46 Really Disgusting (But Somehow Satisfying) Review Pictures And The Products That Lead To Them

They might make you cringe, but hey, the results speak for themselves.

    1. A drain clog remover for any respectable adult who's ever had to witness a plumber pull a humiliating amount of hair out of their backed-up drain and has vowed to never let that happen again. Just stick it down your drain to lift out all that gunk and try not to be too grossed out when you see what's been hiding down there.

Promising review: "When I pulled the orange plastic spiked strip from the package, I was immediately skeptical and felt like all those five-star reviews were from people who exist in an alternate universe. I was tempted to initiate a return on Amazon but decided that I might as well gamble on a piece of $9 plastic before gambling $200 on a plumber. I slipped the plastic strip down my shower drain and literally FIVE SECONDS LATER I was pulling up gobs and gobs and gobs of hair. HOLY COW!!!!!!!! OHMYGOSH. I can't believe I still have any hair left on my head. SO MUCH REPULSIVE GUNK!!!! I saved my prize hairball on the shower floor to show my husband because I knew he would be as skeptical as I was. We both agree it looks like a small raccoon or a large squirrel lying helplessly on my shower floor. It's a grisly, messy, smelly and oh-so-rewarding job." —Chocolate and Chips

    2. An eco-friendly hard-water stain remover that'll give you the crystal-clear shower doors you always wanted but didn't think were actually attainable. Surprise!

Promising review: "We tried everything to get rid of hard water stains and nothing worked. We were getting our house ready to sell and our tub and sink were a mess. We tried this product and it worked immediately, restoring everything to like-new. It was fast and really worked! We even used it to clean our glass stovetop. It was amazing how clean it got things. I have a bad back and have to be careful about scrubbing things and it takes no effort to use. We use it in our new house and love it!" —Bradley

    3. A super popular pet hair remover you can use on furniture, bedding, clothes, or anything where shedding tends to accumulate. Best of all? It's totally reusable and doesn't require any annoying sticky film, making it eco-friendly!

Reviewer photo of a black pillow covered in white dog hair and you can clearly see which side they brushed with the fur remover because all the dog hair is gone in that section

Promising review: "This thing is magical and I wish I had found it sooner. Even the most stubborn of dog hairs that have been seemingly woven into the fabric of your couch are no match for the ChomChom. The satisfying click of the roller will have you ChomChom-ing every surface you possibly can, while your dog looks at you in cold betrayal for removing his precious fur deposits. He plots revenge against this new nemesis, revenge that is doomed to fail from the start, because the ChomChom is far too powerful. Meanwhile, you are transfixed by the serotonin rush filling your brain as your ChomChom fills with more and more hair, leaving a path of de-furred sofa in its wake. The dog barks in disapproval. You smile, finally sitting on fur-free furniture for the first time in a long time. Maybe you’ll even have friends over now." —Will

    4. A pack of foaming garbage disposal cleaner that'll replace lingering smells — you know, the ones that always make you think, Wow, should I be cleaning my garbage disposal? — with a bright, lemony scent. Plus, watching it bubble up is pretty fun!

Promising review: "Glisten is great and easy to use. I don’t like products that are complicated and have numerous steps to them. Glisten is easy, does the job, and smells good. No more smelly drains. Just drop it in the drain with a steady stream of water and the disposal on, and that’s it. A bubbly freshness cleans the disposal...it’s that easy." —Helen Lanning

Promising review: "Performs exactly as describes. Have two kitchen sinks that had odors. Tried in both and both no longer have a smell. I'd highly recommend this product to anyone who wants to clean their kitchen drains." —DPK

    5. An ingrown toenail treatment, which acts like a mini brace for your nail! It helps correct the nail's curve by eliminating pressure from the sides, and as you can see from the photos, the results are truly remarkable.

A customer review photo showing their toe before, during, and after using the treatment

Promising review: "I have been struggling with a big toe ingrown toenail for over 10 years. Every once in a while I have to cut my nail out of the skin — it hurts. This product is so simple to use and it makes sense — a rigid plastic “brace” that goes across your nail to help it grow in a flatter fashion than digging into your skin. And...IT WORKS!!! Seriously wanted to go get surgery on this toe but using this product saved me from that. My nail is flatter and growing normally. I have told all my friends about this. Oh ya also — it’s less conspicuous than a big brace or something that needs to be cranked. It’s just a piece of rigid plastic glued to the sides of your nail to gently bring it to normal position. If you are having issues try this!" —emcincygirl

    6. A bottle of cat and dog ear cleaner, because those nooks and crannies are prime breeding grounds for icky gunk. Apply the solution to your pet's ear canal, then gently rub it into the base and wipe away all the debris it'll surely uncover.

