When I read something online asking how many women were in TV shows or films or games. I noticed that it WAS true that in some of my favorite movies two female characters never spoke to each other unless it was about men. In my favorite games the main character was always a guy. Then I started noticing it in real life. How both men and women have this standard they strive to meet based on generation of stupid assumptions. If these men and women were watching the same movies and playing the same games as me, I can see how they would feel that what they see is the norm and that is how they should act. I don’t like how women and men are represented in the media. It isn’t fair that women are treated as some over-emotional, precious, breakable princess. It also isn’t fair that men are treated as expendable, dirty, cold and rough. Maybe some of them are like that, but according to what is on the screen, ALL of them are like that. That just isn’t true at all. When I started seeing that my opinions marched those who call themselves feminists then I agreed that I was also one. I personally don’t like the name and I wish there was something that fit the definition better, but until such time I will accept myself as a feminist.
