    This Week: Meet the Indian YouTube channel that's about to unseat an internet king

    It seemed like no one would ever be able to beat Swedish YouTuber PewDiePie’s status as the most-followed channel, until now — the Indian music and entertainment company T-Series is catching up, and it’s getting HEATED.

    In Why PewDiePie Doesn't Stand A Chance Against T-Series, BuzzFeed India’s social news reporter Andre Borges breaks down how the growth of the T-Series channel can be tied to the rise of inexpensive 4G mobile data in India, as well as general Bollywood hype in the country.

    And, as BuzzFeed’s senior manager of international publishing Gabi D’Addario points out, “It's a cool microcosm of the changing internet landscape there — and also the power of a country with more than 1 billion people.”

    As of this morning, both channels each have more than 73 million subscribers, and PewDiePie is holding onto its lead with by a ~400,000 difference. You can watch the numbers change in real time here!
