Calling all fans of Disney and 101 Dalmatians! With news that we're officially getting a live-action Cruella, I couldn't be any more excited to see how this villain-inspired story will unfold onscreen.
The first full-length trailer debuted last week and has had fans talking ever since:
While we'll have to wait until May to see Cruella ourselves, the preview gave us an exciting sneak peek at what's to come — whether it's on Disney+ or in a full theatrical release.
As we start counting down to the May premiere, we've rounded up everything we know about Cruella so far. Take a look below:
1.To start, Emma Stone will be taking on the iconic role of Cruella de Vil. She was most recently seen in Zombieland: Double Tap, Maniac, and The Favourite.
2.Disney fans got their first glimpse of Cruella back in 2019 during the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California.
3.Cruella is going to be a prequel film in the 101 Dalmatians franchise.
4.Stone's fresh take will follow Glenn Close's portrayal of the classic character. She played Cruella back in 1996's 101 Dalmatians and the 2000 sequel, 102 Dalmatians.
5.The story will focus on Cruella's origin story. If it's at all similar to Maleficent, viewers will get a true understanding of what transformed her into the Disney villain we know today.
6.The timeline will have "punk rock" vibes and will be set in 1970s London, as previously revealed by Stone.
7.These BTS set photos confirm that Stone will be rocking her famous crimson locks for part of the film.
9.Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya) is directing the film.
10.The screenplay is penned by How to Be Single writer Dana Fox and The Great writer Tony McNamara.
11.And yes, McNamara and Stone previously worked together on 2018's The Favourite.
12.The story is inspired by Dodie Smith's 1956 novel, The Hundred and One Dalmatians.
13.Emma Thompson, best known for her roles in Sense and Sensibility, Saving Mr. Banks, and Love Actually, is portraying Cruella's archnemesis, the Baroness von Hellman.
14.1917's Mark Strong and Cobra Kai's Paul Walter Hauser will be the faces of Cruella's henchmen, Boris and Horace, as seen below:
15.Hail Caesar's Emily Beecham is playing Anita, who is one of Cruella's past friends who later goes on to own Dalmatians of her own.
16.Finally, Close is on board as an executive producer.
