26 Kitchen Products So Good They Might Convince You To Open A Restaurant

Welcome to my restaurant. Yes there are only four seats, yes this is my dining room, but I'll be accepting that Michelin star now.

We hope you love the products we recommend! All of them were independently selected by our editors. Just so you know, BuzzFeed may collect a share of sales or other compensation from the links on this page if you decide to shop from them. Oh, and FYI — prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication.

    1. A Krups spice grinder, because having a "signature spice blend" as a home cook is the first and most important step towards building a restaurant empire.

Promising review: "I initially bought this grinder for coffee beans but started using it to grind dried herbal roots for tincturing. This thing is a work horse. These roots are extremely tough and the Krups grinds them down to a powder if I want to take it that far. I do pulse it and take it slow as not to burn the motor out and heat the herb too much. But I'm simply blown away at what this little grinder can do. Also, the blade is set fairly low so that even when I want to grind a small amount of a spice (cumin seed, coriander, whatever), it grinds it beautifully. I'm buying my second one today to have one for coffee and one for herbs. Love this unit!" —Michael

Get it from Amazon for $18.94.

    2. A mandolin that will make you feel like such a pro while slicing you'll be like "Whoa, wait a second, should I abandon my life as an accountant to attend Le Cordon Bleu?", Amazon

The mandolin comes with two julienning blades and a finger guard. PLEASE be careful while using this! I (and my boyfriend's scarred thumb) highly recommend some cut-resistant gloves.

Promising review: "Super sharp! Be sure to use the assist tool so you don't accidentally remove your fingertips when slicing. The blade adjusts to paper thin slices. It makes great finely-shredded cole slaw. It slices with perfectly uniform thickness or thinness and is fantastic for slicing super-thin potatoes for making homemade potato chips. I tried making french fries but that blade cuts them a little too finely, more like shoestring potato sticks. The blade is removable for easy clean up (again, be careful as the blade is really sharp). Fortunately, the operation of this device is intuitively obvious because the instructions are in Japanese." —Blues 'n BBQ

Get it from Amazon for $22.99.

    3. A bottle of Mike's Hot Honey whose sweet and spicy flavor profile has made it a unique crowd favorite. Finding a good restaurant business partner is nearly impossible, but I think you've found a great one in Mike.

Promising review: "This is now a staple for my kitchen. How I cooked without it before, I'll never know. It makes the best vinaigrette ever, quick pan sauces for pork, and gives an unexpected zip to dozens of dishes. Does it come in gallons? Have given it as hostess gifts several times and everyone gets hooked." —Martha Ronemus

Get it from Amazon for $8.06.

    4. An Imarku Pro Chef's Knife, because with the right tool in the right hands, every slice of tomato is a work of art, every diced sweet potato a symphony. Chef's Table, are you writing this down?

I bought this knife for my parents, and they love it!

Promising review: "I have never used a knife that slides through everything with such ease. I went to slice open the plastic packaging for the sausages I was cooking, and I thought I had missed the plastic, it was that smooth. I barely had to apply any pressure when slicing up the sausages. Cutting up the carrots, cauliflower, and apples was amazingly easy as well. I'm going to take good care of this little gem of a knife!" —Paul B. Huter

Get it from Amazon for $29.99.

    5. And a knife sharpener to keep those blades honed and sharp. If your hypothetical restaurant's gonna be open for decades like you hope, you're gonna need to stay sharp for a long time.

Simply run your knife through each sharpening slot 10 times each.

Promising review: "Best money ever spent! As someone who is a cook in a restaurant, we go through knives quite often. This will save us so much money, especially with serrated knives. Great product! I was skeptical about this, especially with serrated knives, but WOW! Works great and makes the dullest knife like brand new." —Matt R.

Get it from Amazon for $14.95.

    6. A meat thermometer so you can absolutely nail the internal temperature of all your meat dishes. How are you supposed to write the next Salt, Fat, Acid, Meat without precision?

Promising review: "I have always been a bit challenged cooking steaks and burgers on the grill. People have told me multiple 'ways' of telling when a steak was 'medium' and when to pull the burgers off. Still, I ended up with underdone burgers and overcooked steaks. This takes the mystery out of it. Using this the first time, I cooked pork steaks to perfection. The next time it told me I had left the burgers on too long drinking that 'last' beer. I highly recommend this. I have bought another as a gift for a friend." —raylap

Get it from Amazon for $10.99+ (available in three colors).

    7. An 11-piece non-stick cookware set that will look ever so professional hanging up on your overhead pot and pan rack. Next investment: some chef whites and a big, tall hat.

    Walmart, Amazon

The set includes a fry pan, griddle pan, two saucepans with glass lids, a deep cooker with a glass lid and helper handle, a Dutch oven with a glass lid, and a recipe booklet.

Get the set from BuzzFeed's Tasty Collection exclusively at Walmart for $89 (originally $99, available in four colors) and the rack from Amazon for $76.48+ (available in four finishes).

    8. A Cuisinart waffle maker, because Waffle House hasn't had any real competition in a decade. It's high time that someone disrupt the waffle industry, and it all starts in your teeny tiny apartment kitchen making breakfast for your Tinder date.

