28 Disney Characters I Wish Would Just Come Out Already

The straights never bothered me anyway.

It's Pride Month, y'all! And there's no better time to come out, live in your truth, and celebrate every beautiful part of yourself that makes you uniquely you!

Disney / Via

Slay, girl!

So in honor of this, I've compiled a list of Disney characters who are most definitely, probably, without a doubt, most likely queer.

Disney / Via

It's time to come out, y'all!

(Note: This is all in good fun, and people should only come out when they feel comfortable, safe, and ready. HAPPY PRIDE!)

1. Elsa (Frozen)

Closeup of Elsa

Ok, let's start with a softball (that's not a lesbian joke I swear!!). It's pretty widely suspected and accepted that Elsa is a lesbian. I mean, her whole storyline is a queer narrative. "Conceal don't feel"? Ok, me from ages 0-21!! "Let It Go"? More l like "Com-Ing Out"! And we could all clearly see what was happening between her and Honeymaren in Frozen II! Rise, lesbian queen!

2. Gaston (Beauty and the Beast)

Gaston showing his chest hair

Heard of masc for masc? Well, this absolutely toxic gay has! It's all over his dating profiles, along with "DL" (on the down low). Without the support he truly needs, Gaston puts on the facade of being a ladies man, but it's very "lady doth protest too much, methinks" energy. You think he's going after Belle because she's the most beautiful woman in town? PLEASE! There's nothing gays love more than strong, smart, independent women, and that's exactly what Belle is. HE GAY!

3. Raya and Namaari (Raya and the Last Dragon)

Y'all. Y'ALL! If you watch even 10 seconds of this movie, you could see that these two are deeply in LOVE WITH EACH OTHER!!! Raya calls Namaari "princess undercut." ARE WE PUTTING THE PIECES TOGETHER YET?? The on-screen tension is PALPABLE! After the credits rolled, these two immediately went antiquing together and started discussing feminist theory. And honestly, that's exactly what I want to see in a Raya sequel!!

4. King Triton (The Little Mermaid)

Closeup of King Triton

We love a muscle daddy, honey! When he needs to let off a little steam, he heads straight to The Eagle for leather night with his buds. He's from a different era and has a lot of wisdom to pass on as a gay elder. Just imagine him doing a TikTok with The Old Gays. You can see it, can't you? Let him in the group, guys!

5. Mulan (Mulan)

Closeup of Mulan

Look! It's our favorite They/Them! This non-binary icon not only rejects the rigidity of gender roles, but is also out here representing for the demisexuals, those who only find themselves attracted to people once they've formed a close emotional bond. Is that not exactly what happened out there when they were fighting the Huns with Li Shang?? Give the movie another watch and tell me this isn't the case!

6. Pleakley (Lilo & Stitch)

Oh, sweet, gender nonconforming Pleakley! We love you! You've been out here doing it for the girls since 2002. Unapologetically living your truth and setting an example of the importance of staying true to yourself! And that's not even mentioning the LOOKS! She/he/they really said, "You want fashion, darling? I'll GIVE you fashion!" Where is Pleakley's spin-off??

7. Jafar (Aladdin)

Closeup of Jafar

This queen is such a messy b*tch. His motto: "living for the drama, mawma!" Jafar is the kind of gay that you reeeeeeally have to watch out for. He'll lure you into a gossip sesh, and sure, in the moment it feels exhilarating! But then, when it's over, you're gonna realize you said too much! Your secrets aren't safe! He's going straight to Kaden to tell him that you hate his boyfriend, and Jafar is just going to sit back and smile as it all comes to a head at brunch. YOU CANNOT TRUST THIS GIRL!

8. Prince Naveen (The Princess and the Frog)

Prince Naveen

Yow yow yow! Prince Naveen is an absolute hottie and a poly/omnisexual king! He's just got so much love and affection to give. He can't be contained, nor should he be! And we love him for it. Tiana is totally on board, and gives him nothing but her love and support. And that is beautiful!

