I truly feel for young women if they buy into the Jennifer Lawrence shtick because it can be so confusing. Just like people prefer their news in list form, 22 really cool things about - whatever parlance, people like to have their celebrities in manageable understandable forms. I agree with the author here that the women mentioned in this article are the “cool girls” and that they are products (and image), nothing more. Once a woman starts causing controversy by opening her mouth and taking a stand the way Jane Fonda did, though you may not agree with her, you have to applaud her courage in doing so. Anyone who takes a stand and has something to lose is a person worth listening to. Do I see Jennifer Lawrence ever doing that? She could surprise us when she gets sick of all the money, the fame and being constantly digested by the public. But currently she may play a revolutionary in The Hunger Games but she is not one in real life. Don’t weep for her though. Just find better idols. People who DO SOMETHING other than “act”. And if you can’t find anyone like that - then BECOME it yourself.
