23 Celebrities Talked About Some Ways Black Americans Have Been Killed

    Mic released a video on its Facebook page today of 23 celebrities, including Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Kevin Hart, and Beyoncé, who spoke about #23ways black people have died for being black in America.

    1. Sandra Bland, a 28-year-old black woman, died in police custody on July 13, 2015, after being stopped for failing to signal a lane change.

    2. Thirty-two-year-old Philando Castile was fatally shot by police on July 6, 2016 after reaching for his wallet. His girlfriend live-streamed the shooting with her 4-year-old daughter in the backseat.

    3. Eighteen-year-old Ramarley Graham was shot by police on Feb. 2, 2012 after officers entered his grandmother's apartment in the Bronx, New York.

    4. Forty-three-year-old Eric Garner died after police officers put him in an illegal chokehold for selling cigarettes.

    5. Twenty-two-year-old Oscar Grant was shot by BART police in Oakland on Jan. 1, 2009 after being detained by police.

    6. Fifty-eight-year-old Gregory Gunn was by shot, tased, and beaten by police on the early morning of Feb. 25, 2016 after walking home from a friend's house.

    7. Twenty-five-year-old Freddie Gray died April 19, 2015 after being taken into police custody. Autopsy reports say he died from a spinal cord injury.

    8. Thirty-seven-year-old Alton Sterling was fatally shot by police while pinned to the ground on July 5, 2016 for selling CDs.

    9. Seventeen-year-old Trayvon Martin was fatally shot by George Zimmerman on Feb. 26, 2012 after walking home from a convenience store.

    10. Twenty-six-year-old Mario Woods was shot more than 20 times when he was stopped by police for holding a knife.

    11. Seventeen-year-old Laquan McDonald was shot 16 times by police.

    12. Forty-three-year-old Samuel Dubose was unarmed when he was fatally shot by a University of Cincinnati police officer during a traffic stop for missing a front license plate.

    13. Twelve-year-old Tamir Rice was fatally shot by police because he was holding a toy gun.

    14. Fifty-year-old Walter Scott was shot from the back by police on April 4, 2015; after a traffic stop for a brake light. He was unarmed.

    15. Twenty-three-year-old Sean Bell was fatally shot by police after they fired 50 bullets at his bachelor party the night before his wedding. He and his friends were unarmed.

    16. Twenty-eight-year-old Akai Gurley was shot by police on Nov. 20, 2014.

    17. Nineteen-year-old Renisha McBride was fatally shot on Nov. 2, 2013 after getting into a car accident. She walked to a neighbor's house to call for help and was fatally shot by the owner of the house.

    18. Twenty-five-year-old India Beaty was gunned down by police officers on March 20, 2016 for holding a fake gun.

    19. On June 17, 2015, Dylan Roof entered Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in South Carolina and fatally shot nine black people during a prayer meeting.

    20. Twenty-two-year-old John Crawford was shot to death on Aug. 5, 2014, for a holding a BB gun in an open-carry state.

    21. Twenty-two-year-old Rekia Boyd was fatally shot on March 21, 2012 by an off-duty detective who approached Boyd and friends after leaving a party.

    22. Twenty-three-year-old Amadou Diallo was shot 19 times by four NYPD plainclothes officers who fired 41 shots on Feb. 4, 1999. He was unarmed.

    23. Twenty-four-year-old Jamar Clark was fatally shot by police on Nov. 15, 2015.
