#7, that is the exact moment I was born. March 18, 1975. My mom’s friends kept asking her if she saw it, and she kept saying, “no, I was a bit busy at that moment!” It took years for it to play again in reruns and for mom to finally see it (and forgive me).
After Shelby’s funeral in Steel Magnolias, when M’Lyn (Sally Field) gives her “whhhyyyyy” speech. I’ve seen it a dozen times and I know it’s coming, and I still cry buckets of tears.
I know my social security number, my husband’s, my brother’s (it’s one digit off of my own), and my father’s. I don’t know anyone else’s.
I also know my driver’s license, due to a friend in high school insisting I be able to rattle it off on demand.
When I read these lists, I try to remember that all these people are small children. Yeah. All of them. They’re only like...6 years old...
(This is my self delusion. Please let me enjoy it, it comforts me.)
73% of you need to go read The Color Purple. And while you’re at it, read Their Eyes Were Watching God. Both written in the same era, both in dialect. Thank me later.
And everyone was like “oh it’s such a surprise ending! I didn’t see that coming at all!” Good lord, have they never heard of foreshadowing?? You could see the ending coming all the way off in Divergent, for Pete’s sake.