Promising review: "I bought this for my cat because he had ear mites when I got him and when they cleared up, his ears were left with a bunch of nasty wax and I couldn't get all of it out in fear of pushing it farther down. This stuff brought EVERYTHING up! I LOVE it and HIGHLY recommend for anyone with an animal with dirty ears! My cat has stopped scratching at his ears finally because they are nice and clean!" —Tricia S.

    Britt Ross / BuzzFeed

Upon moving to a new house, I discovered I'd inherited some not-so-well-maintained white bathroom tile, with white grout to match. At least, the grout had been white at one point. Woof. After having heard nothing but raves about The Pink Stuff, I decided to see how well it would work on what has probably been my most trying cleaning task to date. Well, I'm happy to report that after a bit of light scrubbing, The Pink Stuff was able to lift most of the muck off of the grout, revealing a much lighter surface underneath (GIF for proof!). While I think it might take a few more applications for the grout to *dazzle,* I'm super impressed by the difference I was able to see right away, and with not very much elbow grease to boot. I mean, it is white grout, so if it was able to work wonders on that, I can't wait to see what it does for my crusty pots and pans!

Promising review: "The stuff cleans anything. I had an old outdoor lounge chair that had been sitting outside for years. It had so much buildup on it I was sure I would have to just throw it away. We tried everything, and the Pink Stuff was the only thing that worked. It looks brand new! I also use this on my oven and my shower. It does take a little elbow grease but the result is always beautiful." —~MJ~

Promising review: "So I had a spot on my dash that I wanted to clean and grabbed this stuff because I figured my car could use some TLC over the years. Well, I went to clean one small part and ended up almost detailing the entire inside of both front and back driver and passenger side doors. It worked so well, so fast, and smelled so good that I couldn't stop. My car looks brand-new!" —Michael

For best results, absorb the excess liquid, then saturate the spot with the stain remover. Let it sit for one to five minutes, and then blot it out. This product can also be used on hard surfaces to remove latex paint and grease.

Promising review: "When you have anything white in your house and you have a love for red wine THIS PRODUCT IS A MUST! We had a dinner party of about 15 people in our house so I bought five bottles just in case. Someone spilled red wine on our brand-new white couch. I was so mad, but I used this stuff and it was GONE. It didn't just take most of the red wine out — the red wine was GONE! No trace of it at all! I will buy more!" —Amazon Customer

    11. A bottle of Tend Skin solution, which, if you've ever experienced redness and bumps after shaving, should go in your cart ASAP. Apply it post-shaving and feel a sense of relief when your pits stay rash-free.

Promising review: "Sooo I pluck my armpit hairs. When I’m done I usually have red bumps all over and it takes an entire day for them to go away. Today I had just gotten done plucking and oh my god the red bumps disappeared right before my eyes. I wasn’t expecting this stuff to work THAT fast. I rubbed this solution on my armpit with a cotton pad and within minutes they were just gone. As for sensitive skin, I have eczema and this stuff didn’t bother me. But it did have a very strong alcohol smell." —Rachel H.

Get it from Amazon for $17.99+ (available in two sizes).

    12. A super popular TubShroom (70,000+ 5-star ratings!) that proactively catches any hair that makes its way into your drain so you're not waiting an hour for the water to go down. Plus, you'll save money on plumber visits!

Promising review: "I hardly ever write reviews but this thing is so amazing I had to share. With every shower I take, I shed a TON of hair and (as you can see from the picture) stick it to the wall so that no hair goes down my drain. I thought this method was working out well but my drain was continuing to stop up. I figured it must be my sister's fault since I was so good about not letting any hairs go down the drain, but I went ahead ordered the TubShroom after seeing advertisements on Facebook. I got this thing and after only two showers, it collected a crap ton of my hair that I didn't catch. It really is so easy to install and wipe away the hair, exactly like the videos. Awesome invention and I'm super happy with this purchase!" —Megan K.

