13 Movie Trailers From 2018 That Got Us Hype For 2019

2019 is the year of childhood rebirth.

13. What Men Want (Feb. 8, 2019)

Why It's Worth The Hype: I will see ANYTHING with Taraji P. Henson in it. I would watch her read the phone book for 12 hours straight. We should remake every movie with her playing every character. Anyway, this looks high-key hilarious and deserves a spot on this list.

12. Isn't It Romantic (Feb. 14, 2019)

Why It's Worth The Hype: This self-aware Rom-Com promises to deliver as much genre-bending/troupe-breaking as possible, while still being absolutely wonderful. The cast is fantastic and who doesn't need more shirtless Hemsworths in their lives? No one, I rest my case. All the shirtless Hemsworths forever!

11. Aladdin (May 24, 2019)

Why It's Worth The Hype: The first of Disney's MANY films this year to appear on this list, the only reason this one is so far down is because I wanted to see MORE. Still, the soundtrack is goosebump-inducing and seeing the Cave of Wonders IRL made me pee in my pants a little bit. Like, a socially-acceptable amount of pee.

10. Shazam (April 5, 2019)

Why It's Worth The Hype: Look, I'm not going to lie here and pretend like I don't lean more Marvel Comics, but this looks like it could easily be my favorite DC film to date. If you're familiar with the Shazam comics, you know the whole concept is kind of ridiculous and, from this trailer, it looks like they're really leaning into that. Also, like, Zachary Levi is cute AF in that silly costume.

9. Pet Sematary (April 5, 2019)

Why It's Worth The Hype: This movie looks like a WHOLE LOTTA NOPE which, as a horror fanatic, means I will be first in line to see it. I love pets. I love zombies. I love pets who are also kind of zombies. I am here all day for this, I only wish I could take my two cats to the theater with me to watch it, but it's fine. I'll be fine.

8. Toy Story 4 (June 21, 2019)

Why It's Worth The Hype: WHO'S READY TO UGLY CRY??? This looks so freakin' cute and funny and truth be told, I already stan and HARD RELATE to Forky and their existential crisis. In a similar vein to Aladdin, this one is only so far down on the list because it's so short. I want to see MORE!

7. Glass (Jan. 18, 2019)

Why It's Worth The Hype: As a comic book lover, it comes as no surprise that Unbreakable is my favorite M. Night Shyamalan movie, and the fact that we all got a surprise sequel to it in the form of Split was, dare I say, GENIUS. This one already looks WILD, and I'm so beyond here to see what both David Dunn (Bruce Willis) and Elijah Prince (Samuel L. Jackson) have been up to since the events of the first movie.

6. Men in Black: International (July 14, 2019)

Why It's Worth The Hype: Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth in fitted suits is enough of a reason to earn this trailer on any spot in any list, but that fact that this looks incredibly fun certainly helps. Also, bringing back Fergie's 2006 bop "London Bridge" in the trailer was an unexpected (yet needed) reminder because that song still slaps, TBH.

5. Avengers: Endgame (April 26, 2019)

Why It's Worth The Hype: I mean, do I even need to explain why anyone would be hype for this? It's only been LITERALLY 10 years leading up to this finale. The only reason it's not higher on the list is because Captain America's beard is gone and, frankly, I'll never forgive Marvel Studios for taking that away from me.

4. Dumbo (March 29, 2019)

Why It's Worth The Hype: I'm STILL crying over this trailer. Baby Dumbo is the cutest thing I've ever seen in my ENTIRE life, and I'll never be over the sight of my sweet elephant baby in clown make-up. I will protect him from this cruel world with my love. I cannot wait to see him fly and flex on his haters. I fully stan Dumbo.

3. Captain Marvel (March 8, 2019)

Why It's Worth The Hype: After Thanos' snap decimated half of the living population in Avengers: Infinity War, the film ended with a small glimmer of hope in the form of Captain Marvel's existence. Now we're going to see her in full action and, based on the trailer, it looks like the only thing that'll be snapping in the next film is Thanos' neck in half. Baby girl come and SAVE THE WORLD.

2. Detective Pikachu (May 10, 2019)

Warner Bros. Pictures / Via youtube.com

Why It's Worth The Hype: This is the "live-action" Pokémon movie we all never knew we needed. I will fully admit, this film wasn't even on my radar until this trailer. Pikachu is the fluffiest thing I've ever seen in my life and I'd literally die for him. Also, Ryan Reynolds voice makes me question my attraction to what is, essentially, a fluffy electric mouse. That's all.

1. The Lion King (July 19, 2019)

Why It's Perfect: Okay...so I'm very biased. I actually cried real tears when this trailer dropped on Thanksgiving. My fiancé came running into our bedroom where I was watching it because he thought something was wrong/I was hurt, and then proceeded to be mad at me for a full hour for scaring him. I'm so excited for this movie. This trailer wins.
