    1. Red Wing Iron Ranger Boots you'll have to break in a little and take care of, but will last you for what feels like eons.

    As my colleague John Mihaly says: "Red Wings never die."

    Promising review: "I love these boots. They look great, last forever, and get really comfortable after a pretty lengthy break-in period. Buy these, buy some leather oil, wear some thick Smartwools and they will feel good after a couple months then great after a year." —topher

    Get them from Amazon for $299+ (four colors, men's sizes 7–13 with wide in some sizes).

    2. L.L.Bean Boots will be in for the long haul and can be resoled at a location (for a "reasonable" fee) — basically the definition of an investment!

    @llbean / Via

    Check out more info on resoling and repairs.

    Promising review: "My husband has the same boots and he's worn them for 10 years so far. Just took them back to Bean to have them resoled (so they can last another 10 years!). That convinced me to buy myself a pair, wore them through a hurricane and several rainy days so far, and I've only had them for two weeks. They are waterproof and comfortable, I have no problem wearing them all day. Much better than my Hunter rain boots." —hannabean

    Get them from L.L.Bean: women's for $139 (two color combos, sizes 5–11, three widths) and men's for $139 (sizes 7–14, three widths)

    3. Adidas Pool Slides can make it through everyday tasks and tropical vacays — as long as you remember to bring them back home with you! Keys, phone, pool slides.🌴

    Promising review: "These are my fourth pair. And for good reason. Classic Adidas soccer flip-flop with a punch of summer color. They are great for the beach, boat, walking around town or going to class. I wear them with or without socks and there is nothing bad to say about them. Been wearing them for 20 years. I had one pair that lasted 13 years and I forgot them in Puerto Vallarta 🙃" —Amazon Customer

    Get them from Amazon for $16.18+ (12 colors combos, men's sizes 3–15). AND these are available through Prime Wardrobe so you can try on options if you have the service.

    4. Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars might just be the biggest consensus on washable footwear from dads who are 100% utility/0% style and folks who live and breathe for sneaker drops. (My dad falls into the first category.)

    @converse / Via

    There are also lots and lots of ~special~ styles that drop throughout the year. If collabs and special editions appeal to you, check out the official Converse site for availability. If you're into the go-tos at a cheaper price, Amazon has what you need.

    Promising review: "I ordered half a size smaller due to the reviews saying that they were a little bit on the large side, still a little large but a decent enough fit not to be a big issue

    So just wanted to update this review with some additional info, after owning these for two years they finally gave out. I didn't come close to wearing through the soles of the shoes, in fact, I accidentally ripped the eyelet for the shoelace when tying them so for the price I paid I got a great pair of shoes that lasted me two years." —Hunter E. Beach

    Get them from Amazon: high tops for $23.01+ (28 color combos, men's sizes 3.5–17) or low tops for $22.56+ (33 color combos, men's sizes 3–13)

    And check out our picks for the best everyday sneakers on BuzzFeed Reviews!

    5. Hunter Rain Boots are meant to stand the test of time through all kinds of tasks, like dragging yourself to class in rainy weather, trudging through muddy fields at a music festival, important things!

    @hunterboots / Via

    Promising review: "I bought these because my last ones were worn out. 8 years old!! A quality product!!" —B.K. McGuire

    Get them from Amazon: Original Tall Rain Boots for $49.99+ (45 colors, sizes 5–13), Original Chelsea Boots for $68.49+ (six colors, sizes 5–11), or Original Tall Snow Boots for $46.60+ (three colors, 5–10)

    6. Teva Universal Sandals will give your toes some wiggle room as you scramble around on rocky terrain or across a city crosswalk when you're about to lose the light.

    Promising review: "I followed the advice of other reviewers and ordered a 1/2 size down. I normally wear 8.5 and purchased an 8. They fit well. The footbed is textured and somewhat rough, as someone mentioned, but it keeps me from slipping while wearing them. It's not uncomfortable, and I'm sure I'll get used to it. The sandals are comfortable right out of the box. I wore my last pair for many years and hope this pair will last as long." —Katherine Torrey

    Get them from Amazon: women's for $39.07+ (four color combos, sizes 5–11) or men's for $27.39+ (18 color combos, sizes 7–14)

    7. Adidas Stan Smiths can go with just about anything and anyone's personal style! Gotta love some ~versatility~.

    Promising review: "I have been wearing the Stan Smith style of Adidas for more than 35 years. They are the best-fitting, longest lasting, most comfortable shoe I have ever owned. It's also the only shoe I have ever bought that I can get the same size each and every time and have it fit right without endless trying on of shoes. I recommend these shoes for EVERYONE... and even more so if you walk on the outsides of your feet [these shoes prevent that]." —Wendi

    Get them from Amazon for $28.91+ (21 color combos, men's sizes 4–15).

