Another tip: some mental health organizations do mental health studies and often seek out study participants, usually people who have struggled with mental illness or are CURRENTLY struggling with mental illness. For example, iCBT is a brand new treatment form that is currently being studied and participants are actively being recruited, at least in my city. They want to see if this treatment form is effective. if you are recruited as a participant, you will receive iCBT treatment and you’ll be closely monitored by the study physician (psychiatrist, psychologist, etc) for FREE. Mind you, studies are usually short term (a few months), but iCBT is just one example. There are also yoga studies for anxiety…. so, essentially…. you’d receive free yoga to help with your anxiety and you’d have a study physician to monitor you throughout the study period. These are just examples and they are mostly short term but it’s better than nothing at all ;)

I got to meet Shania Twain at a book signing. I must have been about 17 years old then and i’ve been a fan since I was about 4, so it was a pretty big moment for me. i still remember being the next in line, watching her greet the fan before me. When it was my turn, I completely lost all focus and could barely articulate a sentence, the only thing i said was, “Oh my god, I love you so much!”, and then i proceeded to cry. She placed her hand on top of my mine. We chatted for a little bit, but she was so so sweet. My childhood dream came true that day, I’ll never forget it.  i’ve also met Charles Kelley (Lady Antebellum) It was in 2011 and he was in my city for an award show. I was standing outside in the freezing cold on the red carpet. He ended up walking around our area and i screamed, “Charles! Charles! Charles!” He walked my way and autographed something for me. He’s so tall and handsome in person! That was the time when Lady Antebellum was *just* getting recognized, so no one else really knew his name on that carpet except for me! So I bet that made him super happy. :) I could tell!  i’ve also “met” Jack Antonoff. He is a part of the band “fun.” He is also a songwriter and co-producer on Taylor’s latest album, “1989”. He also started his own little music project called Bleachers and toured in my city in late 2014. One of my best friends and I managed to get front row seats. I got to shake his hand three times. On the fourth time, I tried reaching out but people pushed themselves in front of me and I was too tiny (and a little too far) to reach for him. He saw me, went out of his way, and reached for my hand. We exchanged this look. The “hey-i-see-you-thank-you-so-much-for-being-here-wow-i’m-so-grateful-nice-to-meet-you-i-wonder-what’s-your-name” kind of look. He really does seem like such a sweet person. The look we exchanged still speaks volumes to me even to this day.
