This woman’s medical past includes (and I’m sure is not limited to): “15 surgeries, a brain tumor, a punctured intestine, an obstructed bowel, a brain cyst, and a condition called hydrocephalus,” which is a build up of fluids deep in the brain. Symptoms of hashimotos: weight gain, fatigue, paleness/puffiness of the face, joint/muscle pain, constipation, inability to get warm, difficulty getting pregnant, hair loss or thinning/brittle hair, irregular or heavy menstrual periods, depression, slowed heart rate. Rather than sit here and list out why I personally feel that your symptoms – ones that I honestly get every month due to being a woman, being underweight, or hypoglycemic – are far less serious than a damn brain tumor, obstructed bowel, etc., I’m going to be a decent human being and apologize for the symptoms you suffer due to your hashimotos. I’m so sorry that you feel tired, your face is puffy or pale, your muscles hurt, you can’t poop or get warm, your hair may be gone or thinning, you have odd periods, you might be depressed, your heart might be slow, and I’m truly sorry if you are unable to get pregnant. But how can you possibly criticize one’s pain to your own when it is in NO way the same thing? When you in NO way know this woman or her struggle? Honestly – how dare you? Are you so lucky that you’ve never had people question your illness and made you feel as though it was just something some Aleve and a cup of Prunelax couldn’t solve? I have hypoglycemia, I’m 20 pounds underweight and I have my own insecurities but I would never compare my struggle or my issues to someone else’s in order to belittle them or to even make myself feel better. It could be better for you but it could also be a lot worse and you’d be smart to remember that.
