We already knew that the fan-favourite costume drama would be returning for a second season, but it's now been revealed we can expect even more saucy goings-on in the Ton, as Netflix has ordered seasons THREE AND FOUR of its biggest ever series! Huzzah!

This welcome and yet unexpected announcement comes before production on season two – a series that will explore the love life of Anthony, Viscount Bridgerton – has even finished!

🚨 BREAKING NEWS FROM THE TON 🚨 Bridgerton is returning for seasons three *AND* four!

I mean, when 82 million households tune in to watch something, one does assume there will be A LOT more of it!

Based on Julia Quinn’s series of period romance novels, the first season of Bridgerton took the world by storm, becoming Netflix's most-watched original series ever. The announcement that the show will get at least get four seasons comes in a trademark society paper from Lady Whistledown herself!

In the first season, the Ton's infamous gossip-peddlar was revealed to be Penelope Featherington, played by Irish actor Nicola Coughlan. Penelope forms a large part of the fourth book, but who knows if the fourth series will reflect this!

Of the renewal, Executive Producer Shonda Rhimes has said: "from the first time I read Julia Quinn’s delicious Bridgerton series, I knew these were stories that would captivate a viewing audience. But the evolution of this adaptation would not be a success without the many significant contributions of the entire Shondaland team."

"This two-season pickup is a strong vote of confidence in our work" she continued, "and I feel incredibly grateful to have partners as collaborative and creative as Netflix. Betsy and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue bringing the world of Bridgerton to a worldwide audience.”

Bela Bajaria of Netflix has added, "Bridgerton swept us off our feet. The creative team, led by Shonda, knew the material and delivered a beautiful, emotional, romantic drama for our members. They have some exciting plans for the future, and we think audiences will continue to swoon for this show. We’re planning to be in the Bridgerton business for a long time to come.”

Although we know that Lord Anthony Bridgerton's quest for love will form the storyline for Bridgerton season two, it has yet to be confirmed who seasons three and four will focus on. But if the series stays true to the books, it will likely explore Benedict Bridgerton and Colin Bridgerton's love lives, respectively!

So if you fell in love with the elder Bridgerton boys during the first season, basically, get ready for a whole lot more of them!

What is likely not to change, is that Regé-Jean Page will not reappear as the dapper Duke of Hastings, Simon Bassett. I know, everyone cry on 1...2...3!

Seasons three and four of Bridgerton have yet to go into production so it's likely we won't see them on Netflix any time soon, but with season two currently filming, I doubt it will be long before we all get to return to the Ton!
