8 Disney Sidekicks Who Make The Movie, And 8 Who Are Just Annoying

Tinkerbell sucks. There, I said it.

1. Pumba is a hilarious addition to Simba's pack in The Lion King.

Pumba is hands down my favorite character from The Lion King. When he and Timone come across a collapsed baby Simba in the desert, the delightful goofball's first reaction is, "Can we keep him?" Pumba's heart is even bigger than his stomach, and that's saying something.

2. But Sebastian from The Little Mermaid is such a spoilsport.

Ariel is determined to explore the world and catch a man in the process. Why does Sebastian want to crush her dreams?? I get that he works for King Triton, but still! Sebastian comes around eventually and wants Ariel to find her happy ending with Eric, but I'll always remember him as a cranky crustacean.

3. Mushu dishes out just the right amount of sass in Mulan.

Mushu has a saucy mouth that often gets the squad in trouble, but he's loyal and an excellent hype man. He's essential in the adventures that save Mulan's father and the emperor. And that scene where Mushu bites Ling's butt? Classic.

4. But Heihei is a completely unnecessary character in Moana.

Why does Moana get stuck with this goober? Heihei is not humorous, helpful, or even cute. He's supremely unintelligent and feels kind of random TBH. Polynesia is home to a wide range of cool animals so I'm at a loss to know why the creators chose a dumb chicken. Heihei saves the heart of Te Fiti, but other than that, he's just extremely annoying.

5. Pascal from Tangled is a total cutie pie.

Pascal is Rapunzel's truest friend. He encourages her to desert her prison and explore the unknown. He's sweetly protective of Rapunzel when Eugene enters her life. Best of all, he trips Mother Gothel so she falls out of the tower and can never hurt anyone again. And he can change colors! Dope.

6. But Cogsworth from Beauty and the Beast is a little dweeb.

When Belle's father Maurice enters the Beast's home and asks to stay for the night, Cogsworth doesn't want to help. How cruel! Even his best friend Lumière says, "Oh Cogsworth, have a heart." Cogsworth is so terrified of the Beast that he always wants to follow the rules despite the moral consequences. He's a total control freak who needs to take a chill pill.

7. Meeko is a lovable rascal who brings some lighthearted fun to Pocahontas.

Meeko has a playful spirit that balances nicely with the serious themes of the movie. His relationship growth with Percy – from Meeko terrorizing the poor dog to becoming BFFs – makes my heart full. Plus, his penchant for shiny things leads Pocahontas to making the connection between her dreams and John Smith's compass, and that inspires her to save his life. So really, Meeko is the hero of this story.

8. But Baloo has no sense in The Jungle Book.

The problem with Baloo is that he's so irresponsible. When he realizes Mowgli refuses to go to the man-village, he should try and convince this little kid that it's the only place that's safe. Instead, Baloo promises Mowgli that he'll never take him there?! It's so bizarre.

9. Tantor from Tarzan is the BFF we all deserve.

Tantor starts the movie as a total scardey cat who questions whether water is sanitary enough for him to stand in. Over the course of the film, he really finds his courage. When Tarzan is trapped in Clayton's ship, it's Tantor who reprimands Terk for her "emotional constipation" and insists on rescuing Tarzan even after he plans to desert them. Tantor's the definition of a good friend.

10. But the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland gets on my nerves.

Alice has several rotating sidekicks including the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, and the Cheshire Cat. I chose the Rabbit for this list because he's the most annoying. He's always worrying about running late while staring at a broken watch. Get it together dude.

11. Pegasus is a giant ball of fun in Hercules.

Disney

Zeus makes Pegasus out of clouds to be his son's BFF when Hercules is literally in the cradle. Though Hercules is kidnapped and forgets his past, he remembers when Pegasus head butts him. They resume being best buds, and Pegasus helps Hercules to prove himself worthy of Mount Olympus. Plus, Pegasus makes an adorable baby!

12. But Jiminy Cricket from Pinocchio is just too damn vanilla.

Jiminy Cricket is the most boring character Disney has ever created. Even as a kid, I hated him. I understand he plays the role of Pinocchio's conscience, but come on! They didn't have to make him as a total snore fest. All he wants is a gold badge to say he's a certified conscience. Lame.

13. Louis is the world's biggest sweetheart in The Princess and The Frog.

Louis might have the body of a predator, but he's a total softie. He helps Tiana and Naveen through the bayou, to Mama Odie, and back to the city. And his concern for Ray, a firefly just a fraction of his size, is touching. I love that Louis ends up playing his trumpet at Tiana's restaurant by the end of the movie.

14. But Jaq from Cinderella is just not my cup of tea.

On paper, Jaq is a good sidekick. He helps to spruce up Cinderella's dress for the ball and free her from the attic when the Duke pays a visit. But something about him is just bothersome to me. His weird hoarse voice? The fact that he's a mouse? Whatever the reason, I've never been a fan.

15. Genie from Aladdin is the kind of guy I want in my corner.

Disney

Genie could easily let his powers get to his head or try to use them for evil like Jafar. Instead, he's a down-to-earth dude and a solid friend, too. He gets Aladdin out of several tight spots and offers lots of comedic relief while he does it.

16. But Tinkerbell can be a real pain in Peter Pan.

Tinkerbell is lowkey a villain in my book. When Wendy's flying into Neverland, Tinkerbell convinces the boys to shoot stuff in the sky to try and kill Wendy. When Peter Pan saves Wendy from a horrible death, Tinkerbell gets so pissed that her entire body turns red. It's honestly gross to see a woman sabotage another woman over a man. What happened to girl power?
