Having a certain level of wealth and privilege often seems to change the way people see the world. Sometimes, they don't consider how their words and actions will come across to people of more average means — even when they have no malicious intentions.
Here are 17 times celebs tried to be well-meaning but came across as super out-of-touch:
1. In 2020, Justin and Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner discussed the coronavirus pandemic in a joint Instagram Live. Justin said, "How blessed are we — a lot of people in this time have a crappy situation. They look at us, and obviously, we've worked hard for where we're at. We can't feel bad for the things we have, but us taking that time to acknowledge that there are people who are struggling is important."
Nodding along, Jenner added, "Yeah, I think about it all the time."
The acknowledgement didn't do much to make the viewers at home feel better about their situations.
2. Likewise, during early lockdowns, Gal Gadot gathered a group of her famous friends — including Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal, James Marsden, Natalie Portman, and many others — to sing a cover of "Imagine" by John Lennon in an Instagram video.
Commenters criticized it for being cringey.
Gadot later admitted she regretted orchestrating the video, telling InStyle, "It wasn't the right timing, and it wasn't the right thing. It was in poor taste."
