19 Of Our Favorite Movies That Were Completely Disrespected By An Awful, Unnecessary Sequel

    For many of us movie lovers, one of the most satisfying things is when a movie has the perfect ending.

    Last week, Reddit user, u/HalfOffEveryWndsdy, asked "What movies had the perfect ending but were ruined by a sequel?" And, as always, the good people of Reddit were spot on!

    1. Enchanted

    "Enchanted was beautiful, had an amazing cast, and has one of the best Disney endings just 'cause of how everyone gets their own happy ending. Then, Disenchanted came and just shat all over it."

    "I honestly did not expect the film to be good. I simply saw it as a cash-grab by studios. I was surprised at how much I actually enjoyed it. The sequel, however, delves into politics and whatnot, and really just ruined the ending of the first one."

    "Mulan 2 is probably the worst of the direct-to-DVD Disney sequels, and that's saying something. It isn't just a bad movie, it outright detracts from the message and themes of the first."

    "Rambo. The first was an interesting look into the psychology of a traumatized, antisocial war veteran, and what assholes with power will do to people that don't fit into their controlled world. The sequels are basically jingoist propaganda."

    5. Toy Story 3

    "Honestly, if they had just done Toy Story 4 as a stand-alone, 'What happened to Bo-Peep?' film, I'd have been much more satisfied with the movie. It didn't need to have the core toys from the first three movies because they already had their perfect ending, and resolved their story in a bittersweet way. TS4 felt like a strange, unnecessary fan-fiction. I liked it, I guess, but it really didn't feel connected to anything because the central plot had been resolved. It just felt like it could've been one of those 20-minute dream sequence short stories."

    "Honestly, they REALLY should have stopped after the third one. It's so obvious from how the movie was shot that it was supposed to be the end of the franchise, but then, they just had to try and keep milking it. It ruins it. Perhaps, I am simply biased because Davy Jones was cool as fuck and commanded any scene he was in, but it really should have just stopped with the third."

    "What was The Little Mermaid 2? It was so disappointing and infuriating! Basically, Ariel becomes her father and is controlling to Melody exactly like how her father was in the original. I get that her child was in danger from Morgana (Ursula's sister), but it still irks me. Melody was a brat. I'm sorry, but I really hated it and still do.

    It's literally just the original swapped and with no prince. So lazy! King Eric was the only good thing. Also adult Flounder...what was that about? 🤣"

    "The original is an all-time classic! Two has its moments but botches the ending IMO. Three is made up of the leftover pieces of the other two. It's not bad, but it's pretty redundant all in all. Four is interesting enough for the concept of 'what if this happened when the park was open?' The execution was a bit meh, but it's no worse than Two. Five and Six are just ridiculous and terrible movies."
