Kristen Bell Revealed Her Five-Year-Old Is No Longer In Diapers After People Mom-Shamed Her And Called It "Humiliating"

"I’ve never met a high-schooler who pees their pants all day. It’s going to stop at some point."

In an interview with Today's Parent this week, Kristen Bell opened up about the mom-shaming she experienced after admitting her five-year-old was still in diapers, and revealed her daughter no longer wears them.

During a recent episode of Momsplaining, Kristen shared that five-year-old Delta was still wearing diapers, adding that parents shouldn't be judged based on other people's experiences with their kids.

"My eldest daughter, at 21 months, we merely suggested that she use the toilet in the other room," Kristen said of potty training her 7-year-old, Lincoln. "Never wore a diaper beyond that. We were lying in bed, giggling, my husband and I, like, 'Why does everybody make a big deal out of this potty training? It's so easy! Just tell the kid to use the toilet!'"

However, she admitted their complacency over potty training was mistaken when it came to their youngest daughter, Delta.

"Currently, my youngest is 5 and a half and still in diapers," Kristen said at the time. "Every kid is so different."

At the time, Kristen received some backlash from people who said a five-year-old was too old to be wearing diapers, and she spent some time responding to her critics and supporters on Twitter.

"I don't think it's humiliating if your kid wears diapers late," Kristen said in one tweet. "My 5 year old... is confident and goofy and doesn't see anything about her beautiful unique self [as] something to apologise for."

@maejonesnow I also dont think its humiliating if ur kid wears diapers late. Everyone is different. My 5yr old wouldn't be embarrassed even if she was in diapers during the day! She's confident & goofy & doesn't see anything about her beautiful unique self something to apologize for. Xo

"Kids are all different!" she wrote in another. "You're doing just fine. Love em hard, and let em fly. That's our only job."

@tinymoondreamer @gw_KateGarcia You are NOT a failure! Kids are all different! My husband didnt learn to read until 5th grade!!!! 5TH! And he graduated Magna Cum Laude from UCLA. You're doing just fine. Love em hard, and let em fly. That's our only job xo

Now Kristen has opened up about the mom-shaming she experienced at the time, and revealed it was only "a couple of weeks later" that they eventually pushed Delta "a little farther" and stopped her wearing diapers entirely.

"The Twitterverse was kind of mom-shaming me, which I'm not interested in," she told Today's Parent. "So I kept responding with the same thing: 'Every child is different,' which they are. And yes, I have a five-and-a-half-year-old who still sometimes wets the bed and that's OK! But she's getting there."

She went on to explain that she and her husband Dax have worked on the issue by waking Delta up to use the toilet at around 11pm.

"I think it’s really normal and no one should feel ashamed if their kid has an irregular pattern for potty training. Sometimes it takes kids until they’re even older than five!" Kristen said. "But I’ve never met a high-schooler who pees their pants all day. It’s going to stop at some point."