Promising review: "Holy cow these suckers work! I'm so grossed out by the result, but at the same time, I have a sick sense of satisfaction. I used these in my house plants that are breeding fungus gnats like crazy. I used them in conjunction with beneficial nematodes, and they definitely cut down on the number of gnats in our house. I'm buying another package of sticky traps as soon as I finish this review!" —Megan

Promising review: "Despite being diligent and rinsing my bottles out, they do tend to accumulate funky color, slight odor, etc. and generally just get gunkier over time. I heated up a pot of water, filled a few bottles, dropped one of these into each, and 15 minutes later most were sparkling clean, good as new. A few of the worst needed to be left a few hours/overnight, but in every case these pills worked magic. I also tried one just for kicks on my stainless steel lined coffee pot, over five years of daily use with filtered water, monthly descaling process, etc. but still showing browning inside, and one pill cleared all the stains away." —Amazon Customer

Promising review: "This stuff is AMAZING. We have a 1.5-year-old puppy and have make several futile attempts to clean up carpet stains from her potty training days. Another dog owner clued us into this, and we cannot believe we didn't buy it sooner. Seriously, the same night this arrived, I spilled an entire bottle of beer on white carpet (oops), grabbed the Folex, sprayed a bunch onto the stain, massaged it into the carpet with my finger tips, and blotted with a damp towel. You can't see ANY remnant of a stain. I've also attacked old stains (like one-plus year old) and saw the same results. Seriously, buy this!!!" —AKM

Rocco & Roxie is a family-run small business specializing in all things pets, from treats and supplements to grooming products and toys.

Promising review: “When we moved into our home four years ago, we found several small dog pee stains on the oatmeal colored carpet. I tried everything over the years to get them up. My professional carpet cleaner tried his best as well and between us we managed to lighten them a little, but they were still obvious. I tried the Rocco & Roxie using my normal method of spraying the spot, working it in with my fingers, laying a half inch of white paper towels on top, then putting a glass casserole dish on top of that with a stack of books to weight it down. This is the only product I’ve used that has worked on eliminating those pee spots stains. You could see the pee soaked up in the white paper towels when I would pick them up to change them out. It takes a few change outs but I just keep working on them changing the paper towel stack over and over until the spots were gone. Previously I had tried the same method using the top enzymatic brand you see in the pet stores and several other carpet cleaning products. Nothing has worked like the Rocco & Roxie!" —Laurie B., CA

Get it from Rocco & Roxie on Amazon for $19.97+ (available in two sizes).

Promising review: "A true sensory experience while completing a mundane, laborious chore! The scent from this cleaner was pleasing versus the harsh chemical smell from the other brands out there. Yet, it was able to remove old stains that had been in the carpet fiber for well over seven years. This surprised me as I had just accepted that those stains were there to stay. Plus, it's concentrated so I just used over a bit of the recommended amount. Now the carpet looks great with no grainy feel to it when you walk on it with bare feet; although I did vacuum afterwards. Just as important, the carpet does not have the unpleasant odor that has lingered and would rear its ugly head from time to time! Thanks to Amazon for carrying this and making it easy for me to locate on the site!!!" —Marie J.

Promising review: "This stuff is amazing!! I was skeptical at first because I have these dark stains on my shower floor that I’ve never been able to get out and was thinking something 'natural' wouldn’t be heavy-duty enough for it. I cleaned half the shower at first because I wanted to see how it looked compared to the dirty side and it did an amazing job with a little bit of elbow grease! You can see the difference." —Katherine Cheng

reviewer before photo showing a very dirty shower floor
same reviewer's after photo showing the shower floor looking much cleaner

Promising review: "We cannot BEGIN to tell you what a lifesaver this is! We have two old fiberglass tubs with vinyl shower enclosures that no matter what amount of scrubbing we have done with everything from bleach to cleanser to vinegar and baking soda would NOT come clean. After I took my shower last night, I sprayed down the tub and walls. Within minutes, all the built-up water deposits and dirt and grime began to melt away in front of my eyes. I left it on overnight, and when I got up this morning, it did not look like the same tub and shower. This product is a godsend, especially for old folks like us who have difficulty getting down on our hands and knees and scrubbing anything. More importantly, it performs as advertised. We plan on using it as part of our weekly cleanup routine, in addition to purchasing the Wet and Forget Mold and Mildew Remover for use on the vinyl siding of our house. This is truly an overnight sensation!" —Amazon Customer

reviewer before and after showing a mold covered stone patio next to one that's mold-free after being sprayed with the cleaner
reviewer photo of some outdoor patio tiles showing three that are green and one that isn't, since it was sprayed with the cleaner