Promising review: "I hear an angel choir when I finally sit down to golden, crisp waffles. I had been craving them for months — not the thick Belgium ones, but the old-fashioned, round, thin crispy ones. This is easy to use and makes delicious waffles. I use the setting between three and four, and they come out perfect." —Kindle Customer

Get it from Amazon for $24.98.

    9. A pre-seasoned cast iron pan that will elevate almost anything you cook in it. At your farm to table eatery, you'll only cook and serve in cast iron. Yes, guests may burn themselves, but it's a small price to pay for a taste of your heavenly collard greens.

This is the cast iron I have, and it just lives on my stovetop because I use it literally everyday. To clean, simply hand wash (I usually opt for no soap, but you do you) and rub with vegetable oil to keep it nice and seasoned.

Promising review: "I adore this skillet. As long as you keep up with oiling and don't use dish soap on it, the non-stick surface holds up like a charm. It is heavy and I need to buy one of those cute things to put on the handle since it gets hot when you use it on the stove top, (as cast iron does), but it is everything I expected from my first cast iron pan. It has seen a few months of pretty consistent use and it is going strong. I love being able to pan sear and then pop things into the oven." —RDlenix

Get it from Amazon for $13.25.

    10. An Instant Pot for whipping up delectable "slow" cooked meals in no time at all but with just as much flavor. It's called fast casual dining, so come on, make it snappy!

The Instant Pot's 6-in-1 functions include: pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, sauté pan, steamer, and warmer. What a multitasker!

Promising review: "I've had this for only two weeks and I swear I haven't touched my stove or pans. So easy to use and so many functions. You can sauté meat, make hardboiled eggs, rice and beans, and steamed vegetables in a matter of minutes. The Instant Pot community is large, and there are always recipes to be shared. So simple to use and clean. I've made anything from perfectly hard boiled eggs whose shells just fall off on their own, to soups, to Mongolian beef, and spaghetti! I am so glad I jumped on the Instant Pot bandwagon and cannot wait to purchase accessories in the future to make cheesecake and other things." —yestfl

    11. A Blueapple freshness extender so when you buy enough groceries for your imaginary restaurant but are inevitably cooking for one, everything won't go to waste.

The Blueapple works by absorbing ethylene gas, which is what causes produce to ripen. Each Blueapple lasts for three months.

Promising review: "It works. Simple as that. I have even ordered more because it works wonders in my vegetable drawer and also in my fruit basket. Before it seemed things would go bad so fast (three to four days). Now I can see veggies last two weeks — some fruits a week longer than expected." —MFC

    13. A 3-in-1 avocado slicer that's the one tool you truly need if you want to make your avocado restaurant dream a reality. Cut, slice, arrange, cut, slice, arrange — just keep going, the people absolutely demand it.

Promising review: "If you even looked through these reviews to decide if you truly needed an avocado slicer, the answer is clear — your avocado obsessions clearly requires this. I will admit, you can do everything this tool does without it. You may lose a minimal amount of avocado by using a knife instead to remove the seed and cut it open, but this product is mainly for conveniences sake. I will say however the convenience is uncanny. Simple to use, it cuts everything just how you want it, and is worth the small investment for the future of my avocado enjoyment. If you inhale avocados at an alarming rate then the convenience is well worth the investment." —Friendly redwood

Promising review: "I love chopped salad, and this little invention is amazing. It is good for one or two, but if you have more to feed, just do the items in a few batches, then mix. For only my hubby and I, it is the right size. I also love big salads for lunch, so I make my own salad in here. I think you could flip over the cutting side and use the underside as a bowl if you wanted to. I have my favorite salad bowl, so I haven't tried that yet. If you're on the edge as to whether to try, just do it. I'm also sending one as a gift." —Blah Blah

Get it from Amazon for $6.99.

    15. A programmable Crock-Pot for cooking everything the best way — slow and low. One flawless roast in this and you'll be planning the opening of your humble 20-top homestyle joint (that just so happens to have a few Michelin stars).

Promising review: "WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME THE MAGIC OF SLOW COOKERS RIGHT WHEN THEY BECAME A THING!? Seriously, this thing is a busy person's savior, or in my case, a lazy person's dream! This one is plenty large enough and incredibly easy to use. Reviews say this one runs a bit hotter than most, but I've followed a handful of recipes and their cook times seem to be accurate. I really love that this model will automatically switch to keep warm after the timer you set expires. That's crucial for me because I work ten hour shifts and most recipes even on low are about eight hours. That keep warm feature makes sure my food isn't burnt, but still warm when I get home." —Peter Q.

    16. An oven thermometer so you can bake with the precision of one dedicated to their craft. The world isn't ready for your viral new creation: Sweet Lasagna Flambé.

The ovens I have used have always seemed to be a bit off, so this was very important to have around the house especially for recipes that need a very specific temperature. My wife bakes a lot and before having an oven thermometer, she often times over-baked or under-baked her recipes. Promising review: "With these rings, dinner every night will be eggs. I have a large skillet that I love using for everything and obviously cracking an egg on a 20-inch skillet would result in the thinnest 20-inch long egg. Now I can make four eggs at the same time, they look like eggs, and they fit perfectly onto a bread/bagel sandwich. It does leak sometimes, but mostly because I rush to lift the ring before the egg is cooked properly on the sides. The trick is to keep the skillet heated properly and have some butter or other lard before adding the eggs. The rings are sturdy and easy to clean. No melting issues or anything. Great product, 10/10." —KS
