Diddy Explained What Happened With Lizzo Twerking And Why She Stopped

Diddy took to Instagram to clarify.

This weekend, Diddy hosted what he called "the world's biggest dance-a-thon," where he did Instagram Lives with various celebrities and encouraged people to donate to COVID-19 relief at teamlove.com.

But backlash came when Diddy had Lizzo stop mid-twerking and said, "Whoa, stop. It's Easter Sunday. Let's play something a little family friendly."

He then streamed with Draya, who twerked to "Back That Ass Up," and he said nothing.

Here's the snippets, one after the other, for comparison:

P Diddy ain’t SHIT 😭 When Lizzo started twerking he brought that to an end with the quickness but had nothing to say to Draya when she was shaking bum 🤦🏿‍♂️🤦🏿‍♂️🤦🏿‍♂️🤦🏿‍♂️🤦🏿‍♂️

People on Twitter were quick to point out the double standard they thought they saw:

Lmaooooooo Diddy told Lizzo this was a family friendly live when she started twerking. Now, Draya on his live. They playing back that ass up and Draya was shaking that ass and Diddy said nothing😩

Did P Diddy really stop the music to shame Lizzo for twerking 'cos IG Live is for 'families' but had zero problem w/ Draya doing the same thing? Yes, that's correct. Is body-shaming, double standards, and misogyny still rife in 2020? Yes, that's correct.

Lizzo started twerking on Diddy’s IG live & Diddy talking bout stop its Easter Sunday but Draya twerks on that same live & there are no issues. Y’all can’t even hide yall disdain for fat women & I hate it.

Diddy took to his Instagram story to clarify. "There's one thing I wanna make clear. My queen, my sister Lizzo. When I stopped the music, it was because it had a lot of curses in there — not because she was twerking," he said. "She's one of the best twerkers in the world. Let's keep that clear."

"You're allowed to twerk on Easter. It was a lot of cursing in the record. I don't need Child Services knocking on my door right now," he added.

"That's why I stopped the record. Lizzo, we love you. Everyone stop looking for the negative. Look for the positive. We love y'all!"

Lizzo reposted Diddy's story that clarified that situation, so it looks like there's no drama here.

    And Lizzo, keep twerking, queen.
