31 Stain-Lifting Products That'll Make You Feel Like A Cleaning Wizard

You'll be tempted to quit your day job and become a magician once you see how miraculous these products are.

    1. A fan-favorite carpet cleaner that'll help you keep your cool the next time the dog/kid/SO makes a mess on that white rug you insisted on getting. Don't worry, it'll make stains and regret vanish!

Promising review: "This stuff is AMAZING. We have a 1.5-year-old puppy and have make several futile attempts to clean up carpet stains from her potty training days. Another dog owner clued us into this, and we cannot believe we didn't buy it sooner. Seriously, the same night this arrived, I spilled an entire bottle of beer on white carpet (oops), grabbed the Folex, sprayed a bunch onto the stain, massaged it into the carpet with my finger tips, and blotted with a damp towel. You can't see ANY remnant of a stain. I've also attacked old stains (like one-plus year old) and saw the same results. Seriously, buy this!!!" —AKM

Get it from Amazon for $9.45.

    2. Or, a bottle of Resolve carpet cleaner you should definitely try out before ripping up and replacing all of your caca-coated rugs. Take that, pet stains!

My BuzzFeed Shopping colleague Stephanie Hope loves this stuff: "I'm convinced it's actually just a bottle of magic. This has been able to get even the oldest stains out of our carpets, but also works great at cleaning up the CONSTANT hairballs my cats leave around."

Promising review: "I don't know jack about cleaning. I keep my place in decent condition, but I had some nasty stains in the carpet that I never thought I would get rid of. We're talking baked in 6- to 7-year-old stains, especially near the shoe mat near the door. I bought this and sprayed it on there, and just let it sit all day. And the stains are pretty much gone. It's incredible. I'm often skeptical of cleaners, mostly because I think the majority of them can't clean anything that isn't only a few days old. But this literally destroyed a stain a half dozen YEARS old that I thought was going to be there until the carpet was replaced. I've used Resolve before, too, but there's something about this specific mix where it just annihilates stains. Needless to say, for the rest of the minor stains in the house they didn't even stand a chance. Can't beat this stuff. 10/10 recommended." —Brandon T.

Get it from Amazon for $6.78.

    3. Or! A pack of stain-removing pads to keep you from crying every time your beloved pup decides your new carpet is the best place to pee. They work on wet and dry stains, and all you have to do is plop 'em down, stomp, and let the magic happen. No more scrubbing!

They're also great for things like wine, mud, coffee, blood, and juice.

Promising review: "WOW! Honestly, I was a little skeptical of the promise of these pads, but I bought them just to try out. THEY WORKED AMAZINGLY WELL! Seriously. I have some stains that are 1.5–2 years old. I've tried everything to get them out. I put these pads on the stains (two to cover the spot), let sit for about an hour, pulled them up, and the stain was gone. I truly couldn't believe it. The pad was yellow. Somehow the old urine was soaked up into the pad. My carpet looks like new. I couldn't recommend these any higher for what I wanted and what I got. Wish I could give this more than five stars." —Matt

    Britt Ross / BuzzFeed

Upon moving to a new house, I discovered I'd inherited some not-so-well-maintained white bathroom tile, with white grout to match. At least, the grout had been white at one point. Woof. After having heard nothing but raves about The Pink Stuff, I decided to see how well it would work on what has probably been my most trying cleaning task to date. Well, I'm happy to report that after a bit of light scrubbing, The Pink Stuff was able to lift most of the muck off of the grout, revealing a much lighter surface underneath (GIF for proof!). While I think it might take a few more applications for the grout to *dazzle,* I'm super impressed by the difference I was able to see right away, and with not very much elbow grease to boot. I mean, it is white grout, so if it was able to work wonders on that, I can't wait to see what it does for my crusty pots and pans!

