25 Friendships From Teen Dramas That Weren't As "Friendship Goals" As They Seemed

Why did we say "friendships goals" for almost all of these friendships?

We asked members of the BuzzFeed Community to tell us some of the absolute worst friendships from teen dramas. Here are some of the best responses.

    1. Betty and Veronica from Riverdale

    The CW / Via

"Veronica NEVER shows up for Betty and Betty is always kissing Archie. One of the times Veronica decided to kiss Jughead just to 'even things out'...they didn't fight or belittle each other but it's not good either."

    2. Serena and Blair from Gossip Girl

    The CW / Via

"They kept sabotaging each other and they never apologized or showed any remorse for their actions. Their friendship should have been over after Serena stole Blair's answer that could've gotten her into Yale, her dream school, fully knowing how much it meant for Blair. Especially in later seasons, they were adults who still acted like children. Serena sleeping with Dan should have been the last straw but Blair still went to 'save' her. Their friendship was entirely out of habit and they're more enemies than 'frenemies.'" —nazoz

    3. Emma and Manny from Degrassi: The Next Generation

    The N / Via

"From the beginning, Emma was so judgmental of Manny and often slut-shamed her. The worst was when Emma’s crush Peter took a video of Manny topless and sent it around the school. She was mad at Manny for showing her boobs to Peter but not mad at Peter for literally distributing child pornography?! It always bothered me that the show would have Manny crawling back to Emma begging for forgiveness when really Manny should have left Emma in the dust!"

    4. Rory and Lane from Gilmore Girls

    The WB / Via

"Lane was great, but Rory was horrible to her. Whenever Lane was talking about how her mom would never approve of a guy she liked, Rory just went on about how happy she was with Dean or Jess. Like she didn't even try to be supportive."

    5. Brooke and Peyton from One Tree Hill

    The CW / Via

"I loved Peyton's character when I was younger but as I got older I realized how selfish she was. She snuck around behind Brooke's back multiple times, put her needs first, and then stabbed her in the back AGAIN after Brooke gave her another chance which frankly I wouldn't do."

    6. Naomi and Annie from 90210

    The CW / Via

"They were constantly fighting and stabbing each other in the back!"

    7. Alison (and kinda everyone) on Pretty Little Liars

    Freeform / Via

"She was cruel to all of her 'friends' and forced them to be rude to everyone else."

    8. Kaylie and Lauren from Make It or Break It

    ABC Family / Via

"Lauren slept with Kaylie’s boyfriend and lied about it and continued to do awful things to Kaylie, Emily, and Payson even though she was supposedly their best friend and teammate."

    9. Adrianna and Silver from 90210

    The CW / Via

"Silver kisses Adrianna's boyfriend, which is awful, but Adrianna then retaliates by sending Silver's naked photo to the entire school and stealing her medication. Silver lost her place at NYU, was admitted to the hospital, and was having suicidal thoughts. That's a heck of a lot of hate for two teenage girls!"

    10. Damon and Alaric from The Vampire Diaries

    The CW / Via

"Damon turned his wife into a vampire (she wanted it but still) and then they became besties. They went through a lot and I love Damon, but I felt Alaric deserved a little better."

    11. Casey and Izzie from Atypical

    Netflix / Via

"Izzie was completely horrible to Casey and turned on her and bullied her, but Casey still took her back as a friend, and then they started dating. I wouldn't be able to forgive someone if they treated me as horribly as Izzie did to Casey."

    12. Kitty and Marley from Glee

    Fox / Via

"Marley suffered so much shit for fainting at sectionals but Kitty was the one who gave her the eating disorder, and Marley was just completely okay with that when Kitty confessed? No one should have forgiven Kitty for that."

    13. Brenda and Kelly from Beverley Hills, 90210

    Fox / Via

"Brenda goes to France for three months and Kelly immediately goes after Dylan behind Brenda's back and acts like she's innocent. Brenda is not an angel, but she deserved a better friend."

    14. Xander, Willow, Buffy, and Cordelia from Buffy the Vampire Slayer

    The WB / Via

"Xander from Buffy was the worst friend ever to Willow, Buffy, and Cordelia. Plus he was super jealous of anyone Buffy even looked at. He honestly sucked so bad and it’s hard to see how the show thought they were writing him as a nice guy."

    15. Karma and Amy from Faking It

    MTV / Via

"Karma basically manipulated Amy into pretending to be a lesbian just for popularity and then stomped on her heart when Amy actually fell in love with her. She then tried to pretend Amy's feelings were just a phase and tried to continue their toxic friendship as if nothing ever happened. All just to get a boy to like her."

    16. Kurt and Rachel from Glee

    Fox / Via

"Rachel was SUCH a toxic friend. She pretty much used Kurt and then got mad at him whenever he wanted anything for himself. Not to mention that time where she laughed in his face during his West Side Story audition."

    17. Tristan and Maya from Degrassi: The Next Class

    Teennick / Via

"As soon as something better (Zoey) came along, Tristan dumped Maya like an old sandwich. Plus, Tristan was generally a terrible person, so I was never really surprised."

    18. Mike and Will from Stranger Things

    Netflix / Via

"Will went through so much trauma and although Mike supported his friend during Season 2, Mike later resented Will and even made anti-gay remarks. I love the show but I have a hard time supporting the friendship when Mike clearly puts his love life above all else."

    19. Alex and Harper from Wizards of Waverly Place

    Disney Channel / Via

"I started re-watching the show and they always put themselves before anyone else. They are both kinda toxic. I love the show and understand that they are teenagers, but I wouldn’t wanna be friends with them."

    20. Bonnie, Caroline, and Elena from The Vampire Diaries

    The CW / Via

"Their friendship was low-key toxic. Elena made everything about herself while Caroline and Bonnie sacrificed and lost everything. Sure, Elena lost a lot but she got a happy ending and made zero sacrifices while Caroline and Bonnie were left in the dust. In Legacies, you can tell Bonnie and Caroline are closer than they are with Elena. I mean Caroline's children refer to Bonnie as their Aunt Bonnie."

    21. Cesar, Monse, Jamal, and Ruby from On My Block

    Netflix / Via

"They were really trying to get Cesar out of the gang and it was ultimately his fault that Olivia got killed in Season 2. I still don’t know how the rest of them forgave him. Like what?"

    22. Dawson and Pacey from Dawson's Creek

    The WB / Via

"Dawson didn’t ever support Pacey and always wanted to see him as a screw-up. I can’t remember any time Dawson helped him out. And of course, he was also a complete jerk about Pacey and Joey being together even though they hadn’t dated for months at that point."

    23. J.T. and Toby from Degrassi: The Next Generation

    Alliance Atlantis Communications / Via

"They were good friends at first, but then J.T. got so full of himself and kept blowing Toby off to hang with the cool kids. Toby stayed loyal to him, even after being kicked to the curb."

    24. Freddy and Cook from Skins

    E4 / Via

"They were such a toxic match. Even after they would make up, they'd just inevitably fight again."

    25. Finally, Betty and Kevin from Riverdale

    The CW / Via

"Betty does her best to look out for him, but he constantly goes against her advice and ends up getting hurt. He literally had his kidney stolen by a cult because he wouldn’t listen to her."
