A model sitting next to a round white light therapy lamp propped on a desk

Promising review: "This light has helped me feel like an actual human again and I could almost cry, honestly. I've only used it a handful of times, but I've already noticed a significant boost in my mood and energy. I enjoy doing chores again, I don't lay in bed when I am off work and cry, I get as excited as my dog when I ask if she wants to go for walks. My friends have noticed an uptick in my mood too, as have my co-workers and family. I've found that I have energy to take up my old hobbies such as writing and drawing again, too." —Hailey

2. A reliable wireless charging pad so convenient it will feel like they're living in a Smart House. Truly all they have to do is lay their phone or AirPods down on it, and boom, instant charging.

A model placing a phone down on a wireless black charging pad

This little power bank can charge *deep breath*: the iPhone SE, 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, Xs Max, XR, XS, X, 8, and 8 Plus; AirPods; and the Galaxy S20, S10, S9, S8, and Galaxy Note 10, 9, and 8.

Promising review: "I gave up on wireless charging years ago. Not reliable and super slow. This one seems to charge my mophie battery case faster than being plugged directly into the charger. How does that work? As long as you know where to place your phone it seems to charge fine. And the blue light is nice to show its charging. But for the price you can't go wrong. You could easily make something to hold this and your phone if you really wanted to. Long as you place it in the middle though it really is fine." —DJK

Get it from Amazon for $12.99.

3. A PhoneSoap that'll make them feel like they're truly living in the ~future~. All they have to do is put a small object in it — whether it's a phone, keys, eyeglasses, and even their face mask — and this compact gadget kills up to 99.99% of bacteria on it with UV light.

Promising review: "What a perfect gadget for getting your phone clean. After touching who knows what while commuting to work, and it being that time of year everyone around you gets sick, this comes in handy. After the first use it looked great, and then I wiped it down with the sponge that came with it. I feel so much better about using my phone now." —Crystal Gardner

This also comes in other pretty colors, but I am especially partial to this one because I bought it for my parents (their kitchen is entirely pink and one of my favorite places on Earth), and this was SO EASY to use — not to mention super safe! I'm a big weenie about fire (LOL, self-preservation) so I've always stuck to extended arm gas lighters, but this is much better for the environment (plus cuter), so I feel a lot better about using it.

Promising review: "Wow. This thing is amazing. Small and so easy to use. My husband kept saying it won’t actually light anything and was blown away when it did. We lit candles and paper to use as tinder with absolutely no effort. No fuel needed. Just a quick recharging. And no waste in throwing away those huge and never easy to use butane sticks. Love love it. Easy buying process so I would recommend everyone buy one." —Diane Bold

I believe this is the best way to keep things happily clean and, coupled with my Squatty Potty, I think 2019 is going to be the year of the happy BM!" —Natalie D.

Black air purifer with several speed and light settings

Promising review: "I have no idea how to quantify how well this works, but I haven't needed my inhaler since we got it. Our neighbors (older apartment building) are heavy smokers and my wife and I were both bothered by it. It feels better now. We've been leaving this running whenever we're home. The touch sensor works well to turn it on and off. It does make some noise, but it's just kind of a low ambient fan sound that's easy to ignore. As an unexpected bonus it's really really good at filtering pet smells- I have two stinky male rats in the middle of rat puberty, their bedding gets changed every other day, and when they were due for a cleaning you used to be able to smell it across the room. You can't anymore unless you're right next to the cage. I honestly didn't have high hopes for this but it's worth it for that alone." —Chris

8. A 42-page Rocketbook Fusion reusable notebook so simple to use that it'll replace all other notebooks in their life — once they write with the Rocketbook pen, they can scan the page with an app and upload it to any other device, then wash out the ink and reuse it again. A model writing in the planner page of a Rocket notebook

This notebook includes lined and grid pages in addition to planner, calendar, and brainstorming pages, so it pretty much covers any of their needs.

Promising review: "I love my Rocketbook! I'm a college student who readily takes 8-12 pages of notes in each of my six classes, and this book is just what I needed to stop carrying around several 2-inch binders loaded with paper! The book is sturdy and stands up well to being crammed in a backpack with textbooks and lab gear, with a hard cover and sturdy spiral design. The app allows you to pick the destinations for your scans when uploading your notes or figures. But it also lets you search by key terms to find notes about specific topics! The clearer your handwriting is, the better, but I don't have the most neat writing myself and I have no issue using the search function. The Frixion pens are also wonderful to write with – just make sure you give them the 10-15 seconds to dry before flipping the page to avoid smudges. And if you do smudge it's okay, because you can quickly erase and rewrite any mistakes. Wiping the pages clean after I'm done uploading is also very easy, and gives me a chance for one last review of my notes. Just use the included towel and a little water and it looks brand new! And now for the best part – environmental consciousness! This book has already saved me from going through REAMS of paper in the month that I've been using it. I also didn't have to buy the binders and dividers that go along with my old organizational style. Every little act of sustainability helps, and the Rocketbook's reusability makes it a much more impactful buy. Get this notebook!" –Amazon Customer

The tube-shaped metal wine opener next to a bottle of wine it just uncorked

Promising review: "I bought this for my mother, who has limited mobility and has been isolated due to the quarantine. Now I’m ordering one for myself as well!" —Stormy Dee

10. A splurge-worthy pair of AirPods Pro with a wireless charging case to give them the gift of hands-free, noise-proof bliss, without any of the complicated setup. Their iPhone will automatically detect the new AirPod Pro earbuds, and work the user through setup to get the perfect fit and sound right on the spot.