Promising review: "After hearing so many people raving about Pink, I finally ordered some. Wow! What a terrific job it does on things like burnt-on oven spills, stains in a shower, cleaning outdoor furniture...it does the annoyingly tough jobs with speed and surprising gentleness. I love this product so much; I've given containers away to family and friends! This stuff is magic!" —Parasol Associates

Promising review: "I’ve tried scrubbing my oven with a baking soda paste but it barely did anything to clean my oven. I had years of baked on grease from baking lasagnas and roasting chickens in my oven that looked like they were seriously here to stay. That is, until I tried this amazing product. I sprayed my oven and left it overnight. The next morning — all of the grease stains just simply wiped off with a paper towel! It was that EASY. I’m pretty sensitive to fumes too and this did not bother me at all. Definitely a new staple in my kitchen." —CupCake

    6. Or, a 100% natural oven scrub, because it's been...how many years of avoiding this dreaded task? It's made of pumice that can cut through tough stains just as well as chemical cleaners, so no unpleasant odors to see (smell?) here.

For best results, absorb the excess liquid, then saturate the spot with the stain remover. Let it sit for one to five minutes, and then blot it out. This product can also be used on hard surfaces to remove latex paint and grease.

Promising review: "When you have anything white in your house and you have a love for red wine THIS PRODUCT IS A MUST! We had a dinner party of about 15 people in our house so I bought five bottles just in case. Someone spilled red wine on our brand-new white couch. I was so mad, but I used this stuff and it was GONE. It didn't just take most of the red wine out — the red wine was GONE! No trace of it at all! I will buy more!" —Amazon Customer

Get it from Amazon for $9.50.

    8. A set-it-and-forget-it multipurpose outdoor cleaner, because your driveway, fence, and patio deserve some attention, too! Those green moss and mildew stains you thought you were stuck with? Nope, no match for this stuff. Spray some on, and then...literally just admire your beautiful "work."

Promising review: "I have a brick patio. When I bought this house it was covered, and I mean covered with moss. A good power wash each spring was never enough to stop the moss from returning, and month after month during the summers was a struggle, man vs plant. I did that for two years, cursing and complaining the whole time. This April I did my spring power wash as usual and immediately treated this patio. It is now going into August and I have not had even a wisp of moss this year — I mean nothing! I would recommend this product without any reservations. When you put it on you may think to yourself that it doesn't look like you really did much. It dries quick and looks the same as it did before, but wow does it do exactly what it says it will do." —PM in NH

Get it from Amazon for $19.94.

    9. A concentrated leather cleaner that'll make your couch look like new, especially if the only way you've cared for it up until now is a quick paper towel swipe every now and then. And it's safe to use on everything from handbags to jackets!

a reviewer's couch cushion half clean and half stained

Promising review: "This stuff is amazing! I knew my couches were dirty but I didn't realize they were this bad off. Prior to switching to Leather Honey I was using leather wipes from another company. Those wipes didn't do much for dirt removal as I am now seeing. The leather is a yellow cream color but the sofas were looking gray. Leather Honey took the dirt right off. I left the solution to soak in for two minutes in the more problematic areas and then wiped it off clean." —Ruby

Get it from Amazon for $16.99+ (available in two sizes).

    10. An eco-friendly hard-water stain remover to give you the crystal-clear shower doors you always wanted but didn't think were actually attainable. Surprise!

Promising review: "We tried everything to get rid of hard water stains and nothing worked. We were getting our house ready to sell and our tub and sink were a mess. We tried this product and it worked immediately, restoring everything to like-new. It was fast and really worked! We even used it to clean our glass stovetop. It was amazing how clean it got things. I have a bad back and have to be careful about scrubbing things and it takes no effort to use. We use it in our new house and love it!" —Bradley

Get it from Amazon for $18.88.

    11. A teeth-whitening pen you'll appreciate having on hand when you're between cleanings and notice those pearly whites are looking a liiittle less than ivory. Apply for just 30 seconds once or twice daily for a smile that's 4–8 times brighter!

You'll get over 20 uses out of each pen!

Promising review: "My teeth have been coffee stained for years. I’ve tried everything to whiten them, lucky I ordered these pens about a month before prom and within two uses I already noticed a huge difference! Unlike whitening strips it doesn’t leave your teeth splotchy and the taste is okay! I totally recommend this product!!!" —Allie

    Get a two-pack from Amazon for $16.99.

    12. A laundry soap bar that might not look like much (aside from its cute pink color), but its stain-lifting powers will knock your socks off (and clean them, too!). Many reviewers also *swear* by this for cleaning makeup brushes/sponges!

