31 Movies People Thought Were Awesome When They Were Younger, But Completely Cringe At As Adults

Some movies age like a fine wine while others age like milk left in a hot car overnight.

We recently took a look at a viral Reddit thread asking, "What's a movie you loved as a child that you now consider to be cringeworthy?" and their hilarious answers sparked even more great responses from our very own BuzzFeed Community! So with that in mind, here are a few more old faves that have since become embarrassing memories:

"My dad and I watched it all the time when I was a kid and I LOVED it. A few years ago, I was hyping it up for my husband and finally got him to sit down and watch it (so excited!). It had everything: the '80s, Eddie Murphy, what could go wrong? When it ended I sat there like, 'Oh...oh no.' Lost a part of my childhood that day."

"It's cringeworthy for sure now. It's about a teenage Jonathan Brandis dressing like a girl to help his soon to be stepdad get a promotion. How no one noticed they just threw a wig on a teen boy is beyond me."

    6. Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines (1965)

"It’s an old movie I watched all the time at my grandparents’ house. It’s set in 1910 and is about a flying competition sponsored by a wealthy newspaper tycoon. There’s a love triangle between his suffragist daughter and two of the pilots. She ends up with the one who was constantly trying to sabotage the other pilots. At one point, he spiked a drink intended for the Japanese pilot, only to have the German pilot drink it by mistake, so the 'independent/rebellious woman' ended up with a guy who spikes drinks for personal advantage.

Oh, and the Japanese, German and Italian characters are walking stereotypes. And there’s a recurring gag where one pilot meets a woman at each stop who looks like a woman at previous stops. He thinks each woman is the same person, and is so infatuated with this 'woman' that he is persistent with all of them without really listening to any of them pointing out they’re different people!"

"This dates me. Parts of the movie were filmed near my house, so it was cool to see stuff I went by every day, but it's such a racist movie. I turned it on for my daughter once and had to turn it off."

"I thought it was such a suspenseful movie back then. I rewatched it recently when I heard they were remaking it with Anne Hathaway so that I could judge how terrible the remake would be, and...just thinking about those kids turning into mice and the awful mechanical movements of their little mouse mouths is pretty cringey. I'm not sure if the remake is worth watching now."

"I have it on my iTunes account, so my daughter found it on her iPad and watched it. 'It’s PG,' I thought, 'so whatever.' Obviously, it was a different time period, so I’m not bothered by it like some people are — HOWEVER, the lyrics to 'Grease Lightening' don’t truly pop out until there’s a 4-year-old singing it. 💀 "
