17. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1938)

Snow White is at the end of the list because, honestly, she's one of the more bland Disney princesses. Her prince has, like, zero personality and her stepmom wants her heart in a box because she's prettier. Brutal! I'm glad I've seen this piece of Disney history, but I wouldn't watch it again.

16. Cinderella (1950)

Remember when Cinderella's stepsisters ripped her dress? Also brutal! The villains weren't vile, they were just cruel. They had no motive other than to make Cinderella's life terrible. I'm really glad Cinderella got her happy ending, but the ride to the end of the movie is rough. For a classic Disney princess film, it's not bad, but it did give me the unrealistic expectation that woodland creatures would help me around the house.

15. Beauty and the Beast (2017)

While this version of the movie was definitely a spectacle, I don't think it could live up to its animated counterpart. I thought the enchanted objects looked weird and weren't as aesthetically pleasing as the hand-drawn ones. Belle's iconic dress also lost some of its luster when it came to the live-action version. If it was between this one and the animated one, I'd go with the original every time.

14. Cinderella (2015)

While I did like the live-action version of this movie better than the original, it doesn't build a whole lot on the animated version's story. I enjoyed the addition of Hayley Atwell as Cinderella's mom, and I really liked the costumes, so it climbs a little higher than the 1950 original on this list.

13. Aladdin (1992)

Aladdin isn't my favorite. He pretends to be something he's not, and it really stresses me out because I'm anxious the whole movie that he's going to get caught. Plus, I feel like any villain who has mind-controlling abilities is way too overpowered for me. It's a cop-out power for sure. Also, there is a severe lack of seatbelts on the magic carpet in "A Whole New World." Aladdin and Jasmine's complete disregard for their own safety totally took me out of the movie. I'm sorry.

12. Frozen II (2019)

It's no secret that Frozen II is visually stunning. The plot is a departure from the normal princess story structure, and I really love Nokk, the water horse. However, IDK, it doesn't match the same kind of magic as the first Frozen movie for me. I will tell you, though, "Into the Unknown" really gets stuck in your head.

11. The Little Mermaid (1989)

This loses a lot of points from me because I hate Prince Eric. He only knew Ariel from her voice and he married her when she was 16. Yikes. However, I had to rank it this high because every single song in this movie is the best. It has one of the most sing-a-long-able soundtracks in Disney history.

10. Aladdin (2019)

Yeah, I ranked this Aladdin higher than the OG, but listen...Jasmine gets the respect she deserves in this version, the dance numbers are awesome, and, hey, while nobody can live up to Robin Williams' Genie, I think Will Smith does a fine job.

9. Sleeping Beauty (1959)

It frustrates me to absolutely no end that they just had to keep her hidden for ONE. MORE. DAY. But no, the fairies decided it was a good idea to let Aurora walk in the woods on her own and then have a magic fight. What a terrible mistake. The art style in this movie is one of my faves, and Maleficent is the most badass villain out there. Not to mention, Prince Phillip really goes through a lot to save the whole kingdom. It's commendable.

8. Pocahontas (1995)

Is Pocahontas a princess? No. Is she a Disney princess? I feel like she is, so I'm including her movie. She always says what she thinks, she has an awesome raccoon companion, and she really chooses her own path. Plus, the ending is so good! It ties up the story and says so much about the main characters that I feel like anytime I watch it, there's always someone cutting onions nearby.

7. Tangled (2012)

Rapunzel and Flynn really make a good dynamic duo. The lantern scene is absolutely stunning, Pascal and Maximus are great additions to the team, and Mother Gothel was the perfect blend of manipulative and self-absorbed to make her a superb villain. I'd be lying if I said I didn't buy a cast-iron skillet after watching this movie.

6. Beauty and the Beast (1991)

Just like The Little Mermaid, every song in Beauty and the Beast is a good song. Although he's, you know, an animal, the beast really attempts to change and better himself, and Belle becomes both more understanding and more assertive in the process. I thought there was great character development, a superb soundtrack, and the joke "If it ain't Baroque, don't fix it" gets a laugh out of me every time.

5. Brave (2012)

Have you ever watched Brave with your mom? I have, and I don't think we've ever felt closer than walking out of that movie together. A lot of princess movies kill off a parent or two, and it's really nice to see Merida not only bond with her mother, but to also see them develop a mutual respect and understanding for each other by the end.

4. Frozen (2013)

Frozen was pretty much the first princess movie where the plot twist made you audibly gasp. The love interest is just a genuine everyday dude, which is a nice departure from a prince, or a duke, or any title of high rank or royal descent. It has a good story, a princess who saves herself, and a talking snowman. I would also talk about the soundtrack, but I don't think I have to, considering "Let It Go" has been stuck in everyone's head since 2013.

3. Mulan (1998)

Disney

Mulan is so strong. She faces adversity head-on, she's a quick thinker, and she just doesn't give up. She's not motivated by her love for some hunk, she's motivated by honor, duty, and respect. Mushu and Cri-Kee provide the perfect amount of comic relief, Shan-Yu is a perfectly dastardly villain, and Shang is a great prince-like character (even though his "You fight good" line to Mulan is so awkward to me every time I hear it).

2. Moana (2016)

Disney

I love Moana. She's optimistic, persistent, and has a good moral compass. Maui plays well against Moana, the film is stunning, and can you really beat songs written by Lin-Manuel Miranda? No. No, you can't. The only downfall is how Pua doesn't get enough screen time.

1. The Princess and the Frog (2008)

I really don't care what you have to say, because The Princess and the Frog is the greatest princess movie of all time. Prince Naveen goes from being a self-centered jerk to helping Tiana realize her dream. Tiana never gives up, and she finally gets what she's after. Dr. Facilier is a credible villain who's the right amount of spooky and serious. And, if you don't tear up at Ray's funeral, you have absolutely no heart. 1,000/10.