Promising review: "When I went on my first solo backpacking trip across Ireland, I only had enough room in my pack for three sets of clothes. I contemplated buying individual packets of laundry detergent, but was glad I decided to go with Zote soap instead. It was easy to carry with me and to use to wash my clothes in the sinks at the hostels I stayed it. This bar will last you forever and made my clothes super clean and smelling nice." —Maryann K.

Get it from Amazon for $4.74.

    13. Or, some stain-removing tablets you can just toss into the washing machine if you don't have time for blotting and scrubbing laundry by hand. And not only do they tackle tough stains like it's their job (I guess it technically is), they also act as fabric softener!

Promising review: "All I can say is, 'Wow!' I was skeptical to use this because I have softened water, and tabs do not dissolve in my washer. But I decided to try it because of all of the positive reviews. I put two tabs in my top load washer and washed a vest that had a nasty sweat ring stain around the collar. I previously soaked the vest for six hours in another whitener, but that stain was still noticeable. After washing it ONE TIME with these tabs, that sweat stain is gone! I am very impressed and will keep these tabs on my Favorites list!" —Miriah

Promising review: "This stuff is really amazing. I was skeptical when I bought it — the house we were renting had a sink that was mounted under the counter and the sealant was black. 🤢 I had tried kitchen spray with bleach and a toothbrush but that did nothing. I applied this gel before bed one night and in the morning that caulk was gleaming white! I’ve used it with success in other places as well. It’s a great tool to have under the sink!" —L. Koch

Get it from Amazon for $13.99.

    16. A bleach-free, no-scrub weekly shower spray you can — as the name says — "wet and forget." Just spray it on, let it sit overnight, and wipe it off the next day for a stain-free shower — no intense arm exercise required.

Promising review: "We cannot BEGIN to tell you what a lifesaver this is! We have two old fiberglass tubs with vinyl shower enclosures that no matter what amount of scrubbing we have done with everything from bleach to cleanser to vinegar and baking soda would NOT come clean. After I took my shower last night, I sprayed down the tub and walls. Within minutes, all the built-up water deposits and dirt and grime began to melt away in front of my eyes. I left it on overnight, and when I got up this morning, it did not look like the same tub and shower. This product is a godsend, especially for old folks like us who have difficulty getting down on our hands and knees and scrubbing anything. More importantly, it performs as advertised. We plan on using it as part of our weekly cleanup routine, in addition to purchasing the Wet and Forget Mold and Mildew Remover for use on the vinyl siding of our house. This is truly an overnight sensation!" —Amazon Customer

Promising review: "I bought the smallest bottle because I wasn't sure how good of a stain remover this product was, but I have to say that this little bottle of stain remover works like magic. I used it to take old dog urine stains off my white carpet, and it worked! What a surprise. I also took some other old, dark stains off the carpet with it that didn't come off with other carpet cleaners. It works better than any of the other carpet cleaners that I have used, and now I will be trying it on some other items that are stained. I can't say enough good things about this product." —Diane Merritts

Based in Austin, Texas, Puracy was started by two best friends with the aim of making plant-based cleaning products that are gentle enough to use around children.

Promising review: "With a little one, a dog, and an outdoor-loving family, I am constantly doing laundry. I have tried other natural stain removers and none really do the job. They get out some stains, or need to be washed within 15 minutes and retreated, which isn't always a reality in our home. This, however, is amazing! I haven't met a stain this can't handle! It has to soak for a long time, which makes laundry easy and allows for flexibility. Also, it has no odor, no residue, no damage to clothes. It is amazingly easy to use and does an amazing job. I have gifted this to a few friends with babies just because it really is that good!" —Trixie L

Get it from Puracy on Amazon for $9.99+ (available in two sizes).

    20. A box of bottle cleaning tablets if you're looking for a nearly hands-off solution for getting rid of those gross coffee stains for good. Simply fill your water bottle with warm water, drop in a tablet, let it fizz for 15 to 30 minutes, rinse, and presto!

Check out what BuzzFeed Shopping Editor Maitland Quitmeyer had to say about this product in her full write-up on Bottle Bright.

Promising review: "Despite being diligent and rinsing my bottles out, they do tend to accumulate funky color, slight odor, etc. and generally just get gunkier over time. I heated up a pot of water, filled a few bottles, dropped one of these into each, and 15 minutes later most were sparkling clean, good as new. A few of the worst needed to be left a few hours/overnight, but in every case these pills worked magic. I also tried one just for kicks on my stainless steel lined coffee pot, over five years of daily use with filtered water, monthly descaling process, etc. but still showing browning inside, and one pill cleared all the stains away." —Amazon Customer

    Need a drill? Here's one.

