40 Kitchen Gadgets That Will Probably Change Your Life

A pizza cutter shaped like a bicycle, an automatic pan stirrer, and an electric jar opener you'll probably thank your lucky stars for.

We hope you love the products we recommend! All of them were independently selected by our editors. Just so you know, BuzzFeed may collect a share of sales or other compensation from the links on this page if you decide to shop from them. Oh, and FYI — prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication.

    1. An automatic pan stirrer with a timer, perfect for any aspiring chef who tends to get a little absent-minded while following a recipe.

a tube-like gadget with three prongs at the bottom that sit inside a pan and stir for you
    UncommonGoods

Promising review: "My husband loves to cook. We have two very small children, so while his meals are mostly yummy, they are also sometimes burnt. :) This was perfect for him. He's able to turn it on, run into the next room to save the day with a plastic bag and a washcloth for whatever blowout-esque mess I'm dealing with, forget he's cooking, run back into the kitchen frantically when he remembers, and arrive only to find the meal practically cooking itself. Best. Gift. Ever." —Jake the ChefturnedDaddy

Get it from UncommonGoods for $25.

    2. A Cuisinart electric kettle that'll help you whip up a ~spot of tea~ so fast even Queen Elizabeth II would applaud you.

a stainless steel kettle with water measurements on the side and temperature indicating buttons
    Amazon

My husband *insisted* on splurging on this kettle when we first moved in together. I was hesitant but realized its worth from the first time I used it. In the past I'd heat up hot water for tea in a mug in the microwave or impatiently wait for water to boil on the stove. This kettle has made making tea (and oatmeal!) a breeze, especially when we have guests. Highly recommend!

Promising review: "This thing is great. We use it every day and for way more than just making tea which is what we bought it for. Anything you need to boil water for, this is how you should do it. Need to heat milk for the baby? Set to 185-190, when done, pour in a bowl and set the milk in this. Won't scorch the milk and you have total control over the temperature so it won't get too hot for the baby. We loved this thing so much and must have used it three to four times a day for the last 5+ years and still holding strong. It has to be the most used appliance in our house. If you have kids, get this, and forget the bottle warmer." —Mike

Get it from Amazon for $69.99.

    3. A simplehuman trash can you'll probably cry tears of joy over if you hate germs, because now you'll never have to physically touch the garbage can again.

a semi-round stainless steel garbage can
    simplehuman / Via instagram.com

It wouldn't even be a stretch to tell you my simplehuman trash can is the light of my life right now. I often finding myself awkwardly waving my hand over OTHER garbage cans expecting them to magically open like mine does. Oops.

Promising review: "I bought this trash can because my cat was once a stray who hasn't ever managed to break the habit of scavenging, though she's well-fed. She's also frustratingly smart and managed to defeat all of our 'cat-proofing' efforts on our old trash can. The lid of the trash can is flush with the rim, so cats can't paw it open, and they'd have to be really heavy/strong to trigger the pedal to open it. It's also quite stable, so pushing it over isn't an option." —Lissa Bryan

Get it from Amazon for $94.97+ (available in two sizes and styles).

    4. An electric jar-opener, because we all deserve to live in a world where we don't need to ask someone else to open our salsa, sauce, or jams.

    Amazon

My mom has fragile wrists, so my dad gifted this to her for the holidays. She routinely will FaceTime me just to show me how "IT REALLY WORKS!" so, not only will you get an easily-opened jar, but you'll get a few minutes of entertainment as well.

Promising review: "I love the Hamilton Beach Open Ease Automatic Jar Opener product, because it actually works. I was skeptical that this product would work well, but it actually does what it says. I've tested it the product on multiple unopened glass bottles (with tight tops, that would be difficult, if not impossible for me to open without a rubber mat and some hot water). It was so easy to use, without complicated directions. And for me, it worked every time." —silhouette_of_enchantment

Get it from Amazon for $36.99.

    5. A SinkShroom strainer you won't know how you lived without because it'll keep your kitchen sink unclogged no matter how much gunk you fill it with.

    Heather Braga / BuzzFeed, Amazon

I bought this for myself (since I'm clearly a REAL adult) and OMG. This thing REALLY works. Usually when my husband makes sauce from scratch I'm left with chunks of tomatoes throughout my sink and water that WILL NOT drain — that was until I bought the SinkShroom. My mom was so impressed she bought one, too. It's a serious game-changer.

Promising review: "I’ve been a fan of the SinkShroom and TubShroom, and this is the best product from the line so far. My kitchen sinks simply do not clog any more, so there’s no more reaching into a bunch of water to unclog anything with my hand." —Brady Amerson

Get it from Amazon for $12.99.