    8. Dr. Martens Combat Boots – you should probably convince all your loved ones to buy some. (I practice what I preach! I've recently convinced two friends to buy them!)

    @drmartensofficial / Via

    Promising review: "My daughter's such a fan of these she has four pairs (hot pink, turquoise, red, black). She's worn them extensively at work where she's constantly on her feet, and doesn't end up in pain. They seem to last forever, given that the black pair's a hand-me-down from me, which I bought years ago and they're still going strong. She'd buy several more pairs if budget allowed. They aren't cheap, but are worth the money because of the durability and versatility, being able to wear them with a lot of different outfits. Also, as long as they've been around (and popular), I don't know if they'll ever go out of style. A good buy if you're at all a fan of boots in this design. A note on sizing: for her, they run a little large. Her shoe size is 8.5. In these, 8." —Kindle Customer

    Get them from Amazon: Women's 1460 8-Eye Boot for $111.58+ (17 color combos, sizes 5–11)

    9. Sebago Docksides can work for a day at the beach or going full summer in your footwear choices without making everyone stare at your toes.

    @sebago_world / Via

    Promising review: "Just like my old pair that I wore off and on for 20 years. I do put an arch support insert due to my history of plantar fasciitis. I kept the original insole in place, so my foot sits up a bit higher in the heel. Seems well made, so I'll probably be dead by the time these wear out." —RiledUp

    Get them from Amazon for $48.03+ (27 color combos, various men's sizes).

    10. Frye Engineer Boots (in a variety of styles!) that'll toughen up most any outfit for years and years. And they're *supposed* to look a little weathered.

    @thefryecompany / Via

    Promising review: "Perfect, as all four pairs of Frye boots I own are. For anyone new to the brand, you will need to break them in and it may be a struggle to get them on at first but, you will be rewarded with the best fitting, longest lasting boots ever. These boots especially have a wonderful, almost velvet-like, leather. And you cannot beat that price (I expect to throw down $300 on most Frye boots). Mine were genuine, stamped on the inside as usual. They also shipped Prime. So happy." —Gina N.

    Get them from Amazon: Veronica Engineer (shown) for $78.51+ (24 colors, women's sizes 5.5–11) or Jenna Engineer for $183.36+ (two colors, women's sizes 5.5–11)

    11. Leather Birkenstock Arizona Sandals to deliver a look ~molded~ to your ever-evolving style in a range of strap materials and colorways. (But you also can't deny the classic appeal of a neutral.)

    @birkenstock / Via

    Promising review: "I have virtually lived in Birkenstock sandals for years. I have worn out four pairs and this is my fifth pair. When I first get them they are a little stiff but soon break in and are very comfortable sandals. I wear them year round, putting on socks in the winter. The sandals last for years. After five years I manage to wear down one side of the bottom of the shoe and so have to replace it." —gfgrandmother

    Get them from Amazon for $89.95+ (50+ color combos, various sizes).

    12. New Balance 574s for that classic dad look with extreme comfort, which explains exactly why dads (including mine!) have been opting for them for years.

    @newbalance / Via

    Promising review: "These are some slick-looking, super comfortable kicks! Full disclosure: New Balance is my sneaker brand of choice almost exclusively, but it is because, over the years, I've had many shoes from them just like these ones and have come to appreciate their stylish, comfortable, and versatile footwear. I am in no way affiliated with the company. Couldn't be more pleased with the shoes and given the price paid for this specific size/color, they're a total, 5-star win. Highly recommend!" —NSB

    Get them from Amazon for $14.43+ (32 color combos, men's sizes 6.5–18).

    13. Swedish Hasbeens can satisfy your '70s platform yearnings without having to dig through your parents' attic... and then try to figure out how to make those shoes smell like not-attic.

