I’ll never forget the day Jerry died. I was 5 years old, and my mom woke me up and told me to come downstairs because “One of your dad’s friends died.” Both of my parents were quite upset. Later that day the three of us went to a vigil in Grant Park at Buckingham Fountain. I don’t remember much about the gathering itself, expect that there were lots of flowers and beer bottles, and the fountain lights were gorgeous—they were multi-colored, as if they were tie-dyed.  I love my parents.
