22 Characters Who Need To Be Added To The New "Smash Bros"

Fulfill our dreams, Nintendo.

Posted on

We asked members of the BuzzFeed Community which characters they're voting to add to Smash for Wii U and 3DS. Here are the best of their responses.

Characters that were prominently featured in previous Smash games as playable characters (like Roy, Ice Climbers, and Wolf) or as Assist Trophies (Waluigi, Isaac, etc) were not included. But they are rad and very much missed.

2. Simon Belmont from Castlevania

Konami / Via giphy.com

A Castlevania rep would round out all the classic third-party characters in Smash. In addition to his whip, Belmont has a wide variety of secondary weapons, like crosses, throwing knives and axes.

3. Ryu from Street Fighter

Capcom / Via iplaywinner.com

Ryu is the undisputed classic king of the fighting game genre and a pioneer in crossovers with companies like Marvel, Namco, and Tatsunoko. Can't you just see him yelling SHORYUKEN and Dragon Punching his way to the edge of Final Destination?

4. Impa from The Legend of Zelda

Nintendo / Via zelda.wikia.com

Impa is Zelda's homegirl and a powerful ninja She would add diversity to Smash and could be designed as a bulkier, more powerful Sheik.

5. Banjo and Kazooie from Banjo-Kazooie

Nintendo / Via mynintendonews.com

The rights to these two currently belongs to Microsoft, but company representatives said on Twitter there would be no issue having the two of them in Smash. They'd be like the Duck Hunt dog and bird, but with more physical attacks and the ability to have Kazooie take lead.

6. Birdo from Super Mario

Nintendo / Via giantbomb.com

"Birdo from Super Mario 2 was also originally listed as trans in the early versions of the manual (well, inferred anyway- a boy who wanted to be/identified as a girl) . That would be an awesome selection."

7. Bomberman from Bomberman

Hudson Soft / Via pocketgamer.co.uk

Hudson Soft's Bomberman is another third-party character who would fit right in the Smash Bros universe. I mean, yeah, he would mostly just use bombs for every move, but he would use them adorably.

8. Crono from Chrono Trigger

Square Enix / Via pixshark.com

"Crono from Chrono Trigger! He fits right in with the sword fighting characters, and the game he comes from is one of the best RPGs ever."

9. Geno from Super Mario RPG

Square Enix / Via nintendo.wikia.com

Smash battles are often theorized to be an imaginative child playing with his toys, and Geno is a reanimated superheroic doll who casts magic and has guns for arms. Seems like pretty much a perfect match.

10. Kaptain K. Rool from Donkey Kong Country

Nintendo / Via donkeykong.wikia.com

Smash 3DS already prominently features K. Rool's minions, the Kremlins, in Smash Run, so it's a no-brainer that the mighty Kaptain should join the roster. He'd be a mid-range Bowser, who would shoot cannonballs and use his big ol' jumps to get around.

11. Sub-Zero from Mortal Kombat

NetherRealm Studios / Via youtube.com

Mortal Kombat is another big dog in the world of fighting games. Though the franchise is known for its violent Fatalities, Nintendo could definitely make Sub-Zero's ice themed moveset kid-friendly and fun in a Smash environment.

12. Hawlucha from Pokémon X and Y

Nintendo / Via students.expression.edu

"Hawlucha serves as a character who would have a unique moveset whilst hitting an oft ignored demographic in video games."

That oft-ignored demographic is luchador birds, obviously.

13. Any of the Battletoads from Battletoads

Rare / Via giphy.com

The Battletoads haven't been in a game for nearly two decades, but they're an iconic retro franchise with lots of flashy animation and characteristics that would suit Smash well. They'd also add a much-needed amphibian to the series!

14. Shaq from Shaq-Fu

Electronic Arts / Via giantbomb.com

I know what you're saying. SHAQ? In Smash? But dude was in Shaq Fu for the SNES! Practically the most high-concept terrible video game of all time! He deserves to be in a good game, doesn't he?

Suggested by Raul Ivan Salazar (Facebook)

15. Ghirahim from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Nintendo / Via zelda.wikia.com

"Fabulously evil" Ghirahim would add a lot to Smash. He is a flashy, devilish swordsman unlike anything the series has ever seen and would add another villain to the cast.

Suggested by Kristen Goodin and Joseph Bills (Facebook)

16. Ai-Ai from Super Monkey Ball

Sega / Via oxcgn.com

DK and Diddy need some monkey friends! Ai-Ai would be a bouncy, hyperactive character who attacks enemies in a cute li'l ball of destruction.

17. Phoenix Wright from Ace Attorney

Capcom / Via fightersgeneration.com

Phoenix Wright is an unlikely choice but he was already featured in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, spilling paperwork and attacking with massive "OBJECTION!" voice bubbles. Phoenix would fit even better in Smash and would add some needed gravitas to the franchise.

19. Midna and Wolf Link from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Nintendo / Via zelda.wikia.com

Midna and Wolf would be another great partner character. Wolf Link would be fierce and feral and Midna's shadow powers would animate beautifully on the Wii U and 3DS.

20. Maxwell from Scribblenauts

5th Cell / Via pt-br.scribblenauts.wikia.com

Scribblenauts features a character who has the ability to transform anything he draws into reality. It would be difficult to fully incorporate the creativity of the character with a Smash moveset, but if Nintendo can make Mr. Game and Watch work, they can make Maxwell work.

Submitted by Adrian Castillo (Facebook)

21. Dr. Wily from the Mega Man series.

Capcom / Via gtofficial.tumblr.com

Dr. Wily would add another villain to the mix and add a nice complement to Mega Man's projectile-based arsenal by sending out robot minions to do his work from the comfort of his floating car.

22. Reckless Wii Safety Man from every Wii game

Nintendo / Via cheezburger.com

This was literally the top-voted suggestion on the original post. The Reckless Wii Safety man has been in in the opening of pretty much every Wii game, so there's that.