Promising review: "I have a brick patio. When I bought this house it was covered, and I mean covered with moss. A good power wash each spring was never enough to stop the moss from returning, and month after month during the summers was a struggle, man vs plant. I did that for two years, cursing and complaining the whole time. This April I did my spring power wash as usual and immediately treated this patio. It is now going into August and I have not had even a wisp of moss this year — I mean nothing! I would recommend this product without any reservations. When you put it on you may think to yourself that it doesn't look like you really did much. It dries quick and looks the same as it did before, but wow does it do exactly what it says it will do." —PM in NH

It works with various wheel finishes including chrome, aluminum, steel, clear coated, PVD, painted, plastic wheel covers, magnesium, and aftermarket wheels.

Promising review: "It will take one look from your friends to say 'Did you buy some new wheels?' This stuff is absolutely amazing. For the full effect, dismount your wheel, spray the back. Go do something for 10 minutes. Wash with water, no scrubbing needed. Turn the rim face up, do it again. Do the rest of your rims, and don't forget the tire protectant when you reinstall them. Promising review: "I have very hard water that leaves hard water buildup and nasty stains. It’s embarrassing to have guests over because the toilets are so gross! I have tried so many products and cleaning solutions — from natural essential oils to harsh chemicals so strong I was lightheaded for the rest of the day. Well, I tried out this pumice stone after reading about it in a BuzzFeed article, and honestly the hype is real! It does take some elbow grease, but the after picture is from only 20 minutes of scrubbing, light enough that I didn’t break a sweat! The stone does get used up, but I think this one should last me a couple years at least. So if you have embarrassing toilets, try this!" —Stephanie Ray

Promising review: "So, we have a toilet that belongs to the cats. We don't use it, we don't look at it, we like to pretend it does not exist. Even with semi-regular flushing, cat waste is pretty nasty stuff that builds up quickly in the bowl. One of these wands cleaned it up in a single session (pictured above)!" —Whitney

While this shampoo is not moisturizing whatsoever, it gets the job done of preventing itchiness and flaking from dandruff. I tried this because many other Black women and WOC said it works on their natural hair. Great addition to your wash and go routine in the winter, plus it smells good!" —MaidenSeptember

Promising review: "It's never easy to face dandruff and other hair and scalp issues. I'm a woman with thin and thinning hair who developed dandruff over the past year, despite using gentle shampoo and good conditioner. This shampoo is amazing. The scent is not only not bad, it's downright pleasant. It has reduced my dandruff by 90%, and I sincerely believe my hair loss is slowing, based on what I lose during each shower. If you're like I was and on the fence about trying a dandruff shampoo for the first time, don't hesitate. Try this. And if you're dissatisfied with your current dandruff shampoo because it smells like armpit tar death, don't hesitate. Try this. Cheers!" —melham

It works amazing on my beauty blender, taking out the highly pigmented cream blush. Best of all it has a delightful clean but not chemical smell." —Katherine Hirsch

Promising review: "When I went on my first solo backpacking trip across Ireland, I only had enough room in my pack for three sets of clothes. Promising review: "Bought these on a whim and was skeptical if they would really help, but man am I glad I did! They made cleaning our glass shower door and fiberglass shower a breeze! Don't really want to admit how long it had been between cleanings, but the shower shined like it never had before (even with using tough elbow grease and a standard bristle brush). No issues with the brushes leaving marks, but definitely want to err on the side of caution on how long you stay in a spot. Used the large flat circular brush for the door and walls, and the round toilet bowl type brush worked great in the corners and on fixtures." —Molly

    Natalie Brown / BuzzFeed

BuzzFeed Shopping editor Natalie Brown is a fan of this: "I'm obsessed! This thing works small miracles: I cleaned about half of my bathroom's grout to its original sparkling-clean cream color in 40 minutes, and it took honestly no effort at all. And — as if easy, sparkling grout wasn't enough! — it busted through some serious soap-scum buildup in my bathtub (thanks, fancy soap and slow-draining tub) in less than a minute.

