23 Things That'll Easily Step Up Your Video Call Look In Less Than Five Minutes

Someone is screen-grabbing a virtual baby shower grid right this minute. Might as well not look like you've been wearing the same sweatshirt for seven days.

We hope you love the products we recommend! All of them were independently selected by our editors. Just so you know, BuzzFeed may collect a share of sales or other compensation from the links on this page if you decide to shop from them. Oh, and FYI — prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication.

    1. A wooden lap desk you can use to find the perfect height for your laptop. No one wants to see more of your chin than your actual face thanks to a low angle.

reviewer pic of them using the lap desk with a laptop, calculator, and bowl on the desk top

I ordered this lap desk once I found out that working from home was going to be a lengthier deal than a month. I swear by this to get me through every working day. My apartment doesn't have the space for a desk (and I don't want to sacrifice a piece of furniture for one) so I set this desk on my coffee table for video calls. I use a 13-inch MacBook Pro for work and there's actually a lot of extra room left on the lap desk. I can even comfortably fit my coffee mug and phone on the surface. Or if it's a really packed day, a plate with lunch! When I'm not on a call, I'll sit on my floor, couch, or bed with this as a work surface. Plus the adjustable legs make it easy to fit whatever position I'm sitting in atm. By now, I think that this desk has been my longest-term relationship. But that's fine. I just humbly ask that you bury me with it.

Get it from Amazon for $36.99.

    2. A waffle-knit top you can wear off the shoulder for a cute lil' video date night lewk. Plus when you wear it out amongst other people, it looks super cute tucked into jeans or shorts.,

Promising review: "As expected. Waffle material, loose fit, fits as expected. Can be worn on or off shoulder. Long to cover bottom when wearing with leggings. Great shirt, I already ordered more colors!" —Amazon Customer

Get it from Amazon for $19.98 (available in sizes S–XXL and nine colors).

    3. A selfie ring light to keep on standby and then turn on to make people think your windowless bedroom is perfectly lit.

A lit selfie ring on a tripod pointing at a reviewer's desk set up

When calling from a laptop, you can set up the tripod or the light on your desk behind the screen.

Promising review: "I’ve been having to work from home. During this time, I’m in front of my computer doing WebEx calls and Teams. Having to present and talk in front of 20–50+ people. This light is AWESOME! My team even asked what I did and then made their purchase right away!" —Anna Chouinard

Get it from Amazon for $39.99.

    4. A gorgeous velvet headband for an easy accent on those days when your hair's a day too dirty but you couldn't resist the appeal of the snooze button. This is the neck-up version of being dressed up.

velvet headbands with knot on top, faux pearls sewn on it

Get it from Amazon for $7.82 (available in 10 colors).

    5. A 20-pack of on-trend hair clips that'll amp up a major case of bedhead or lend a hand for when those bangs you talked yourself into need to grow out.

    various style clips

Get them from Amazon for $11.99.

    6. A cushy lumbar pillow you can position as its name implies so you're sitting up straight for that hour-long video meeting that should've been an email. If you have good posture, you'll actually look engaged!

My mom requested one each for her and my dad for Christmas a few years back after reading my coworker's story about things that'll make you never want to leave your couch. I've tested them out while working from home at their house and it really does make quite the difference for your whole dang workday, not just when you're trying to look presentable in a team meeting!

Get it from Amazon for $23.87.

    7. A faux-sheepskin rug to casually throw over your favorite chair (aka the one that looks like you picked it up off the side of a highway) so if anyone's distracted, it's by how luxe your place works.

white faux fur sheepskin-like rug on a wire chair

Oh, and it'll cozy up uncomfortable dining room chairs or other perches you're forced into using as a meeting seat.

Promising review: "It’s actually better than I expected. It’s very soft and furry. I’m using it as a small throw rug in my bedroom, but would make a great chair cover. I am considering getting a couple more!" —Laura lu

Get it from Amazon for $19.89+ (available in eight colors, four sizes).

    8. A winged eyeliner stamp in case you won't leave the house without a flick (it me) and just got a meeting added to your cal on a makeup-less day. This will perfect it for you in just a minute.,

Promising review: "I am not one to write reviews often, but this product has exceeded my expectations! I normally use liquid liners such as Kat Von D Tattoo, but this has drastically reduced the time it takes for me to create a winged look! I personally prefer a longer wing, but this stamp provides a template to work with and reduces the amount of time to create ‘sister’ wings — they’re pretty much twins now! The eyeliner pen itself it’s a bit broad for me, but the pigment is great!" —Amazon Customer

Get it from Amazon for $11.97 (available in two sizes).