9. Audrey Ramirez (Atlantis: The Lost Empire)

Audrey Ramirez blowing a bubble with her gum

The Atlantis crew's chief mechanic from Michigan (shout out to my home state, wut wut). Audrey is a no-nonsense lesbian who tells it like it is, and is always boppin' around in her overalls (tell me you don't know this girl!!!). You got a problem with your carburetor? Or maybe not quite sure what the hell a carburetor is?? Audrey is your gal! She even gained the respect of one Henry Ford. Heard of him?? (Seriously, this is canon!!!) This is the lesbian you're LUCKY to call a friend.

10. Flynn Rider, aka Eugene Fitzherbert (Tangled)

Closeup of Flynn Rider

This gay grew up in a small town and moved to the Big City™ to reinvent himself! He said, "Eugene who?" and then pranced around Hell's Kitchen introducing himself to everyone as "Flynn Rider." When you think about the name for too long, it sounds a little...ya' a stage name. I'M NOT IMPLYING ANYTHING! Just simply an observation!!!!

11. Li Shang (Mulan)

Closeup of Li Shang

Ok, Shang has long been heralded as a bi-con, and we love that! But listen, Shang was not deterred from developing feelings for Mulan when they were posing as a boy, and then continued having feelings for them when Mulan was posing as a woman. And now that we know Mulan is an enby, I think it's safe to say Shang is omnisexual, meaning he's attracted to ALL gender identities and orientations. It only makes sense!

12. Cogsworth (Beauty and the Beast)

Name one straight man (er...clock) that would make the joke, "If it's not Baroque, don't fix it." I'LL WAIT!! This queen's house is full of antique tables and chaise lounges, and spends his weekends going to art exhibits you've never heard of and watching House Hunters International on HGTV. "They should have gone with the one that had the kitchen banquette" is absolutely something he's said before.

13. Mirabel (Encanto)

Mirabel is so obviously bisexual, it's like why do I even need to list the reasons, ya know? It's all right there, and if you can't see it, I'm sorry, but that's on you!!

14. Pain and Panic (Hercules)

Pain and Panic

Hello, and welcome to demon Bert and Ernie. We all know this gay couple. They are completely codependent, and everyone knows their relationship is toxic AF, but is too afraid to say anything about it. It's hard to watch them devolving right in front of your eyes, but scarier still is the question: "What would they do if they didn't have each other?" It's so messy it seems beyond repair, but you still love them despite the many uncomfortable moments at their perfectly curated brunches.

15. GoGo Tomago (Big Hero 6)

GoGo Tomago

We've got a lesbian cool-girl on our hands, folks! She is the kind of gal that wears a lot of leather jackets and has a collection of dangly earrings and broad-brimmed hats that make you go, "Whoa! This lady is COOL." Even though she's actually really nice, she makes everybody nervous because she's just so cool! Have I mentioned she's COOL??? Because she is. Cool. I'm nervous just thinking about her.

16. Thomas (Pocahontas)

Closeup of Thomas

Oh, sweet soft-boi, Thomas. We've all been you before. Desperately in love with our friend, John Smith, only to watch him fall in love with the most stunning woman we've ever seen, who has hair that defies the very laws of nature. How can one compete?! This was my entire high school, college, etc. experience. But one day, you're gonna find a dashing man of your own and look back on these days and laugh (and cry a lil, too) about the time you spent pining for a straight boy. It's kind of a rite of passage.

17. Clayton (Tarzan)

Clayton from "Tarzan"

This is the kind of daddy who actually hates being called "daddy." He's desperately clinging to his youth and doesn't want you to remind him that he's half a century old. And don't mention the grays! It's hard to find a good colorist when you're out in the jungle searching for gorillas! Clayton clings so hard to who he WAS that he doesn't let himself be who he IS. A true cautionary tale!

18. Megara (Hercules)

Oh, you think Megara has never been in a relationship with a woman before? Grow up! Just because she's currently in a relationship with a straight (?) man doesn't mean she isn't queer! It's 2022 for the gods' sake! Long before Hunkules came around, Meg was dating hither and tither, bouncing between genders like it ain't no thang, because it ain't! To those in the LGBTQ community in "straight-passing" situations, Meg says, "I SEE YOU, BABY!"

