It's Been 10 Years Since Tina Fey And Amy Poehler's First "Weekend Update"

Oct. 2, 2004, was the first time two females co-anchored the SNL segment, and, in honor of the anniversary of that special night, let's relive what happened.

After Jimmy Fallon left, Amy Poehler was brought on to co-host "Weekend Update" with Tina Fey.

And it was awesome from the very first time they sat behind that famous SNL desk together.

Fey started making jokes about the 2004 presidential debate between Sen. John Kerry and President Bush.

And Poehler jumped in adding some light commentary on Kerry's politics.

She was SO proud of her first joke. But Fey was ever prouder!

They cheered together, and it was adorable.

Their first guest was none other than Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini)!*

*Or, as they put it, an unnamed New Jersey resident who was there to speak about former Gov. McGreevey.

And Tony just loved Poehler.

From Britney Spears' pregnancy announcement to a speaking Donald Trump doll, Poehler and Fey went back and forth telling jokes like they'd been doing it for years.

And Fey wasn't afraid to get brutally honest.

Like, by comparing Fallon's decision to leave the show to a man who convinced his wife to undergo fertility surgery only so he could then have the doctor take out and sell her kidney while she was unconscious.

Fey also wasn't afraid to get a little creepy.

But in a loving way, of course!

Then, Ben Affleck — who was hosting that night — showed up to tell Poehler how great she was doing.

And to address Matt Damon's comments about actors who only take roles in potential blockbusters:

At one point, Poehler appeared to have gone off the cue cards.

And Fey found her hysterical.

But not everyone was so happy to see Poehler on "Weekend Update," like Sir Elton John (Horatio Sanz), for example.

And she had some thoughts as to why.

Basically, they had a blast the entire time. And continued to do so for the next two years.
