23 TV Shows So Terrifying You'll Be Sleeping With The Light On

If you need me I'll be locked in my room bingeing all of these for the next few weeks.

We recently asked the BuzzFeed Community what they think the best TV series are for people who love horror movies. Here are their spooky suggestions:

    1. Channel Zero (2016-2018)

    Syfy

"Channel Zero. Each season is based on a popular Creepypasta. Season 2 in particular is even better than the source material and I still watch it to go through the different layers of symbolism and meaning. A well-made show that suffered a premature end."

    omgshutup

    2. Twin Peaks (1990-1991 and 2017)

    ABC

"It doesn’t get enough credit. Most people think it’s just a murder mystery but it’s so much more and it’s creepy as hell!"

    kristine1318

    3. The Haunting of Hill House (2018)

    Netflix

"It’s more than just a horror show – the story of the family is so beautiful and sad. Every episode keeps you curious about what happened and it’s a type of horror that feels very real."

    sara11946

    4. Harper's Island (2009)

    CBS

"It's the perfect 2000s slasher/whodunnit series with plenty of twists, an interesting story, and a solid ending. It's only 13 episodes, but it's a must watch for anyone who enjoys the genre."

    mrgille

    5. Santa Clarita Diet (2017-2019)

    Netflix

"It's more of a horror comedy but it still has its moments! It really puts a unique spin on the whole zombie genre."

    madimorehart

    6. Hemlock Grove (2013-2015)

    Netflix

"It's so so good! Creepy with twists and turns. Where I fell in love with Bill Skarsgård before he was Pennywise the clown :)"

    c45e39a610

    7. Salem (2014-2017)

    WGN

"Soooo creepy and good. The cinematography and design is MAGNIFICENT. Unfortunately it was cancelled, so the last season – while it does wrap the storyline up – is definitely rushed (but still worth it)!"

    stephanies4a8396e0a

    8. American Horror Story (2011-Present)

    FX

"Besides the blood and gore, it tells a crazy story over each season with so many eerie twists and turns."

    brittanys4e461f149

    9. Hannibal (2013-2015)

    NBC

"Holy shit it is a dark show. It's pre-Silence of the Lambs Hannibal Lecter. There is gore, suspense, and serial killers. What else could you want?"

    gigie4a880353a

    10. Scream (2015-Present)

    MTV

"It was on for a few seasons on MTV, has been off the air for a couple years, but appears to be coming back for a new season! It’s based on the Scream movie franchise and is creepy, scary, and a ton of fun!"

    carat436a86d05

    11. Penny Dreadful (2014-2016)

    Showtime

"It's spooky, it's terrifying, it's sexy. The cinematography is incredible and the production value is insane. Plus, Josh Hartnett! What's not to love?"

    lesliee40850fcd9

    12. Supernatural (2005-Present)

    TNT

"Especially if you like to really get involved in something. If you cry when a book series ends, this show is for you. Lots to love and it is also very funny."

    christa7

    13. The Twilight Zone (1959-1964)

    CBS

"IMO, the best horror TV series is The Twilight Zone. You don’t need gore to be scared or to get the chills. The first episode I saw was 'After Hours' with the creepy mannequins. I still get the chills watching that episode."

    honeybrunette09

    14. Black Mirror (2011-Present)

    Zeppotron

"Nearly every episode has the 'It could happen one day' vibe and that makes my blood run cold."

    leannetillyk

    15. Mind Hunter (2017-Present)

    Netflix

"I know it's not technically a horror TV show, but a lot of the things the serial killers do are quite gruesome if you're in to that kind of thing. I love this show and it's based on true events."

    jackyourking2003

    16. The Exorcist (2016-2017)

    Fox

"The acting, character development, and plot were amazing! I will forever be mad that there will be no new seasons in the near future."

    blaire4

    17. Slasher (2016-Present)

    Netflix

"It’s kind of like American Horror Story in that every season is unrelated, although both seasons so far are about serial killers. There are gruesome deaths and crazy plot twists. A new season is coming out soon too."

    macyk4dd8d8848

    18. Bates Motel (2013-2017)

    AE

"Chilling and unsettling and it just gets better as time goes on. Creepy without relying on jump scares or gore. I was hooked instantly!"

    eeoo

    19. Requiem (2018)

    Netflix

"It’s a Welsh show about a creepy old mansion with ghosts, people being possessed, and death!"

    roken

    20. Ash vs Evil Dead (2015-2018)

    Starz

    "Probably the best horror-comedy ever."

    cruxley

    21. Chambers (2019-Present)

    Netflix

"New on Netflix – it's incredible. Jumpy and tense but so gripping and a little bit gory."

    rosiem4624082c6

    22. Tales from the Crypt (1989-1996)

    HBO

"Tales from the Crypt. It's funny, gory, and the crypt keeper's puns are always entertaining."

    adamjunrein

    23. Black Summer (2019-Present)

    Netflix

"Black Summer on Netflix is a new and surprising favorite. It's fast-paced, bloody, and nobody is safe. All around a great departure from predictable zombie shows of the past."