19. Kronk (The Emperor's New Groove)

This sweet, dumb Himbo has my heart. Seriously, Kronk is my ideal boyfriend. Like a big puppy dog who could bench press the hell out of me, and then make me a delicious dinner. What's not to love here? We'd spend our nights cuddled up on the couch, chowing down on spinach puffs while I try to remind him what's happening in the episode of Riverdale we literally JUST watched, before giving up and pressing play. If you know any Kronks, please send them my way.

20. Zazu (The Lion King)

Aww, this asexual little bird! Dependable and a little uptight, Zazu is so completely comfortable in his own, feathers. Mainstream media wasn't ready for asexual identities in the year 1994, but Zazu said, "Now see here!" and what we saw was an ace bird living boldly and proudly. Cheers to you, Zaz!

21. Every last creature in the Hundred Acre Wood (Winnie the Pooh)

The animals of "Winnie the Pooh"

You look into the eyes of these little woodland creatures and tell me that each and everyone of them is not, in some way, shape, or form, queer! We've got gays, asexuals, lesbians, sapiosexuals, aromantics — I could go on! The Hundred Acre Wood is a nonstop Pride parade representing every color of the queer rainbow. Not convinced? Well, they're all either anxious, depressed, or manic, and if those aren't staples of the queer existence, I don't know what is! (Take care of your mental health, y'all. xoxo)

22. Jim Hawkins (Treasure Planet)

Closeup of Jim Hawkins

The bisexual energy radiating off of this guy is INTENSE! I mean, this haircut for one is practically SCREAMING, "I'm not gay, but I'm certainly not straight!" He's got everyone crushing on him, and when he smiles at you, it's like, "Let lightning strike me dead because I actually don't think I can handle all of this. It's too much!"

23. Esméralda (The Hunchback of Notre Dame)

Esmeralda dancing

This bisexual woman awakened an entire generation! What power she has! What beauty! She was dancing and flipping and twirling, and all the while, we were saying, "Hm, now this is an interesting feeling I'm having!" No one was safe. NO ONE! With the simple flick of her tambourine, she said, "You're bi! You're gay! You're lesbian!" And it was so. We owe her everything.

24. Mr. Toad (The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad)

Mr. Toad

Mr. Toad is an absolute FREAK! He's the kind of gay who goes to work, seems completely unsuspecting, and then someone tags him in a Facebook pic from his trip to Mykonos, and suddenly you're like, "THAT'S the same Mr. Toad who works in accounting??? I do not know this man!!" We love an amphibian who keeps us on our toes.

25. Goofy (A Goofy Movie)

Goofy is queer queer queer queer QUEER, babe! They cannot be defined! What even are they? We don't KNOW! And we don't need to know! Goofy exists outside the realm of species and gender and sexuality. Goofy is in a category all their own. Goofy simply IS! And that's enough! AN ICON!

26. Happy and co. (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs)

Happy from "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs"

What's another word for "happy"? G-A-Y GAY!! And whyyyyy is he so chipper? Somethin' about living in a quaint, little cottage with his six boyfriends, methinks. This movie may have come out in the '30s, but this Hept-ouple (like a "throuple," but make it seven) was way ahead of its time! Let's hear it for the boys!

27. The Blue Fairy (Pinocchio)

The Blue Fairy

The Blue Fairy is one of those slightly older, lipstick lesbians akin to Sarah Paulson and Portia de Rossi. She's magnetic and fun, and is the kind of person you hope you get seated next to at your friend's hoity-toity dinner party because you know she's ready to take the piss out of everything. And all the little asides she makes under her breath will have you stifling your laughter. Befriend this woman.

28. Chernabog (Fantasia)

I've seen this gay in every gym I've ever set foot in. Grunting so loud it's comical. Dropping his weights with such a *clang* you can hear it through your earbuds. The kind of gay who walks around naked in the locker room a liiiiiittle too long and you're like, "Ok, dude, we get it!" Chernabog walked so Demon Twink could run (you can ask your gay friends what this means).
