34 Movies That Actually ~Should~ Be Remade

But you can vote if you want to agree or disagree!

Like it or loathe it, movies are remade all of the time. Some are pretty bad, but ~some~ are actually pretty damn good. We asked members of the BuzzFeed Community which films they think actually should be remade and why. Here are some of the best responses:

1. Breakfast at Tiffany's

Paramount Pictures

"Have it be more faithful to the original novella with Paul being gay and Holly Golightly leaving for Africa in the end, or at least have an ACTUAL JAPANESE GUY play Mr. Yunioshi as opposed to a white guy in yellowface. Keep the iconic LBD outfit, obviously." – Rachel Williams, Facebook, and kellya470feba26

No one could ever replace Audrey Hepburn. Absolutely not.

2. Pippi Longstocking

Beta Film

"There needs to be a good Pippi Longstocking adaptation – don't mind if it's live-action or cartoon, but nothing that has been made up to now has done the books justice." – Anna King, Facebook

I'd love to see a Pippi Longstocking remake.

    Nope, not needed.

3. To Kill a Mockingbird

Universal Pictures

"I think the old version of To Kill a Mockingbird with Gregory Peck is great, but I don’t think enough people have seen it/appreciate it. I think there could be a really amazing remake, and then many more people of this generation would know and love To Kill a Mockingbird." – eliceadevonshire

It's too much of a classic – leave it alone.

4. The People Under the Stairs

Universal Pictures

"It's a ’90s horror movie about people who break into their landlord's house to find that they have a group of cannibalistic children locked up under the stairs. It's creepy and kind of funny, but at the same time it also deals with race, class, and how greed brings out the worst in people." – Jerika Layne, Facebook

5. I Am Legend

Warner Bros. Pictures

"I LOVE the novel, and I love the whole apocalypse/post-apocalypse genre. All three movies have never been able to capture what was so great about the novel. The Will Smith version was somewhat close, but it was a CGI mess that confused vampires with zombies and totally confused the message of what the novel was trying to deliver. What's upsetting is that it wouldn't be hard at all to make a perfect adaptation for I Am Legend. It's pretty simple and face forward. It's the fact that Hollywood is afraid to give us dark and realistic endings." – Hayden Thomas Veach, Facebook

I think they could get it really right if it was remade.

6. The Hunchback of Notre Dame, as live-action

Disney

"Since Disney seems pretty dedicated to making live-action versions of all their films, I think The Hunchback of Notre Dame would be gold. It's the sort of movie I always forget how great it is until it's actually on in front of me. They should make it darker too (which would be hard – the original animated film does get sort of macabre), and hopefully make a point of using a new cast instead of relying on Hollywood favorites." – Briana Hicks, Facebook

8. Neverwhere (from TV series to film)

BBC

"Even though it was technically a miniseries, Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere should be remade. It was awesome back then, but I know it would be AMAZING with a bigger budget." – Jester and Sly

9. The Girl on the Train in London

Universal Pictures

"It should have been set in London. I’m watching it right now after reading the book. It’s lost a lot of its London charm. Where are the English accents? Why is Rachel not a little chubby!? Why do they not live on Blenheim Road? Why is Kamal Abdic not brown!?" – sarahafiyaw

12. My Sister's Keeper

New Line Cinema

"They changed the entire ending and cut out about half the story to make a feel-good Lifetime movie instead of a Jodi Picoult story." – elisevb2595

"They need to redo My Sister’s Keeper, but they need to make it accurate to the book. That movie was completely different…it sucked compared to the book because the book was so incredible." – mikolem

15. Electric Dreams

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer

"Clever, fun, sweet romantic comedy where the third wheel is the guy’s computer. Technology made it dated almost immediately – a good update would be awesome." – mattl50

"A more modern computer would be a much more believable romantic rival than an Apple II." – Matt Lovato, Facebook

Walt Disney Productions

"As awesome as Angela Lansbury was in the original, there were a few logic/plotholes that should be addressed (how did they breathe underwater?) and I would be excited to see what today’s CGI could do with the animated parts." – jessileum

19. A Streetcar Named Desire

Warner Bros.

"I’d love a remake of Streetcar Named Desire. The play is so good, and the movie with Marlon Brando is great. But I’d love to see it done with some beautiful modern cinematography, and I think the issues and the characters are still relevant to modern society." – katm45798db18

20. The Outsiders

Warner Bros.

"Don’t get me wrong, Francis Ford Coppola did a bomb-ass job on the original (and shout-out to the awesome 2005 Director’s Cut), BUT I would like to see a remake, because the book is still being read by middle-school kids today and the children probably don’t even know who the actors are any more." – shawneelynn and g48d34841f
