Creating a successful Twitter meme is honestly an art.
The truly good ones get everyone to join in, from your fave Twitter comedians, to basically every brand, to your high school teacher who you still inexplicably follow on Twitter nearly a decade later (just me?).
I searched through my likes, scrolled through every single meme I've ever DMed my friends in between tears of laughter, and probably spent way too much time reminiscing in order to round up some of the meme formats from 2021 that are sure to make the Twitter Hall of Fame.

I'm begging the Internet to never let this meme concept fade away. They're honestly all pure gold, but my favorites are the ones that Yassify (aka filter the heck out of iconic images) already existing memes.
5. Red flags:

We stan an informative meme and I guarantee you that there are a few people out there who have been clued into a toxic behavior or a questionable personality trait from this trend.
6. Anakin and Padmé:
This one hit a little too close to home.
This clip from Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones featuring Anakin and Padmé having a romantic picnic became a Twitter legend over the summer.
7. Bernie Sanders at Biden's inauguration:

While this meme feels like it's from approximately 3000 years ago, it is in fact from January 2021, so please excuse me while I consider the fact that time is truly meaningless.

8. Same person, different fonts:
I can’t explain it but all three of these actresses give me a similar vibe. They’re like the same person in different fonts.

Honestly, everything about Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox's relationship feels meme-worthy to me (I mean, they literally chained themselves together by their nails), but their infamous "I am weed" exchange truly blessed our timelines.

The stock market BF/astrology GF concept originated during the GameStop short stock scandal and makes fun of the fact that the stock market is just as hard for women to understand as astrology is for men. And you know what, I can't help but agree.
19. "If you've ever done this, don't worry about what's in the vaccine.":

if you've worn a festival wristband months after it's ended then you don't need to worry about what's in the covid vaccine
While this originated in December 2020, these "don't worry about the vaccine" tweets lived on long into 2021.