    Swedish Hasbeens

    Promising review: "Love Hasbeens. They are expensive, but they last forever and are super cute." —Anna mclain

    Get them from Amazon: Lucy Platform Sandals (shown) for $138.96+ (11 colors, women's sizes 5–11) or Cross-Strap Debutant Platform Sandals for $109.99+ (six colors, women's sizes 7–10)

    14. Salt Water Sandals easily clean up and keep your family's old dogs feeling like young pups.

    @saltwatersandals / Via

    Promising review: "We love Salt Waters!!! We have several children and these shoes last forever. They wear well, they're cute, they're comfortable, and they wash easily. I cannot say enough good about these sandals. The only thing our family has not liked about them is there's not much traction on the bottom, which make them not good for climbing! But, I don't think that's what they were made to do, so I don't view it as a complaint but a word of wisdom. Not for rock climbing." —Jared Weichert

    Get them from Amazon for $10.03+ (various colors, adult and kid's sizes).

    15. Danksos, really most any kind of Dankso, have become cult-status clingers because they'll hold onto dear life despite what you put them through.

    FYI, my colleague Rachel Dunkel owns and loves both the Britneys and Malins.

    Promising review: "I wore Danskos as a practicing midwife for 13 of my 23 years catching babies at a busy urban hospital practice. YES they lasted 13 years!! My daughter is 16 and I purchased them when she was 3 years old. I was so upset I had to say goodbye to them after they finally crumbled and DELIGHTED to find these that I have already started wear and expect to wear for at least another 13 years!! You will be happy with your purchase. They are comfortable and supportive at the same time!" —Amazon Customer

    Get them from Amazon: Britney clogs (shown) for $88.45+ (six colors, women's sizes 4.5/5–11.5/12), Malin for $81.46+ (five colors, women's sizes 5.5/6–11.5/12), women's professional clogs for $129.95+ (various colors, women's sizes), and men's professional clogs for $129.95 (various colors, men's sizes).

    16. Vans Classic Slipons with some thicc soles in a variety of color combos. You first bought some back before your first Warped Tour and, tbh, you could wear 'em for like the next 50 years because they're *that* good.

    @vans / Via

    The Vans slipons I bought a decade ago are still going strong and my mom wears them around the house!

    Get them from Vans for $50+ (22 color combos, women's sizes 5–17.5).

    17. Rainbow Sandals are versatile leather flip-flops that'll take all kinds of hard knocks and fit like a glove once you get past the short breaking-in period. Raise your hand if you've accidentally left your friend's house wearing ones that weren't yours. ::raises hand::

    @rainbowsandals / Via

    Lol if I don't still wear the sandals I bought in high school. Plz don't attempt that math.

    Promising review: "These are literally my favorite pair of flip flops/shoes that I’ve ever owned. I’m currently buying my third pair, and that’s not because of them wearing out. I’ve lost a pair, and now a friend mistakenly took my most recent pair out of the country. I miss them so badly that I need to buy another pair. The last pair I bought in November 2014 and now in January 2019, they are still in fantastic condition. Super comfortable after the short 'break-in period.' They also look stylish if you ask me. Can’t wait for my next pair to arrive." —Bradley Gilley

    Get them from Amazon for $48.55+ (eight color combos, various sizes).

    18. Rothy's are incredibly comfy *and* you can throw them in the wash once they get too dirty or stinky. (Yes, even people with sweaty feet swear by these!)

    "Flats you can wash?!" sounds like a total gimmick and you've probably seen the ads on Facebook for them. Welp, they're legit! I can vouch because I own a pair! $125 can see steep for a pair of flats (or pointed-toe flats or loafers or sneakers) BUT with these you can wash them over and over again instead of shelling out money for a new pair each season. They come in ~funkier~ patterns like ^ but solid, classic styles too! (Ahem, pointed-toe black flats!) AND they come in kid's sizes too!

    Get these bowtiful flats from Rothy's for $155 (available in women's sizes 5–12).

    19. Blundstones have what it takes to go with you wherever, whether it's by a campfire or just standing at a show where you're definitely the resident old in the crowd.

    @blundstoneUSA / Via

    BTW, these come highly recommended from my colleague Jennifer Tonti!

    Promising review: "I have owned Blundstone boots for probably 20+ years. I was excited when I saw the boots cut slightly differently for women and immediately bought a pair (my prior pair of Blundstones were at least 10 years old and showing their age). Unfortunately, sizing down from my prior pair was a bad idea and these were too small. Amazon didn't have the size I needed, but I bought them elsewhere and they are wonderful. I love them!" —Angelbis

    Get them from Amazon: women's original high top 1448 for $179+ (two colors, sizes 6–11) or some unisex Lux 550 boots for $139.95+ (17 colors, various sizes)
