Grew up in a super white suburb and went to a super white private all girls school. I didn’t have my first black friend until well into college. I actually asked her one time if I could see her vagina because I wanted to know what it looked like on the inside (was it black or pink or something else?). She quickly informed me that this was not OK, but she DID give me the information I so desperately needed.

If “tipping” is now 100% expected for every dining experience involving a waiter , why don’t we just increase the cost of the meal, give the servers the extra $, and do away with the whole “tipping” process anyway? If social norms will “require” me to tip (which I always do, TYVM) then why does it need to be a special thing that just ends up getting people in hot water? If I choose to leave more for exceptional service (what a TIP actually should be) then I could if I chose to. Its always seemed so silly to me.

Was it just me, or did this article have bipolar disorder?

I see these girls doing great things one day. At the very least, I am confident that they will stay mostly out of trouble and out of any scandals that have involved previous “first children”. They seem very level headed, well adjusted in spite of their very public family life, and I wish the best for them.