    6. A seriously powerful blender for anyone who has made morning smoothies part of their ritual or absolutely loathes chunks in their sauces and soups. This gadget will get the job DONE.

    a professional-looking blender
    Hurom

My parents' verrrrry old blender gave out on them recently, so they were on the search for a new one. I came across this one from Hurom and figured it was worth a shot — and it didn't disappoint. My dad has been using it to whip up a variety of smoothies, shakes, and cocktails (my sister has requested a weekly mojito happy hour while quarantining with them). He's a tough critic and says this blender is worth the splurge. It has pre-programmed settings that work flawlessly and has a built-in safety system to prevent it from overheating.

Get it from Amazon for $349 or Hurom for $349.

    7. An ironic garlic chopper inspired by Dracula to make any you smile and prevent your fingers from smelling like pungent garlic all day.

    Amazon

You can also use it to chop nuts, fruits, and veggies!

Promising review: "I purchased this as a gift for my friend who is a fantastic cook — she uses fresh ingredients almost exclusively — but pressing fresh garlic is a task usually delegated. No longer — Gracula is there for her. She uses him nearly every time she needs garlic (which is basically daily) and months later still makes a point of saying how much she enjoys the gift. I'm pretty sure she likes it better than other gifts I've gotten her which were more expensive/thought out, and I'm fairly certain it's what took me from 'good friend' to 'best friend,' but it be that way sometimes. Anyway, definitely recommended for people who cook with garlic and have a sense of humor." —L

Get it from Amazon for $17.30.

    8. An 8-in-1 kitchen gadget tool complete with a funnel, a juicer, a grater, an egg cracker, a shredder, a can opener, an egg separator, and a measuring cup. You'll never be without a must-have tool again!

a measuring cup with other gadgets stacked on top of it as well as a bottle top that's actually a funnel, making the entire product look like a colorful plastic bottle
    Amazon

Promising review: "I highly recommend this product to everybody! It's very convenient and it takes up less space. I just sit it right on the counter and my kitchen and just grab it when I need it. It's ideal for everything — it's perfect!" —jennifer h.

Get it from Amazon for $15.99.

    9. A pastasaurus serving spoon you'll love as much as you loved Jeff Goldblum's character in the original Jurassic Park.

a lime green serving spoon that looks like a dinosaur
    Amazon

Promising review: "Pastasaurus has been my faithful pasta cooking companion since June 2014 and he looks as young as the day I got him. His teeth haven’t dulled and his color is still vibrant. I love being greeted by his toothy grin at meal times. We’ve boiled through a lot of pasta together too. Penne, rigatoni, fusilli, vermicelli — you name it, we’ve boiled it. We’ve also splashed through a rainbow of sauces, tomato based, cream based, oil based, and he cleans up very well every time. Bonus, he’s a great hiding spot for Easter eggs!" —J.G.

Get it from Amazon for $12.78.

    10. A picture-perfect Kate Spade kettle you'll probs want to display on the counter because it's just SO pretty!

    Amazon

It even says "whistle while you work" on the spout! I dieeeee for this kettle.

Promising review: "This is such a cute centerpiece for my stove top. Not to mention it works great! Love that the whistler is soft and not overly loud. You have to be careful as the handle gets hot." —Kar22

Get it from Amazon for $44.99+ (available in seven styles).

    11. A cutting board and strainer combo, because who wouldn't appreciate a two-in-one item that'll save 'em room in their kitchen?

a white cutting board with red accents and a strainer set on one side of it to place over the sink for drainage
    Amazon

Promising review: "This is one of my favorite things I have purchased for our tiny apartment! It's a pretty good size cutting board and I can see it fitting over most sinks. I LOVE the bowl inside that can let wet ingredients drain liquid directly into the sink. It's seriously SO nice to have this when you're limited on counter space!" —Atara

Get it from Amazon for $19.99 (available in two colors).

    12. A pack of super-strong magnets you can attach to the top of your fridge to ensure your drink of choice is *always* refreshingly cold without taking up space for leftovers.

    amazon.com, kickstarter.com

Promising review: "Of all the things I have bought that I didn't need, this is one of my favorites. Beer is hard to get out of the cardboard carrier in the top of my fridge. While just taking them out and sitting them on the shelf would have solved this problem as well. This solution is more fun. They float and technically it does make a tiny bit of extra space under the beer for small things like cheese or something." —AbbyValentine

Get a set of two strips (six magnets) from Amazon for $29.99.