Promising review: "Bought these on a whim and was skeptical if they would really help, but man am I glad I did! They made cleaning our glass shower door and fiberglass shower a breeze! Don't really want to admit how long it had been between cleanings, but the shower shined like it never had before (even with using tough elbow grease and a standard bristle brush). No issues with the brushes leaving marks, but definitely want to err on the side of caution on how long you stay in a spot. Used the large flat circular brush for the door and walls, and the round toilet bowl type brush worked great in the corners and on fixtures." —Molly

BuzzFeed Shopping editor Natalie Brown is a fan of this: "I'm obsessed! This thing works small miracles: I cleaned about half of my bathroom's grout to its original sparkling-clean cream color in 40 minutes, and it took honestly no effort at all. And — as if easy, sparkling grout wasn't enough! — it busted through some serious soap-scum buildup in my bathtub (thanks, fancy soap and slow-draining tub) in less than a minute.

Honestly, when I first tried the scrubber out, I didn't see too many uses for it other than for grout. But after owning it for a while, I've realized that while I don't need it every single week, it's priceless for the occasions I encounter tough gunk that I'd otherwise only conquer with excessive patience and elbow grease."

Promising review: “I never write reviews but I'm writing one for this amazing spray!! I know what you're thinking, I thought the same: that's an awful lot to pay for a bottle of spray cleaner. I get it, and it's worth every penny!!! I have two large dogs who are potty-trained, however my niece accidentally shut them in one of the spare rooms while we were upstairs (bless her tiny heart) so they took it upon themselves to hate-pee allllll over the carpet in there!! When we finally took a black light to the carpet, we discovered the true horror of our situation; CSI crime scenes had nothing on us! We tried EVERYTHING. I found this product, read the reviews, and hit the 'buy now' button with all of my hope riding on Prime shipping and a spray bottle. Promising review: "A true sensory experience while completing a mundane, laborious chore! The scent from this cleaner was pleasing versus the harsh chemical smell from the other brands out there. Yet, it was able to remove old stains that had been in the carpet fiber for well over seven years. This surprised me as I had just accepted that those stains were there to stay. Plus, it's concentrated so I just used over a bit of the recommended amount. Now the carpet looks great with no grainy feel to it when you walk on it with bare feet; although I did vacuum afterwards. Just as important, the carpet does not have the unpleasant odor that has lingered and would rear it's ugly head from time to time! Thanks to Amazon for carrying this and making it easy for me to locate on the site!!!" —Marie J.

I've always done it by hand and it's always caused the big fluffy powder brushes to feel rougher or become matted no matter how hard I try to reshape them. I got this solution and used it with a makeup brush spinner, and I couldn't BELIEVE how amazing my brushes were afterwards! I also have insanely sensitive skin and most any soap I put on a brush will cause me to breakout when I use it later, no matter how well I typically rinse it. But I really think that this cleaner + the brush spinner worked great and I haven't had any sensitive bumps on my skin since using them!" —Chelsea

Promising review: "I purchased this polish so I could clean the antique silver that my grandmother needed polished. Well, color me impressed! I was expecting it to look a little cleaner, but this polish went far beyond that. It removed all the tarnish and dirt that had built up over the last decade. Everything shines beautifully! I was so impressed that I tried it on my jewelry and stainless steel refrigerator. It cleaned and shined quickly." —Amanda Dempsey

Promising review: "I moved into a new apartment in September, and the kitchen was full of grease stains on the floor, floorboards, walls, and cabinets. They must have been there for a long time, since I was never able to get them up. I tried every type of cleaning solution, brush, sponge, wipe, you name it. The second I used this product on the stains they came up immediately. I didn't even have to put any elbow grease into it, I literally just wiped over it a few times and it was gone. I would leave more than 5 stars if I could." —alysonnnnn__

Promising review: "Works well at getting out turmeric stains from my formica countertops and kitchen sink. I have used other degreasers, but this is the best one so far. Also, it doesn't generate fumes that make me cough." —s patel
