HBO Max's Kids' Shows Are Worth The $14.99 A Month For All Tired Parents

It's not only something new to watch but something the whole family will actually enjoy.

Attention tired parents! Sorry, didn't mean to shout but you need to be wide awake to hear this. HBO Max is packed with kids' content, specifically brand-new series and movies you haven't watched ad infinitum.

What's HBO Max? It's a new stand-alone streaming service launching on May 27 for $14.99 per month, that includes everything from HBO as well as brand new Max Originals and a slew of series and movies from WarnerMedia. More on that later, you're here for all the cool kids' stuff.

So let's get right to all that new kids programming on HBO Max. We'll start with something both the kids and the rents can enjoy, a talk show. Wait, what?

Yes, Sesame Street has created The Not-Too-Late Show With Elmo. The titular host will welcome celebrity guests like John Mulaney, Jason Sudeikis, and Blake Lively, New York Times best-selling author Kwame Alexander, and other hosts Jimmy Fallon and John Oliver. Like any classic talk show there will be musical guests as well, like Lil Nas X and The Jonas Brothers. And if you needed any more incentive to watch, in a truly inspired piece of casting, Cookie Monster is the co-host. Hey now!

Suffering succotash! There are new Looney Tunes cartoons?

Bugs, Daffy, Porky, Taz, Sylvester, Tweety, and all the rest are back in some beautifully animated, gag-driven shorts. The original Looney Tunes might have been a hard sell on the kids (while the animation is still brilliant, the stories and themes might feel a bit outdated, looking at you Pepé Le Pew). But these new toons (tunes?) have been updated for a more modern audience. That's what's up, doc.

"C'mon, grab your friends! We'll go to very distant lands," in this very aptly named continuation/extension of the Adventure Time series.

While not a series, Adventure Time: Distant Lands presents four new tales/episodes that will go beyond the normal confines of the Land of Ooo with all your favorite characters like Finn, Jake, Princess Bubblegum, Marceline, and Peppermint Butler. The first installment features BMO (Parents, if you don't know, imagine if your Game Boy came to life and had a really cute voice) traveling to the stars to save the day.

If you're all Disney-ed out by now, look east to Japan and the works of legendary animator and creator Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli.

If you're a Miyazaki fan, then you know. If you're not, that's probably because his animated films have only been digitally released in the UK since December and will stream for the first time via HBO Max. Start with My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, and Princess Mononoke who is pretty much the exact opposite of any Disney princess out there.

For the tweens, there's a new crafting competition show hosted by a YouTube influencer they probably know more about than their own family.

Craftopia takes 9- to 15-year-old contestants, puts them in a Super Markert Sweep-like scenario to fill up their in-studio shopping carts with crafting materials, and then create something amazing enough to win the "Craftrophia." The series is hosted and produced by Lauren Riihimaki aka (LaurDIY) who has nearly nine million subscribers to her YouTube channel. Ask your kids, they'll know.

But remember, HBO Max also includes access to all the kids' programming on classic HBO like Sesame Street.

Can you tell me how to get, how to get to 23 seasons and 321+ episodes of probably the most beloved children's educational program of all time? Simple, if you've got HBO Max you got them all including new episodes that premiere Saturdays at 9 a.m. Even early morning grouches can't get mad at that.

There's certainly more in the HBO Kids' catalog worth digging into like two seasons and 52 episodes worth of the Pinky Dinky Doo series. Pinky loves to create stories and encourages viewers to do the same. Plus every episode teaches kids a "Great Big Fancy Word" that will be hilarious to hear yours use completely out of context.

Sometimes you need something to wind the kids down too and when their favorite book just won't get the job done maybe the animated version will.

You've probably read this story enough times that you know it by heart, so why not let someone else tell it this time! Good Night Moon & Other Sleepytime Tales is a collection of bedtime stories and lullabies interconnected by "amusing interviews with precocious kids." Remember, you can always shut it off after the GNM part.

But to reiterate, HBO Max isn't just about the kids' stuff, you'll get access to all the grown-up stuff like original HBO series and brand new MAX series too. Plus so many more movies. You always need more of those.
