He may have come from a wealthy family, but that does not make him immune to the rampant crime and violence. Venezuelan students needed a leader and he stepped up. For the record, many people in Venezuela were “oil people” before the current government destroyed the industry and took matters into their own hands (meaning they let production stall because they did not know how to manage PDVSA). Venezuela is an oil-producing country just like Qatar or other countries where oil production provides many jobs for its citizens so being “oil-people” does not make you that special.