Honestly, when I first tried the scrubber out, I didn't see too many uses for it other than for grout. But after owning it for a while, I've realized that while I don't need it every single week, it's priceless for the occasions I encounter tough gunk that I'd otherwise only conquer with excessive patience and elbow grease."

    31. Some Affresh washing machine cleaner wipes you should be using on the reg, in case you thought your washer was a place you could skip (spoiler alert: nope!). Washers need some love too, and once you see how much dirt these babies pull up, you'll wonder how "clean" your clothes have actually been...

Promising review: "These wipes are worth the money spent! I have tried other disinfecting wipes, rag/cleaner, etc. in the past. These wipes made the job much easier and faster! It only took one wipe to wipe my front load down. The biggest impact was cleaning the rubber surround! I could not believe how much easier this made the task. Just took minutes! Life-changing product!" —AmazSD

    32. A window blind duster brush, because even though the thought of cleaning each of those slats probably sounds nothing short of taxing, it's gotta happen. Luckily, this handy device seriously cuts down on the amount of time it takes to do what is likely one of the least enjoyable tasks, so you're welcome!

Included are five reusable and washable microfiber cloths, which can also be used for cleaning hard-to-reach areas like air conditioners and car blinds.

Promising review: "I love this product!! It works fantastically! I am a housekeeper for several private homes. My least favorite job: cleaning window blinds! I have used about every method there is, but the job is still very time consuming. The main reason it takes so long is you must clean each and every slat separately to do the job right. Not anymore! With this product you can clean two slats at once, and it cleans them the first swipe! The microfiber is the key to getting all the dust, and the design of the product makes it super easy! PLUS, this tool can be used on different types of blinds because it is flexible! I have used it on wooden shutters, plastic vertical patio door blinds, and horizontal metal 'mini' blinds. Additionally, the microfiber 'sleeve' that fits on the tool is washable, and it comes with five of them, so it's a real value — being reusable, and with so many to use, it should last a long time before they all completely wear out! This product deserves 10 stars!" —Sandy D

Just slip them on, leave for up to 90 minutes, then peel and wash your feet off! Keep in mind that your feet could very well shed dead skin for days to come, but some reviewers said that wearing socks did a good job of keeping it from getting everywhere.

Promising review: "This product worked so quickly compared to others I have tried in the past. I was expecting to wait up to a week for results, but it was more like two to three days. The old skin started peeling off and took three to four days of daily showering and moisturizing for it all to be removed, and the result was great. Soft like baby-new skin. I am so glad there are three packets, and I will definitely do this again in a few months. The skin coming off makes a mess, but it’s so fun to watch it all slough off after your shower. I’m very happy with this product and the results." —Julianne M O'Gara

    34. And, a tub of O'Keeffe's Healthy Feet Foot Cream to smooth out even the most cracked skin and caked-on calluses. It delivers essential exfoliation and moisture to severely dry skin, and for best results, slather it on at night and after you shower.

Promising review: "My heels have been in awful shape for years and I felt like I had tried everything but low and behold O’Keeffe’s did the trick. I apply the cream two times a day: after I shower and before bed and it’s made such a difference. My feet still need a little work but I see a huge improvement in just the three weeks I’ve been using the cream. There is a week between each picture." —CV

    35. And! An unassuming foot file with serious smoothing power you'll want if your dry, cracked feet could use some TLC. You'll be shocked by how much dead skin it removes, even after the first use — I mean, the photos say it all.

Promising review: "After comparing foot files and reading the reviews, I decided to order this foot file. Living with chronic pain conditions has made it almost impossible to get out and go to the nail salon on a regular basis. I needed a way that I could 'maintain' my feet in between pedicure appointments, and purchasing this foot file was definitely a great decision. I couldn't believe how well and easily it removed the dead skin from the bottom of my feet. The only other product that I used was a tiny amount of callus remover to help remove the unwanted dry skin. I couldn't believe how well it worked and my feet felt so much better. I would highly recommend using caution when it comes to the amount of skin that you slough off. Otherwise, you could remove too many layers of skin, leaving your feet sensitive to touch or painful when walking on them. If you are looking for a way to maintain your feet on your own then look no further! The price is competitive, the quality is top-notch, and it couldn't be any easier to use." —Amy

