18 Reasons Why No Country Should Ever Accept Refugees

What a terrible idea.

Posted on

As countries around the world are debating whether or not to open their borders to refugees, this is the perfect time to remind everyone about the real reasons why countries should keep refugees out.

Everyone knows refugees are responsible for nothing of value in the world, right?

2. You know Steve Jobs? The guy who helped invent the thing you're using to read this? You like Apple? Welp, his dad was a Syrian refugee.

Steve Jobs's biological father was a Syrian refugee. He also helped invent the exact device you're using to argue about the refugee crisis on.

4. And birth control? Completely unnecessary.

Carl Djerassi is credited with inventing the "key ingredient" for the birth control pill. He fled Austria for the U.S. at the age of 16 after World War II.

5. And doughnuts? Literally cannot express how useless and pointless I think doughnuts are. What a waste of ingredients.

Adolph Levitt, a refugee from Russia, invented a machine that could produce doughnuts much faster than was previously possible.

7. And One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest? Hated that movie. Wish it had never been made.

Milos Forman directed the film years after he fled Czechoslovakia after the Prague Spring of 1968.

9. The Fugees? Hate 'em. Hate rhythm. Wish they never happened.

Columbia Records

Wyclef Jean was a Haitian refugee. He started the Fugees when he was 19. The name is literally short for "refugees."

10. And M.I.A.? What's the point?

M.I.A. left Sri Lanka at age 9 because she was part of an ethnic minority under persecution.

11. You like the internet? No. Me neither. Without refugees we probably wouldn't have it, because a Nigerian refugee came up with a formula that allowed multiple computers to communicate together.

According to Time, Philip Emeagwali "came up with the formula for allowing a large number of computers to communicate at once." His parents were both Nigerian war refugees.

13. And then there's Grease. Hate musicals. Hate joy.

Paramount Pictures

Olivia Newton John's grandfather, Max Born, fled Germany after Albert Einstein told him to leave immediately. Even more impressive than Grease, Max Born was a winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1954.

14. Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine? Stay away, please.

17. The Mini? Gotta be honest with you — too small. Waste of metal.

The guy who invented the Mini, Sir Alec Issigonis, immigrated to the U.K. during the war between Greece and Turkey in 1922.

18. And Nobel Prizes? NOBEL PRIZES? What a waste of time! Only the WORST people win those, right?

Literature? Economics? Physics? Who needs 'em! Throughout the years there have been several former refugees who have won Nobel Prizes in these fields and more. And don't even get me started on the refugees who won that pointless "Peace" prize.
