As a kindergarten teacher who teaches handwriting, we use the 7 method. You read and write left to right, top to bottom. As long as the spacing and shape is correct, I usually don’t make too big a deal of it.
I have two favorites: a stool all my students signed and I use as my "teacher's chair" everyday, and a ceramic coffee mug a student decorated for me. Thoughtful, homemade gifts are my favorite, especially from kindergarteners.
