17 Times Movies Killed Off A Character That Ruined The Entire Film For People

The moments that make you want to leave the theater.

Recently we asked the BuzzFeed community to share a movie character death that ruined the entire film for them. Here were some of the submissions!

1. Finnick from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2

Lionsgate Films

"Why did he have to die? He just got married. He didn't deserve that death. The movie kinda got boring for me after we lost him."

"He was such an amazing character with an awesome arc and he had a wife AND a baby back at home. He was always my favorite in the books and the movies, and his death was unnecessary!"

2. Rachel in The Dark Knight

Warner Bros. Pictures

"She was the character I felt most emotionally attached to, and you could see how much she inspired and cared for the people around her. No matter how many times I watch the movie, it always rips me apart."

3. Loki in Avengers: Infinity War

"It's some of the most poor, illogical writing in the whole MCU. I'm not even a Loki fangirl, it was just terrible writing."

4. Black Widow in Avengers: Endgame

"The rest of the movie was definitely missing something. Especially in the scene with all the women characters, and the first woman of Marvel wasn’t there."

5. Tadashi in Big Hero 6

"Aside from Baymax, Tadashi was the only other character that I enjoyed, and it made me less invested in the film."

6. Donna in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again

Universal Pictures

"My friends took me to a sing-along version and I didn't know much about the plot, other than that it contained a lot of flashbacks. When the film reveals Donna is dead, I was mortified. Cried for pretty much the entire film. As for singing along? They could go **** themselves."

7. Bill Murray in Zombieland

Sony Pictures Releasing

"That visceral reaction was unexpected and still haunts me. I stopped watching and have never seen the ending. Who cares about a world without Bill Murray?"

8. The cat in The Shape of Water

Fox Searchlight Pictures

"I wasn’t expecting it at all. I thought I was going to watch a fantasy romance but that scene was like something out of a horror movie. I almost lost my cat shortly before and that just made it worse. It was like a switch flipped and I instantly lost interest in the rest of the movie."

9. Six in 6 Underground

"I watched the beginning of 6 Underground and lost interest immediately after Dave Franco’s character died. It was so sudden and brutal for such an awesome actor. Waste of a talent."

10. General Hux in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

"As soon as Hux died, I wanted to walk out. I knew it was coming, but I thought he’d get a better story arc than that. They did him so dirty."

11. Kylo Ren/Ben Solo in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

"It happens so close to the end, but it was so anticlimactic that it invalidated the sacrifices of the original trilogy characters. It just felt like a cheap rehash of the end of Return of the Jedi. I didn’t care how the rest of the movie ended at all after that."

12. Mako Mori in Pacific Rim: Uprising

Universal Pictures

"I was so excited for the sequel because the original movie is amazing, and Mako was my favorite character. I was beyond furious when I found out they killed her off in Uprising. At least I found out before I actually got around to watching the movie, so I didn't end up wasting my time."

13. Rosie in Jojo Rabbit

Fox Searchlight Pictures

"I had to leave and cry in bed. I only watch that movie up to before he finds his mother dead, then I make up my own ending."

14. Mystique in Dark Phoenix

20th Century Fox

"I could not care less about the ending once they killed Mystique. That was not the way to kill such an iconic character. Her death was senseless. She should’ve died in a more iconic way. Instead, it feels like it was wasted because of bad storytelling."

15. David Dunn in Glass

Universal Pictures

"It was so ridiculous."

16. Duke in G.I. Joe: Retaliation

Paramount Pictures

"Channing Tatum played the protagonist in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and they killed him off in the sequel to replace him with The Rock."

17. Howard in Uncut Gems

"I know it’s at the end of the movie, but I had my hands over my face for like 10 minutes after it. I can't tell if I love this movie, or if the ending ruined the whole thing."
