19 Real-Life Marvel Friendships That Are Stronger Than Cap And Bucky

If you want to make a lifelong friend, become a pretend superhero.

We love Marvel movies for a million reasons, but it's an extra treat when the banter between two characters onscreen translates to friendship off-camera.

With so much Marvel content at our fingertips, we've gotten to see some absolutely delightful, adorable, and hilarious friendships over the years.

Here are some Marvel stars who are as close in real life as they are in the movies:

    1. Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson got along so well while filming Thor: Ragnarok that they teamed up again for MIB: International. Thankfully, they both seem open to future collaborations.

They even confessed to trying to sneak kisses into all of their MCU scenes.

    2. Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan met when they played supporting characters in the Captain America movies, and their friendship was so delightful that it basically led to their own show.

Whether they're teasing each other or showing their mutual affection and admiration, these two are absolute proof that opposites attract.

    3. Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr.'s real-life friendship reflects the relationship between their two characters. RDJ even cast Tom as one of the voices in his movie Dolittle.

Most recently, Tom confessed to "shamelessly stealing" RDJ's style. Can you blame him?

    4. Scarlett Johansson and Florence Pugh met and played sisters on Black Widow, and they spent the entire press tour singing each other's praises.

Florence was even at the premiere of Marriage Story in 2019, and the two of them could not have been cuter on the red carpet at the 2020 Oscars.

    5. Richard Madden and Gemma Chan knew each other for 10 years before filming Eternals, which they both say helped them play the relationship between their characters Ikarus and Sersi.

Along with their costar Kit Harington, they talked about the full circle moment of filming scenes outside of a pub in Camden where they'd all hung out years ago.

    6. Speaking of Kit Harington, he and Richard have famously been friends for a long time after meeting on a little show called Game of Thrones.

Richard very cutely interrupted Kit's interview on the red carpet during the Eternals premiere FOR A HUG.

    7. Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany play the MCU's most romantic couple, and they have the real-life friendship to go along with it.

Elizabeth has heard Paul tell the story of how he thought he was getting fired from the MCU no less than a million times, and if that's not the mark of true friendship, IDK what is.

    8. Jon Favreau simply could not imagine Iron Man without Robert Downey Jr. and convinced Marvel executives to cast him, and has said that they are "the president of each other's fan club."

RDJ has supported Jon on a few of his more independent, non-MCU projects, and says they're "close enough to be like brothers."

    9. Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans have been friends and colleagues for a very long time — even before their MCU collaboration — so much so that Scarlett herself said she knows Chris "too well."

James said he had only one regret of his time in the franchise, and it was that he and Michael didn't have enough scenes together after X-Men: First Class.

    15. James McAvoy and Jessica Chastain had already worked together before they reunited for Dark Phoenix, in which Jessica played Vuk.

Their fifth movie together was It Chapter 2, and Jessica teased James on Twitter about following her from movie to movie.

    16. After playing Pepper Potts in seven MCU movies, Gwyneth Paltrow said that she found "an incredible, lifelong, inspirational partner and friend" in Robert Downey, Jr.

RDJ even teased Gwyneth about those very specifically-scented candles she was selling, but she teased him right back.

    17. Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston played brothers onscreen, but thankfully their real-life friendship doesn't seem as tumultuous as Thor and Loki's relationship.

It seems like Thor and Loki won't be sharing the screen any time soon, but they're both still alive in the MCU! Hope is not yet lost for a "Hiddlesworth" reunion.

    18. Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Holland had a lot of scenes together in Avengers: Infinity War and Spider-Man: No Way Home, but their great chemistry was most evident when they were paired together for the Infinity War press tour.

The two of them recently sat down to discuss Benedict's film The Power of the Dog, which Tom said was difficult to watch because Benedict played such an evil character.

    19. And finally: Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds costarred in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and their "public feud" has been well-documented.