I have a pair of these, and they're not playing around. Once they're securely in your ear, you can toggle the headphones between noise-cancelling and regular sound, depending on your situation. I've been working from home, and the noise-cancelling is so effective that I can work next to a window where my neighbor is doing heavy construction and I don't hear anything louder than a faint buzzing. It's quieter than if I'd just plugged my ears with my own fingers. I'm also a runner, and these don't budge when you're sweating, which is nice. It's also handy that these toggle out of noise cancellation mode, because I feel better being able to hear traffic and other people around me when I'm out and about. The TL;DR is I love these so much I have zero interest in owning another pair of headphones for as long as I live.

Promising review: "Debated on spending the money for these. Finally just buckled down and got these and LOVE THEM. I love how I can open the case next to my iPhone and a picture pops up telling me about battery life. They were already hooked up to my phone — I didn't have to do anything (major plus for a non-techie like me). I've had zero issues with them cutting out. I typically use them when I'm mowing the lawn and listen to podcasts. When I have the noise cancellation on, I CAN'T HEAR THE MOWER. They're comfy, easy to put in, and I loooooooove not having the wire tethering me to the phone in my pocket when I'm trying to mow. No more getting tangled up when I grab the handle. Never cuts out. Sound is GREAT. (Chucked my Bose for these. Don't even miss them.)" —Traveler

Promising review: "Google just does not seem as focused on these products as Amazon. The product is easy to install and worked pretty seamlessly. The Dolby Atmos Audio makes my 7.1 hardwired system sound so much better than before. Plus it's so great to be able to set up a TV anywhere without wires. I am pretty deep into the Alexa ecosystem with with smart lighting, switches and alarm and the Voice Remote while basic is better than nothing. Samsung television hung up on a wall to look like artwork

Promising review: "The television is wonderful. It is exactly what we wanted. It is in a room where it is the focal point of the room and we really wanted the ART MODE. We have now had time to explore the ART STORE and it is wonderful! Easy to use and we found so many artworks that we love to display. The television itself is very high quality picture and good sound. We used our own mounting bracket so I can't comment on the bracket that comes with the television. We used our own because we wanted one that was recessed into the wall (so the television is flush) but pulls out to swivel and pivot. I especially like the ART MODE." —Skip

Plus, if the power happens to go out, it will continue to operate on batteries until they get home!

Promising review: "I recently got a new puppy, and three times a day I would scoop her some food and pour it in her bowl, but this dispenser takes that off my hands! I don't need to worry about coming home in time to feed my dog, making correct portions, or forgetting to feed my dog altogether. This machine allows you to feed your pet without the usual hassle. To set it up, you just need to select either breakfast, lunch, or dinner; input the time (the time is only 24-hour mode, which isn't much of a big deal); and input the portions (since it's in grams, I will help those of you who have portions in cups: 10 grams is usually around 1/8 cup of dog food; in my video I put 40 grams). I charge the hand warmer every night with a standard USB charger and the next day, I have hours of warmth. The three temperature settings are very helpful — I use the highest setting when I'm outdoors for long periods of time and the lower settings when I'm indoors (e.g. sitting at my desk or in a cold movie theater). I've already given hand warmers as gifts to several cold-handed friends and family members and they're loving it as well. I hope Ocoopa comes out with a foot warmer next!" —Riva Kupritz

It has a LOT of different alarm sounds to choose from (and even had radio options) and the light from this thing is bright enough to light up your entire room! So much more powerful than previous 'wake up lights' I’ve purchased. I also like the different choices of sounds (I personally like the wind chimes one because it’s not too startling) and you can even dim (or turn off) the clock settings to your liking. This product gradually increases in light and sound intensity as it approaches the alarm set time, which allows for a more gradual morning wake up. I especially like being able to 'snooze' it or turn off the alarm from my phone without having to get up physically. All around, a great product at an even better price!" —alw214

A cup of coffee warmed by a black circular mug warming platform underneath it

Promising review: "I am currently working from home and I make tea at every hour of every day. I used to own a Mr. Coffee and had lost it during transition of moving so I HAD to get another one. I’m so glad that I did because now my tea stays warm throughout work. There is no adjustment to high and low but I prefer things simple. You just switch it on and it stays on. The plate gets pretty hot which makes my cup hot at the bottom. No issue for me because I don’t have children. I prefer warm tea over piping hot or freezing cold. This little device is my best friend and it’s great. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves a 'just right' cup of anything." —Cecy R.

Plus — be still my robot-loving heart — it uses Dirt Detect Sensors to figure out which areas of their home are more highly-trafficked, and clean them more thoroughly.

