Hi. Hey. Hello. If you've paid even an ounce of attention to pop music over the last few years, you probably know that Taylor Swift and Katy Perry have had some DRAMA.
There's a whole lot of history to unpack there, but in brief: The two had a falling-out over some background dancers who left Taylor's tour to work for Katy.
Taylor ended up writing "Bad Blood" in response, which prompted Katy Perry to tweet that Taylor was a "Regina George in sheep's clothing." From there, a full-blown feud was born.
But now the year is 2019 and all of that is over! Because Katy Perry just made an appearance in Taylor's "You Need to Calm Down" video, and her cameo had LOTS of significance. Let's break this down.
The cameo comes at the very end of the video. First, we see a bunch of drag queens dressed as pop stars, competing in a "Pop Queen Pageant."
Naturally, RuPaul shows up to crown the winner. But then, Taylor sings, "We all know now we all got crowns." And instead of picking a winner, RuPaul throws the crown into the air.
The audience at the pageant then devolves into chaos, and a food fight breaks out. Suddenly, the real, non-drag Taylor Swift appears in the crowd, wearing a french fry costume.
And then, the big moment: Katy Perry appears!!! And she's wearing a hamburger costume. Maybe cuz they had BEEF?
(This is the very same hamburger costume Katy wore at this year's Met Gala, BTW.)
The video ends with the two pop queens dancing and hugging in the middle of the food fight. And there's added significance to the fact that they're both dressed up like food, while hordes of screaming fans throw food at each other behind them: Society wants to pit these two women against each other, but they're rising above it. And everyone just NEEDS TO CALM DOWN.
