I agree with the original wording. They were only trying to humanize her. I feel that instead of demeaning her accomplishments, it only made them more impressive, that she was able to be a "supermom."
It's not like they're advocating that you TRICK "the poor" into eating it. Of COURSE it is better for edible food to go towards preventing starvation than to be thrown away and allowed to rot.
