In case you haven't heard of it yet, Asteroid City is the next aesthetically pleasing, quirky film from filmmaker Wes Anderson — best known for The Grand Budapest Hotel, Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, and a bunch of other cute and charming films.
And if you don't spend a million minutes a day on TikTok like ~some of us~ do, you should know there's been a popular Wes Anderson trend circulating on the app for over a month.
The trend basically has people romanticizing simple, everyday life by emulating Wes Anderson's film style in their TikTok videos — i.e., making shots symmetrical, using specific color palettes, and, of course, setting it all to a song from Anderson's last film, The French Dispatch.
The video opens with, of course, the trend's opening joke line:
Then we get a shot of Scarlett Johansson simply putting on some headphones.
Rupert Friend leans into Maya Hawke for a quirky whisper we are not privy to.
Bryan Cranston makes a serious appearance in a very nice-looking chair.
Then Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, and Jake Ryan time their looks to camera perfectly with the soundtrack.
Steve Park simply pours a glass of water for Jeffrey Wright.
And finally, we get this funny overhead shot of a plant that Jake Ryan holds.