Promising review: "I didn't have super high expectations, because we do not have a Roomba friendly house. We have lots of small carpets with tassels, things out on the floors (like music and workout equipment for our jobs), and small awkwardly shapes (ie not square) spaces. I'm honestly blown away. I've used it twice and it navigates over/around objects so accurately, gets under furniture, does not pull weaving out of my cotton and jute woven rugs, and has only gotten caught on a tassel or cord once. My cat caught a bird and it got up all the feathers. Amazing! It does miss things here and there, so it's not going to replace 100% of regular vacuuming, but it's going to cut down our in-person vacuums by A LOT. it is kind of loud, though. About as loud as the AC unit for reference, so I can't use it if I'm on a zoom call. All told though, wow." —MH

Promising review: "Very happy with this smart watch/fitness tracker. If you are looking for a fitness tracker that has incredible battery life, a fantastic app, and sleep tracking there is no better product on the market. I think it is nice that it also includes some of the essential smart watch features like messages on your wrist and connectivity to control Spotify. The Alexa integration is also a nice bonus feature. However, if you are more interested in a smart watch features and care less about fitness tracking then maybe the Apple Watch is a better choice for you. I actually have an Apple Watch and prefer to wear the Fitbit because I think Fitbit really nailed the features that are important to me - fitness, battery life, sleep tracking, messages on wrist. Everything else I can handle on my phone but it is nice that the features I care about are done so well on this watch. Also, it is really comfortable to wear. I never take it off. One other feature that I think is important is the always on heart rate monitor. The Apple Watch only measures your heart rate every 10 min when you are not in a workout. I like having the always on tracking during the day so I can quick glance at what my heart rate is doing. As far as I know, you can not do this with the Apple Watch; you would need to open up the heart rate app on the watch to get a read. Just another reason why I think this Fitbit is better for my lifestyle. It does the stuff I care about well rather than doing everything mediocre like the Apple Watch. Just my opinion..." —FullSpeedWD

30. A glare-free Kindle Paperwhite with a user-friendly touch screen that not only can hold thousands of books, but will let them read the *chef's kiss* way they like best — they can customize it with all their favorite fonts and layouts, and organize their virtual shelves to their precise standards. Bonus — its charge lasts weeks (plural!!), and it's waterproof, so they can take this bb in the bathtub 🍷.

Promising review: "I was very slow to the e-reader game; I am a voracious reader and thought I would not want to read from a screen, since I do that all day at my job. I purchased one after four weeks of 'stay home stay safe,' and had read everything in the house multiple times. The library has been closed for six weeks. I LOVE THIS THING. With a few customizations of layout and font, I may as well be reading from a book. With the Kindle Unlimited, I can choose from soooooo many books. I’ve had this thing for three days and I’ve read five books. Can’t believe I didn’t get one years ago." —Jess Mo

31. A cordless automatic rotating laser they can put anywhere in the house to amuse their cat with randomized laser rotations. It even comes with an automatic timer to end the session after 30 minutes, so they don't have to worry about wearing Whiskers out.

Promising review: "I recommend this laser toy for any family who has a cat in their house. Compared to a laser pen, it's much easier to use and frees your hands to do other house work. My cat is having a lot of fun of chasing the laser point — I can watch him play while I'm laying on my couch. It takes your cat's extra energy away, so they're not scratching your other stuff. The battery seems to be lasting longer than I expected. I have had this for two weeks and use it 30–40 minutes every day and haven't had to change the battery yet. Highly recommend this toy for all my friends with a cat." —Fiona Yan

Up to five household members can use it, and it will tailor itself to meet their individual goals and give them feedback in ~real time~. It's also just ......... super pretty? When it's not in workout mode, it just looks like very beautiful home decor.

Similar to other Alexa-enabled devices, the Echo Show 5 responds to voice commands and can be synced with Audible, Amazon Music, Amazon Video, and other apps and programs like Spotify, iTunes, and NPR.

Promising review: "I love this device!!!! I had been eyeing the Echo Spot for a while for its price point and ability to video call and then this Echo Show 5 compact was released: I liked the square screen a lot more than the round one on the spot. The larger Echo Show that I also wanted was just not in my price range — I had to be able to afford to purchase multiple devices for me and my kids so we all have a way to see each other and talk regularly with grandchildren since everyone lives in other states. I actually love the smaller size- it fits better in compact areas like my bedside and on my computer desk. I don’t regret this purchase at all! I love how easily I can connect with family. Everyone loves them! Bonus I can control my smart home devices from this all hands free: lights, appliances, gadgets, and Alexa devices. Best purchase this year!" —Cindylu

Promising review: "This projector has been an amazing addition to our quarantine life at home. Who needs the movies when you have this. The volume is actually really good and the Wi-Fi is helpful. We hook up our Direct TV, Fire Stick, etc, and it all works great with great picture! We’ve been having a blast moving the movies home." —Amazon Customer

A smart bulb synced with Alexa

Promising review: "I was hoping that when I bought this smart bulb that the colors would be bright and they are and I love it. It works seamlessly with my Google Home Mini and I can also tell it what color I'd like it. I am a big fan of Smart bulbs since getting my first C by GE as a Christmas gift. I currently now have ten C by GE bulbs in my home and this is the first color one." —Kis'
