Response to What’s Your Favorite Book Written By A Woman?:
It’s such a recent book, but A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. Don’t be scared by its daunting size because this book is worth every page. Ms. Yanagihara skillfully builds a bildungsroman of four recent college graduates and their struggles in the real world. The language and the plot are masterfully executed and this is going to be taught for years to come at the collegiate level, especially in LGBT lit classes. (As a bonus, she also has my all time favorite author bio).
“We’re all models west of the Allegheny” - Jenna
2666 by Roberto Bolano. It’s a big book that calls awareness to real problems (mainly the murders in Juarez) in a way that doesn’t feel dated. It’s a genre defying masterpiece. The first section is almost funny, while the third is hard to read because of it’s grit and it’s truth. It’s a book everyone should be handed at 21 to help them figure out the world.
