I'm Personally Dumbfounded By These 13 "Sex And The City" Moments Because...Well, They Aged Like Milk

"How does that work?! You go to bed one night, you wake up the next morning, and poof: You're a lesbian?" —Carrie on Samantha's relationship with a woman

That's right, folks: And Just Like That... is back for Season 2. And probably like every Sex and the City fan out there, I recently went back and rewatched ALL. OF. IT. — the reboot, the original series, and the movies. And boy oh boy, was it a journey.

Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha from "Sex and the City"

As I was rewatching, I couldn't help but cringe at all of their truly problematic moments. Like...I truly can't believe these scenes made the final cut. They also didn't learn too much from their past mistakes once AJLT... dropped in 2021. Season 1 unfortunately had many forced moments that tried to make up for SATC's awful past.

Harry and Charlotte in bed talking about how they don't have any Black friends, then Charlotte asking her neighbor, Shelley, to the dinner party the next day

This inspired me to ask the BuzzFeed Community what the most problematic moments are from the Sex and the City universe. So, here are some that are pretty hard to disregard and get over:

Note: Not all submissions are from Community users.

Warning: Some submissions include topics of sexual assault, gay hate, and racism.

    1. When Carrie slut-shamed Samantha for giving a blowjob to a man in her office, even after all of the many, many times Samantha unconditionally supported Carrie's horrible decisions when it came to men (like having an affair with Big):

Carrie judging Samantha for giving a blowjob to someone in her office, and Samantha responding: "I will wear whatever, and blow whomever I want as long as I can breathe and kneel"

    2. When the girls traveled to Abu Dhabi and did extremely culturally insensitive things, like wear niqābs so they could escape a "mob" and get to the airport before being bumped from first class:

Miranda, Carrie, Samantha, and Charlotte wearing niqābs; Miranda screaming from the car: "We've got a lot of Abu Dhabi to do -- Abu Dhabi do!"

    3. When Charlotte and Carrie could not (and would not) accept Miranda's sexual journey with Che, and cruelly made her feel guilty about the whole thing:

Miranda: "It's not as simple as gay or straight. Che identifies as nonbinary"

    4. When Lisa asked Miranda for a cup of wine to get through Lily's piano recital, and Anthony called her the "Black Charlotte" instead of her actual name:

Lisa asking Miranda for a cup of wine, and Anthony telling Carrie: "Here — give that to Black Charlotte"

    5. When Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte were totally unsupportive when Samantha explored her sexuality and had a relationship with a woman named Maria:

Samantha telling Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte she's dating Maria; Miranda, Carrie, and Charlotte reacting negatively on their walk home afterwards

    6. When Miranda had a hard time buying an apartment in Manhattan because of a sexist broker, and Charlotte suggested it was her fault because she was an independent woman:

Charlotte to Miranda: "If you own and he rents, then the power structure is all off. It's emasculating. Men don't want a woman who's too self-sufficient"

    7. When the writing around the choice to make Rock's character genderfluid felt suuuuper forced, leading to a very cringeworthy conversation yielded by Charlotte:

Charlotte upset that Rock changed his name, and Rock showing her his coming out TikTok

    8. When Carrie learned that Barkley, the Soho womanizer, videotaped his sexual experiences with models without their consent, and the show just brushed it off like it was no big deal:

Carrie: "Do they know about this?" Barkely: "Maybe..."

    9. When Samantha gained 15 pounds after moving to LA, and Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte held an intervention where they essentially fat-shamed her:

Samantha: "I didn't realize how big I was until I saw it on your faces"

    10. When Samantha broke up with Maria because they talked about their feelings too much, perpetuating an annoying stereotype about woman-loving-woman relationships:

Samantha: "I don't want talk -- I want passion. I want fireworks!" Maria: You want fireworks?! Here are fireworks!" Maria breaks Samantha's plates

    11. When Samantha complained about the Black trans sex workers outside of her apartment building, and called them a derogatory term:

Samantha: "I am paying a fortune to live in a neighborhood that's trendy by day and tranny by night"

    12. When Carrie ditched her boyfriend at the very cool and hip party because she just "couldn't handle" dating a man who identified as bisexual:

Carrie voiceover: "That was the last night I saw Sean. I realized they could do whatever they wanted, but deep down, I was too old to play this game"

    13. And when Miranda went apartment hunting in Brooklyn and told Brady they needed to follow the "white guy with a baby" in order to secure a "good home" for themselves:

Miranda walking in Brooklyn, telling Brady: "Look. White guy with a baby! Wherever he's going, that's where we need to be"
