What kind of horrible, stupid, person must I be to not "choose" to be happy? That is what I thought and felt while suffering from clinical major depression and people would tell me this. I tried to choose happiness...who wouldn't? It only made me hate myself more.

#19...I think the person creating the drama is you. I've had issues in my life, but you can chose who you hang around with and how you react to people. If your life is constant drama and chaos, then you are choosing that.

@pikakats It was a control issue for her. These are the least of the things that she did to her children. She was allowed "luxuries" when her children weren't allowed things like mattresses, breakfast and lunch, school supplies, privacy, medical care, etc. We were not poor.

@jessethecowgirl yes but that is not why she did that. This was in the 70s and 80s and she didn't care at all about the environment.