Promising review: "This stuff is really amazing. I was skeptical when I bought it — the house we were renting had a sink that was mounted under the counter and the sealant was black. 🤢 I had tried kitchen spray with bleach and a toothbrush but that did nothing. I applied this gel before bed one night and in the morning that caulk was gleaming white! I’ve used it with success in other places as well. It’s a great tool to have under the sink!" —L. Koch

Promising review: "I bought the smallest bottle because I wasn't sure how good of a stain remover this product was, but I have to say that this little bottle of stain remover works like magic. I used it to take old dog urine stains off my white carpet, and it worked! What a surprise. I also took some other old, dark stains off the carpet with it that didn't come off with other carpet cleaners. It works better than any of the other carpet cleaners that I have used, and now I will be trying it on some other items that are stained. I can't say enough good things about this product." —Diane Merritts

Promising review: "I've tried Shout wipes, stain removal pens, and all the other tricks in the book. This removes organic stains from sweat better than anything I've tried thus far. I followed the directions, got the fabric wet, sprayed it on, and left it to chill for an hour. When I came back, I was dumbfounded. I can't believe I didn't have this sooner, I'm about to buy a gallon!" —Mark Bogumil

Promising review: "With a little one, a dog, and an outdoor-loving family, I am constantly doing laundry. I have tried other natural stain removers and none really do the job. They get out some stains, or need to be washed within 15 minutes and retreated, which isn't always a reality in our home. This, however, is amazing! I haven't met a stain this can't handle! It has to soak for a long time, which makes laundry easy and allows for flexibility. Also, it has no odor, no residue, no damage to clothes. It is amazingly easy to use and does an amazing job. I have gifted this to a few friends with babies just because it really is that good!" —Trixie L

Promising review: "Love these. As I got older I noticed the thick peach fuzz. I hated it! I hesitated to use this product, worried that the hair would come in coarse, but I was wrong. My aesthetician assured me that fine hair like peach fuzz would only grow back as fine hair...the very same. I did my research over the internet and the info was the same. Now I can say that I happily use it and have a smooth, peach-fuzz free face. And the best news is that the hair takes many, many weeks to grow back." —Martine Payne

These cleaning cups fixed both of my issues, and I especially liked that it was really quick and easy to use… I put the cleaning pod in and ran one cycle, then took the pod out and ran a rinse cycle to clean out any leftover grinds. FAST, EASY, and GREAT results… VERY HAPPY!!" —Corey West

    43. A bottle of Ecotools Makeup Brush Cleaner, because let's be honest — your blending sponges are probably coated in foundation, bronzer, and who knows what else. With this, you can extend the life of your applicators (save that money!) and avoid touching your face with something filthy.

Promising review: "This cleanser is great! It fully removes all makeup from the brushes without leaving them feeling beat up (I'm not the most gentle when it comes to cleaning brushes). I use a thick foundation that soaks heavily into the bristles, but this removed it all. At first, I thought it was a bit thin, but after using it, a little bit goes a long way. It has a nice lather, but very nicely and easily rinses out. I use this with the 'MelodySusie Big Size Brush Cleaner' scrubby from Amazon. I was able to clean my brushes much faster than normal, and I feel more confident that I got all the makeup off the bristles. This has a very slight (not strong at all) scent of grapefruit. It's refreshing without me having to worry about it irritating my face or leaving a fragrance left on my brushes." —Kryssy

Promising review: "I have never written a product review before but oh my god I need everyone to know this tongue scraper is LIFE-CHANGING! The past few months I’ve noticed a weird white/grayish look to my tongue. I didn’t think anything of it. I’ve also recently had bad breath which I’ve tried everything to control. I saw Dr. Tung's tongue cleaner on a BuzzFeed article and figured why not give it a try. Literally the first time I used it, I could see such a major difference. Not to be too gross but like holy hell I could visibly witness all the gunk being removed from my tongue. It was so disgusting but also intriguing. I couldn’t look away. The next morning I could tell that it worked. I had ZERO bad breathe and my mouth wasn’t so dry. This product truly is life changing. And so easy to use. You just hold the cleaner with either one hand or both and just gently scrape your tongue. It’s painless and super user friendly. Definitely one of if not the next product I’ve ever purchased. 10/10 recommend." —Katelyn Foehner