    13. A Cuisinart Griddler, so you can make mouthwatering burgers all year long whether it's 20 or 90 degrees outside.

    amazon.com, Amazon

Using this lil' grill is so simple! Throw your meat on, close the top, and BOOM — dinner is served. I've been using one for years and it's wonderful for making grilled chicken, burgers, grilled veggies, and paninis.

Promising review: "Excellent addition to our kitchen. Good build quality, You can use this for a lot of different food but it is great for grilled cheese sandwiches. The griddle works good on pancakes and has plenty of heat to do the job. Easy and quick to clean." —Jazzperk

Get it from Amazon for $69.97.

    14. A Mr. Coffee drip coffee machine that'll ensure a classic, delicious cup o' joe will always be within arm's reach.

a buzzfeed editor standing next to their mr. coffee machine
    Rachel Dunkel / BuzzFeed

BuzzFeed writer Rachel Dunkel has been *raving* about this coffee machine:

"I'll admit, I can be prone to coffee snobbery now and again. I have just about every appliance, tool, and gadget to make coffee this way and that, but there's one I always come back to — the Mr. Coffee. My dad has used a Mr. Coffee basically every morning since the beginning of time, so when I got my first apartment — finally free of the "no cooking appliances" rule ubiquitous to college dorm life — of COURSE I bought the cheapest 12-Cup Mr. Coffee drip pot I could find. That same pot has been with me ever since (for over six years!), quickly brewing up cup after steaming cup of coffee for my roommates, friends, and me, never failing to make my morning and little better. It has also survived many, many moves while packed in pretty precarious boxes. TL;DR: it's also durable."

Get it from Amazon for $25.99 (only available in white).

    15. A mini fridge/freezer with a retro vibe you can use to carefully recreate Rachael Ray's kitchen (without fully committing to a full-sized version).

a red mini fridge and freezer
    galanzamericas / Via instagram.com

I have one of these adorable lil' fridges and it's as functional as it is cute! The freezer is DEEP — like fits-an-entire-ice-cream-cake deep.

Promising review: "I absolutely adore this retro mini fridge! The handles make me think back to my grandma's fridge. It's a 3.1 cubic foot which makes an excellent side storage. It has controls just like a regular fridge. I was amazed at how much I could get in it, truly roomy! I keep extras in it, water, drinks, and beer or wine. The freezer it holds enough of overflow items. It's electric so I thought it would run my light bill up but to my surprise, nope!!" —KitM04

Get it from Macy's for $219.09 (originally $312.99, available in two styles).

    16. A handheld soap dispensing brush that might just make you want to clean your dishes — it looks kinda fun, doesn't it?

someone scubbing a soapy pan with the dish soap-filled brush that fits in their palm
    oxo / Via instagram.com

Promising review: "I'm loving this little brush. I had purchased another dish brush a while back from the grocery store and the bristles were so stiff that it often splattered soap everywhere. This one isn't like that. The bristles are stiff, but soft enough that they tend to cling to what you're brushing, so they don't cause that splatter effect. I also like that you can open the whole thing up by taking its top off to refill it, giving you plenty of room to pour in the dish soap. The ability to easily remove and replace the brush is another very handy feature. Both are easy to do and it's well made, so they're not likely to come open or undone unexpectedly." —Elliria

Get it from Amazon for $6.99.

    17. A five-in-one wine aerator, stopper, pourer, filter, and re-corker that'll become your most prized possession — what chef wouldn't enjoy sipping on some vino while they (or while watching someone else) cook?

    Amazon

Promising review: "YOU NEED THIS! I love this wine corker. These do exactly as they say they will. When I got mine, I immediately took one out, put it on a bottle of wine and purposefully turned it upside down, shook it and let it sit that way for 10 minutes. NO LEAKS! I was so happy...finally something to keep my wine from leaking. Not only did it not leak, but the aerator design allowed my wine to taste wonderful and stay fresh." —Mary B

Get it from Amazon for $9.38.

    18. A selfie ring light so you can stream on Instagram Live and have perfect lighting while showcasing the delicious recipe you just created.

a white circle slipped over the top of a fun surrounded by tiny lights
    elf Cosmetics

Promising review: "I do drag, cosplay, natural, and full glam makeup very often on myself and others. Taking pics in various places with various lighting can be a pain in the butt, but this ring light has three settings of light brightness. It's super helpful!" —pairofcds

Get it from e.l.f. Cosmetics for $12.

    19. Rubbermaid FreshWorks storage containers with venting technology to help keep your produce fresher for longer — no more reaching for your must-include ingredients only to discover they've gotten soggy.

