    Inspired by Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, the series tells the origin story of Mildred Ratched. Ratched starts in 1947 with Mildred arriving in California and beginning to work at a psychiatric hospital where new and unsettling experiments have begun. While she looks like a dedicated and perfect nurse on the outside, we'll soon learn that there is more to Mildred than meets the eye. The series was executive produced by Ryan Murphy, Ian Brennan, and Sarah Paulson.

    2. The Mandalorian

    Baby Yoda, Mando, Cara Dune, and Greef Karga are ready for their next adventure, and we're pretty sure it's going to be huge. Season 2 will pick up where Season 1 left off, with our favorite crew narrowly escaping the hands of the evil Moff Gideon. Basically, the rest of 2020 has been saved by Baby Yoda.

    When it returns: Oct. 30 on Disney+.

    3. The Haunting of Bly Manor

    Based on The Turn of the Screw by Henry James, The Haunting of Bly Manor is set in 1980s England and follows Henry Wingrave, who ends up hiring a young American nanny to care for his orphaned niece and nephew, who reside at Bly Manor. While this season won't have any connection to The Haunting of Hill House, apparently there will be Easter eggs fans should look out for.

    4. The Boys

    The Boys is officially back with Season 2. Picking up where Season 1 left off, the new season begins with Homelander trying to increase his control at Vought, while Hughie, Mother's Milk, Frenchie, and Kimiko are in hiding and Butcher is nowhere to be found. Aya Cash, Goran Visnjic, and more join the cast for a wild new season.

    5. Lovecraft Country

    Created by Misha Green and adapted from Matt Ruff's novel, Lovecraft Country follows Atticus, his Uncle George, and his friend Leti as they road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America while searching for Atticus's missing dad. Also, each episode focuses on a different horror story, which makes the show even more thrilling week after week. While the series premiered in August, this is one show you will want to keep up on until the finale.

    Starring: Jurnee Smollett, Jonathan Majors, Michael Kenneth Williams, Aunjanue Ellis, Wunmi Mosaku, Courtney B. Vance, Abbey Lee, and Jamie Chung.

    6. The Crown

    The critically acclaimed series returns this fall with Olivia Colman's second season as Queen Elizabeth II. The Crown Season 4 will touch upon some of the most iconic moments and people in Queen Elizabeth II's reign, including Margaret Thatcher and Princess Diana. Alongside Olivia Colman, Helena Bonham Carter, and Tobias Menzies, Gillian Anderson and Emma Corrin join this already remarkable cast.

    7. Supernatural

    After its final season was interrupted due to the coronavirus pandemic, Supernatural officially returns for its final seven episodes this fall. This means that the SERIES finale will air in November and will include a retrospective called Supernatural: The Long Road Home that will detail the show's incredible and historic run. TBH, we're still not emotionally prepared to say goodbye to the Winchesters.

    8. This Is Us

    After a monumental Season 4 finale, This Is Us finally returns with Season 5 this fall. The new season picks up after Randall and Kevin's explosive fight, Kate and Toby deciding to have another baby, Rebecca deciding to partake in a clinical trial, and Madison telling Kevin she's pregnant. Also, in the future, we learned more about Jack Jr.'s life. Similar to other shows this season, This Is Us will tackle the coronavirus pandemic too.

    When it returns: Nov. 10 at 9 p.m. ET/8 CT on NBC.

    9. We Are Who We Are

    We Are Who We Are follows two American teens who live on a US military base in Italy. The show explores friendship, love, and identity as it emphasizes what it's like to be a teenager and how these stories are universal to everyone. We Are Who We Are is directed by Luca Guadagnino, who earned an Academy Award nomination for directing Call Me By Your Name.

    Starring: Chloë Sevigny, Jack Dylan Grazer, Alice Braga, Jordan Kristine Seamón, Spence Moore II, Scott Mescudi, Faith Alabi, Francesca Scorsese, Ben Taylor, Corey Knight, Tom Mercier, and Sebastiano Pigazzi.

    10. Away

    Away follows Emma Green, a US astronaut who prepares to lead an international crew on the first mission to Mars. As their mission in space intensifies, dynamics are tested and pushed to the breaking point as the crew not only deals with the mission, but also being away from their loved ones. The series was executive produced by Jason Katims, who was behind Friday Night Lights and Parenthood.

    Starring: Hilary Swank, Josh Charles, and Talitha Bateman.

    11. Julie and the Phantoms

    Julie and the Phantoms follows Julie, who lost her passion for music after her mother's death. Just when she's struggling to find her voice again, the ghosts of Sunset Curve — a '90s band whose members mysteriously died before their big break — show up in her mom's old music studio and help get Julie out of her funk. As their friendship grows, they start the band Julie and the Phantoms.

    12. Black-ish

    This hit comedy finally returns this fall with Season 7. However, before the new season starts, Black-ish will air an election-themed special on Oct. 4 that is partially animated. The two-part episode will also be directed by Matthew A. Cherry, who won an Academy Award this year for his short Hair Love.

    13. Pen15

    Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle return in this hilarious and underrated series that we just wish more people would talk about. The equally terrific second season continues to show Maya and Anna as they navigate through their teen years while trying not to embarrass themselves too much.

    14. Fargo

    After being delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, Fargo Season 4 is finally coming. The new season is set in 1950s Kansas City and follows two criminal groups who are trying to control the economy and fight to preserve the American dream. Fargo Season 4 features Jason Schwartzman, Chris Rock, E’myri Crutchfield, Jack Huston, Ben Whishaw, Glynn Turman, and Jessie Buckley.

    15. One Day at a Time

    After Season 4 was interrupted by the coronavirus pandemic, One Day at a Time returns, but this time it makes its network TV debut on CBS. The Alvarez family continues to talk about not only their own family dynamics, but the world around them in a refreshing and funny way.

    16. Criminal UK

    This critically acclaimed anthology series returns with Season 2 and features four new cases and new suspects. Similar to Season 1, this new season tells some incredible stories and, once again, revamps the typical police procedural.

    This hilarious new comedy follows a "powerful and problematic" single mom living in London, who is struggling to balance being a mom to a tween, her current boyfriend, and her ex. The series was created by and stars comedian Katherine Ryan.

    18. Woke

    Inspired by the life and work of artist Keith Knight, the series follows Keef, a cartoonist who is finally on the verge of success when an unexpected incident changes everything. Now, with a new outlook on life, Keef navigates the new ideas that challenge him, while also trying not to ruin everything he's already worked for.

    19. The Undoing

She has no idea what happened and now must piece together the events and figure out what went wrong. The Flight Attendant is based on the book of the same name and is executive produced by Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter.

Split into three parts, the series first follows Sam, a man who is drawn to the island where he encounters a group of islanders who want to preserve their traditions. Then, the show follows live events in London after the events in the first part. And finally, the third part follows Helen, an outsider who goes to the island seeking answers.