    9. A Dr. Jart Cicapair color-correcting treatment you can smooth on during a makeup-less day if you're like me (literally, that's me in the pic!) and have redness issues with your skin you'd rather not have others see on screen.

    Elizabeth Lilly / BuzzFeed

I put it on half of my face to demonstrate its power. Seriously, the color cancelling prowess is impressive. Also it took me nearly a year to go through the full-size jar. So if the price has you feeling iffy, you can try out a travel version. Seriously, I'm forever indebted to this stuff. Some reviewers even use it as a CC cream. And it has SPF 30!

Promising review: "I have rosacea on both my cheeks and a bit on chin and also have a couple of acne spots on my chin as well and I’ve tried so many foundations to cover up my cheeks and no matter how full coverage my cheeks will still show through. So I decided to try this and I love it!!!! I use this after primer and moisturizer and then use a foundation (because I fake tan and my face is paler than my body) and my skin looks amazing!!! I’m so impressed! I love makeup but I could never really use a lot of face products because I was embarrassed. Definitely recommend if you have rosacea and want to wear full coverage foundation or even as a BB cream." —elyse1518

Get it from Sephora for $18+ (available in two sizes).

    10. A translucent setting powder to swirl on your face and cut out any distracting shine because everyone has a tendency to stare at themselves on video calls. It's very much a thing!, Amazon

Promising review: "Bought three different kinds and patterns of the Goodthreads short sleeve shirts for my tween daughter (collared shirts required for school). She is broader through the shoulders and is picky about the way fabrics feel. Most button ups are too stiff and tight through the sleeves. She was very happy with these shirts. They are roomy without looking sloppy, lightweight without being sheer, and soft feeling. Highly recommend for anyone not super slender." —Mother of Four

Get it from Amazon for $25 (available in sizes XS–XXL and 11 colors/patterns).

    16. A bunch of cool pairs of earrings to distract from that coffee-stained sweatshirt that's *just* out of camera view.

models wearing various gold tone earrings

Promising review: "This is such a great earring set. They’re lightweight. Some feel like you’re not wearing anything. They’re modern and expensive looking but they’re SO cheap." —mj345

    18. A long-lasting eyebrow gel (that's waterproof!) you probably saw on Shark Tank and have been considering ever since. 'Tis time. This'll set those brows for ya because, I'll admit it, I feel like I look different without my brows filled in....

Promising review: "I love this stuff! I’m one of those people who over-plucked in the past and now can’t get the thick eyebrows I once hated back. It does take practice and a little trial and error to get the perfect brow. I usually keep a Q-tip handy and sometimes have to reshape after I apply. It is waterproof and lasts a few days. I am careful in the shower when washing my face to wash around the brows. Photos are me out for a jog without anything on my brows, second is after delivering my baby — yes. After my water broke, I took a shower and applied my Wunderbrow! Lasted through 12 hours of labor and three days in the hospital. =)" —Tiffany Haney

Get it from Amazon for $17+ (available in five colors).

    19. A dry shampoo you can spritz on around your temples so you'll be the only one who knows you lost track of the last time you washed your hair. This one *also* adds some texture so it looks like you actually did something else to your hair today.

    the bottle of dry shampoo
    Mane Club

This 3-in-1 beaut (absorbs oil, texturizes, volumizes) is sitting on my bathroom window sill where I give it a visit when I'm on my fourth-day hair and need some spritzes before a video call just to feel alive. And I have a LOT of hair with a lot of natural volume but even after a few days of not washing it, it can get a bit limp and matted-looking. Take it from me, I've been on a personal mission to try out basically every dry shampoo I can get my paws on and this is one of the best you can get for under $10.

Get it from Mane Club for $8.

Promising review: "I really like this bra! It is one of the first I've had that is truly comfortable, plus has a nice natural shape while still providing plenty of support. I bought it to wear under sheer white T-shirts and you can't see it at all. I might buy it in black, as well." —Izzy

Get it from Amazon for $16.50+ (available in band sizes B–DD, cup sizes B–DD, and in 30 colors).

    21. Or a lightly lined bralette that'll also be undetectable under whatever shirt you're pretending you didn't go to sleep in last night. pink and green scrunchies in a bowl
    Raie Atelier / Etsy

Promising review: "These are the best silk scrunchies I have bought thus far. While they are soft and don’t snag your hair, they also hold my thick hair snug! I love to use these small ones for braids to give an extra pop of color to my style!" —Melissa Clelland
