I Just Realized Something Gross About Captain America After "Endgame"

If you've seen the movie, please help me here.

Hi. This post is gonna have MAJOR Avengers: Endgame spoilers. Like, major major.

So seriously, if you haven't seen the movie, stop reading right now!

Virgin Records

OKAY, so...Endgame was a pretty big movie for Captain America, especially because he finally got the ending he deserved.

Plus, we got all kinds of fan-servicey easter eggs from the comics, and we definitively determined that he does indeed have America's Ass.

Steve ended up going back in time and finally reuniting with the love of his life, Peggy Carter. It's not stated outright, but based on the wedding ring, we're to assume that they got married and lived a happy life together.

HERE'S THE FRICKIN' PROBLEM THOUGH: In Captain America: Civil War, Steve briefly teams up with Sharon Carter, Peggy's great-niece.

And they KISS, which means that if Steve and Peggy did get married, Steve "I Can Do This All Day" Rogers was KISSING HIS OWN GREAT-NIECE.

Now, the time travel rules in Endgame are a little ~weird~, and changing the past doesn't change the future* but rather creates a new timeline, as the Ancient One explains. So you could argue that Steve and Sharon weren't technically related when they kissed, because Steve hadn't gone back to the past yet.

*I have some issues with this, because Thanos/Nebula clearly extracted themselves from the past and came to the future, and then died without a return trip. Oh, and Loki escaped in the past as well, so clearly new timelines have been created. I wonder how pissed the Ancient One was when Steve showed up? In bungling around in the past, how many timelines did the Avengers create in which the future is actually WORSE than the Snap?

But even then, the Cap we know and love still made out with Sharon, then went back in time and married her great-aunt. So either way, he lived 80-ish years knowing that he kissed his own niece.

This really highlights what Hayley Atwell — Peggy Carter herself — said about the infamous Steve/Sharon kiss.

Jeff Spicer

"Well, first of all she'd be turning over in her grave," Atwell told IGN back in 2016. "She'd be like 'no.' And she'd inject herself with the blue serum and become a super villain. She'd break out of her coffin and ground [Sharon]. She'd ground her. Then she'd kick Steve's ass as well. I just feel that, you know — I wouldn't want to date my great aunt's guy. It just feels like it crosses an incestuous boundary. And Peggy just died. That's even more disrespectful, right? It's like, 'Don't touch that.' You can't tap that!"

Steve and Daenerys should really have a chat. That's all I'm saying.

What do you think? Is this gross or am I overreacting? Let me know in the comments!
