30 Things You Should Know About Tyler Henry

The Hollywood Medium star takes our Q&A!

    1. What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

I usually go straight for coffee when I wake up. I start my day with a half hour meditation...but only after a cup of coffee. Caffeination with meditation might sound funny, but it's how I don't fall back asleep in the morning!

    2. When you walk into a bar, what do you typically order?

Sparkling water with a side of French fries if I'm feeling spontaneous.

    3. What's the one word you are guilty of using too often?

Immensely. One of the challenges of my job is relaying the magnitude of information coming through in a reading, and when I'm overwhelmed in processing a feeling because of how intense it is, my brain resorts to calling it "immense" for some reason.

    4. What is the last thing you searched for on Google?

    Joan Crawford eyebrows.

    5. Who is the last person that called or texted you?

My assistant Charlie was my last text. We're flying to London soon and she was needing reassurance on stomaching the flight. I tell her when we fly that the fact that I'm on the same plane voluntarily is a testament to my belief that the flight is going to go smoothly...or else I wouldn't board it myself. That should be reassuring enough.

    6. What's the wallpaper on your phone and/or computer?

Phone: My pug Pearl with her tongue out trying to catch a fly.

Computer: Some generic pre-installed background. I really need to up my wallpaper game.

    7. What was the last awkward situation you were in and how did you handle it?

I was out shopping and a teenage girl came up to me and said I looked familiar. She then became really insistent that I was Dylan Minette from Thirteen Reasons Why. I had to break the bad news to her. I was flattered, but it was weird since I'm typically used to being mis-recognized as Macauly Culkin by people who don't know he's 36.

    8. What is your TV guilty pleasure?

RuPaul's Drag Race. I don't watch much television, but it's one of the few I tune into regularly. I was shocked last week when the fabulous queen Alexis Michelle mentioned the "Hollywood Medium" in the work room randomly during a conversation. I had to rewind that part to make sure I heard properly, and it made my day. Super surreal.

    9. What's the first CD you bought?

Jesse McCartney's album Beautiful Soul in 2004. I had his posters, frosted tips and all.

    10. And what music are you currently listening to?

My tastes have changed more towards Lana Del Rey. I'm so excited for her Lust For Life album and would really enjoy getting to read her someday. A boy can dream!

    11. What is the one food you cannot resist?

Pasta, French fries, really anything heavy in carbohydrates. They keep me going.

    12. What movie makes you laugh the most?

There's Something About Mary. I think Cameron Diaz is effortlessly hilarious, and I always go back to it.

    13. What toppings do you like on your pizza?

Cheese. Boring, I know, but I make up for it in personality (<-- even more cheese).

    14. What drives you absolutely crazy?

When people stop in the aisles at supermarkets with zero spatial awareness. That's a first world problem, but ughhh.

    15. What was your first online screen name?

Probably tyhenry. My last name is Koelewyn, but I've always gone by my middle name Henry, since Koelewyn is just too many vowels.

    16. What’s the last thing you copied & pasted on your phone?

A tweet I was sending to a friend, "Our soul's fulfillment is dependent on two allowances: the extent in which we share love, and the extent in which we let love in." That's a good reminder.

    17. What’s your favorite curse word?

"Heaven's to Betsy!" It's a phrase, but nothing throws someone off like cursing with the obscenity of a ninety year old woman.

    18. What's your favorite emoji?

Probably the sparkle emoji. It adds a little excitement to any sentence, no matter how mundane. (I could use it here.)

    19. Pick one: Kittens or puppies?

Both, but kittens. They're less work and they have the dignity to keep their bathroom practices discreet.

    20. New York or Los Angeles?

LA all the way. I'm too much of a hippy for the east coast. New York is beautiful and I enjoy how straight-forward it is culturally, but I prefer the coast I was raised on.

    21. Twitter or Instagram?

Instagram. The community on Instagram is really laid back and extremely supportive. Sometimes I prefer to just share a photo than think of fitting what I want to say into 140 characters.

    22. Bacon or Nutella?

Nutella, since I'm a vegetarian. I'm still trying to convince myself that hazelnuts are vegetables and therefore spreading it on everything is reasonable.

    23. Britney or Christina?

Britney. If Jesse McCartney was an answer he'd take priority though.

    24. Coffee or tea?

Coffee, tea has yet to be bitter enough.

    25. NSYNC or BSB?

NSYNC. I actually met with Lance Bass and gave him a reading on Hollywood Medium this upcoming season.

    26. 2 a.m. or 2 p.m.?

2 a.m. — I think my best ideas and realizations come really late at night when I'm at my least distracted. Having quiet time mentally is key in harnessing our intuition, and being awake when others are asleep allows for us to be with our thoughts.

    27. Beyoncé or Rihanna?

My mom would say Rihanna, but I actually don't really listen to either. When we're filming she'll put on "Umbrella" and blast it out of the stereo, and I joke that I prefer wind chime noises and dolphin squeaks on loop (typical meditation music).

    28. Netflix and chill or just Netflix?

Heaven's to Betsy, it's getting warm in here. My answer is Netflix binge-watching The Golden Girls.

    29. Hannah Montana or Lizzie McGuire?

Lizzie McGuire will always be #1. I rewatched the Lizzie McGuire movie about a million times and am still not entirely sure Hilary Duff doesn't have a twin out there somewhere.

    30. And finally: tell us a secret.

Despite people thinking my mom recognized Lil Jon when I introduced the two in Season 2 of Hollywood Medium, she actually had know idea who he was. If you watch the footage back, I saw her face go blank and mentioned his name so she wouldn't look silly. I didn't recognize him, but then again she's the one who claims to be a rap fan! When we went home she looked up his music and he's now one of our favorites.
