1. One Day At A Time

It deals with so many issues that aren't talked about or addressed on TV, including LGBT stuff like coming out and rejection; racism and immigration; sexism in the workplace; and in general, the patriarchy and how cultural traditions clash with feminism, PTSD, alcoholism, and so much more. It's one of the only shows that can be totally hilarious, and also completely honest and real about issues that everyone faces. Everyone should watch this show! —skailyr
2. Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries

5. Crazyhead

It is a really solid show! Demon hunting wrapped up in a show about a twenty-something girl dealing with mental illness. It's got funny moments, and is nostalgic for those of us who grew up on Buffy and Charmed. —monirotten88
6. The Get Down

8. Broadchurch

Season three just started airing in the US on BBC America, but the first two are on Netflix. It's hands down the best crime drama I've ever seen, and I've watched both seasons at least twice. David Tennant and Olivia Colman are absolutely fabulous! —lauryny
9. Bomb Girls

It's a Canadian historical drama set during World War II highlighting the struggles of women working in a predominantly male controlled bomb factory. The writing is fantastic and it has one of the best lesbian characters I've ever seen on TV. —addisonm4bba0a519
10. Lie To Me

It's about this practice run by Dr. Lightman who studies micro-expressions. It's a bit like Sherlock, but the show is actually based off of a real place in California. I love it! —leahmeganw

13. Hemlock Grove

It's such a dark, twisted story unlike anything I've ever seen, and the acting is incredible. It truly deserves more recognition. I love all things supernatural and this was such a different take on vampires and werewolves from what I'd seen before, it's one of my all time favorite shows. —jazminm3
14. The OA

Some parts of the show made me emotional to the point of crying and they weren't even sad, just so absolutely stunning. Give it a watch! The first episode is really long since it's an introductory sort of thing, but it's worth spending time on.
15. iZombie

I have to admit, I was hesitant to start it because I thought it would be a typical cheesy zombie show, and in some ways it is, but there's such a fun and unique take on it. The main character is a zombie and works in the medical examiner's office and works with the police solving crimes. 16. Bates Motel

17. Chewing Gum

It's a British import (Netflix exclusive), and it is vibrant, warm, hilarious, and awkward AF. Michaela Coel (creator and star of the show) plays a young woman living on the estate with her religious mother and sister. One day, she decides that she needs to have sex (without getting caught by her mom and sister, natch), and fourth wall breaking hijinks and cringe-inducing sexploits ensue.
