House of the Dragon is based on George R.R. Martin's book Fire & Blood — which tells the history of House Targaryen — and will be set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones.

And GoT alum Miguel Sapochnik — who directed iconic GoT episodes like "Battle of the Bastards" — will serve as co-showrunner and direct the pilot (as well as other episodes).