    Natalie Brown / BuzzFeed, Amazon

The vents regulate the flow of oxygen and carbon dioxide and keeps moisture away so your strawberries taste freshly-picked days and days and days later. I recently got a couple of these and a bunch of basil and strawberries stayed fresh for SO LONG!!

Promising review: "I read the reviews and thought I’d give these a try since they here easily half the price of the other ones I looked at that had to have the charcoal filters replaced periodically. These need no filter changes and oh-my-gosh, they work! I went on a 10-day trip to visit my mom and left my husband home with asparagus, strawberries, and spinach in the containers. He ate some of all of them, but there was plenty left when I got back and they were in perfect condition! I couldn’t believe it! These will save us a lot of money not throwing away food because we couldn’t get through it fast enough. (We shop at Costco and get large containers of produce.) These are TOTALLY worth getting and I will be getting a few more sizes. Excellent product!!!" —Elizabeth Walter

Like many of you, I've been trying all kinds of new things while spending time social distancing over the last few weeks. My latest challenge? Making my own corn tortillas. Except, thanks to a handy lil' tortilla press from Verve Culture, it wasn't much of a challenge at all. The press is made in Mexico from old Singer sewing machines and other recycled irons! The cast-iron should last you, basically, forever so it's definitely worth your money. I still can't believe how easy they were to make! We used Maseca's corn flour (the bag has instructions on the back how to make the tortillas) and it was so simple. They came out *so* well I was beyond impressed with myself.

It does everything I need it to do including lighting candles that have burned too far down to reach with a match. (Although I know that's not its intent at all.) Unfortunately it doesn't arrive with butane; but once you fill it, it lasts a pretty long time!" —Vero

Get it from Amazon for $20.99.

    26. A robot vacuum to clean your kitchen for you when you accidentally empty half a bag of flour onto the floor instead of the mixing bowl.

Bed Bath and Beyond, Paul Braga

I recently got the Neato Botvac D7 and it has become a treasured possession for me and my husband. I don't know if it's just because we're home *all* the time or because we love it that much but we definitely treat it like our pet. You're instructed to give the vacuum a name (ours is Kevin) and can then set it to clean on specific days/times. It's super efficient and has done a great job cleaning hard-to-reach spots — and it'll send a notification to your phone if it gets stuck (see above). Good boy, Kevin.

two of the cast-iron pans side by side to show case the flat side and the ribbed grill side
    Sur La Table

Promising review: "I've had this griddle for a couple weeks now and have been very pleased with it. I've used it to make pancakes stove-top, steaks on the gas grill, as well as eggs and potato hash. With just a light rub of oil prior to cooking I haven't had any problems with food sticking, it performs beautifully. It is a hefty piece of cookware though and one should use care moving it around to avoid personal injury or damage to things like glass stove tops. Be patient getting it up to temp, all the cast-iron soaks up a lot of heat before it's ready to go." —Brian L

Get it from Sur la Table for $68.95

    28. A French press to help you create the perfect cup of coffee in your own kitchen *and* help you save some dollars while cutting back on morning Starbucks runs.

a glass cannister with a spout, a handle, and a press on the top
    Amazon

Promising review: "Loving my Bodum coffee press! I wish I would have found it sooner. Makes great coffee with no sediment. It is made of borosilicate glass made to withstand the high heat of the water and daily usage. If it were thicker it would break too easily. Clean up is a breeze. I add just a bit of water to the carafe after I remove it from the frame and pour into a strainer over the sink. Rinse with water and then dispose of the grounds in the garbage. Then wash by hand, remove and wash plunger ( screen, coil press, etc), dry all pieces except screen and put back together. Takes about three minutes or so. Ready for next use. And looks so pretty on the counter and while brewing." —Rene M Garcia

I saw Claire Saffitz use this bad boy in an episode of Gourmet Makes while making a replica of Ben and Jerry's ice cream — there is *no* comparison. It's an expensive item but one you'll definitely get a lot of use out of in the long run.

Promising review: "We read an article in Sunset Magazine about The Best Ice Cream Makers, and they rated this as the BEST! We decided to splurge and couldn't be happier! We made a few of the recipes that came with it and all were good, however we have since gone VEGAN! We now make THE BEST Vegan Ice Cream with coconut milk or almond milk! It's so nice not having to deal with ice and salt like our old machine, or with having to remember to pre-freeze something that never really works! With this machine, you can decide you want yummy ice cream in an hour or so, put the ingredients in, push the button and wait for the 'Ice Cream Man' song to play and ENJOY! We highly recommend this product!" —Kimberli

Good luck keeping all these fun gadgets out of your roomie's grubby little chef paws.
